The third chapter
فِيInبَقِيَّةِthe remainderلَطَائِفِof the subtletiesهَذَاof thisالْبَابِchapter
In the remainder of the subtleties of this chapter
اسْتِنْبَاطُDerivationالْأَحْكَامِof the rulingsوَأَقْسَامُهُand its divisionsالْعَشَرَةُten
Derivation of rulings and its ten divisions
وَمِمَّاAnd from whatيَبْقَىremainsمِنْofلَطَائِفِsubtletiesهَذَاthisالْبَابِchapter
And from what remains of the subtleties of this chapter
وَعُلُومِهِand its sciencesاسْتِنْبَاطُis the derivationالْأَحْكَامِof legal rulingsالشَّرْعِيَّةِshariaمِنَfromالْآيَاتِthe versesالْقُرْآنِيَّةِQuranic
and its sciences is the derivation of legal rulings from the Quranic verses
وَهُوَand it isمَوْضِعٌa placeوَاسِعُvastالْأَطْرَافِin aspects
and it is a vast field in its aspects
وَلِلْعَقْلِand for the intellectمَجَالٌis a fieldفَسِيحٌspaciousفِيinالِاطِّلَاعِdiscoveringعَلَىtheفَحَاوَىimplicationsالْآيَاتِof the verses
and the intellect has a spacious field in discovering the implications of the verses
وَإِيمَاءِاتِهَاand its allusionsوَاقْتِضَائِاتِهَاand its requirementsوَالِاخْتِلَافِand the disagreementفِيهَاin it
and its allusions, its requirements, and the disagreement concerning it
وَقَدْAnd indeedأَلْقَىwas castفِيintoرَوْعِيmy heartحَصْرُrestrictingأَنْوَاعِthe typesهَذِهِof theseالِاسْتِنْبَاطَاتِderivations
And it was cast into my heart to restrict the types of these derivations
فِيintoعَشَرَةِtenأَقْسَامٍcategoriesوَالتَّرْتِيبِand the arrangementفِيمَاamongبَيْنَهَاthem
into ten categories and the arrangement among them
وَأَرَىand I seeأَنَّهَاthat theyمِيزَانٌare a scaleعَادِلٌjustلِاخْتِبَارِfor testingكَثِيرٍmanyمِنَofالْأَحْكَامِthe rulingsالْمُسْتَنْبَطَةِderived
and I see that they are a just scale for testing many of the derived rulings
وَوَزْنِهَاand weighing themوَزْنًاwith a weighingصَحِيحًاcorrect
and weighing them correctly
التَّوجِيهُAl-Tawjih (Orientation)
Al-Tawjih (Orientation)
فَمِنْSo fromجُمْلَةِthe totalityهَذِهِof theseالْأَقْسَامِcategoriesالْعَشَرَةِtenالتَّوْجِيهُis Al-Tawjih
So from the totality of these ten categories is Al-Tawjih
وَهُوَand it isفَنٌّan artكَثِيرُhaving manyالشُّعَبِbranchesوَالْأَطْرَافِand aspects
and it is an art with many branches and aspects
وَيُعَالِجُهُand it is handledالشُّرَّاحُby the commentatorsفِيinشَرْحِexplainingالْمُتُونِthe texts
and it is handled by the commentators in explaining the texts
وَيُخْتَبَرُand is testedبِهِby itذَكَاؤُهُمْtheir intelligenceوَيَتَوَضَّحُand becomes clearبِهِthrough itتَبَايُنُthe varianceمَرَاتِبِهِمْof their ranksوَتَفَاوُتُand the disparityدَرَجَاتِهِمْof their degrees
and their intelligence is tested by it, and through it the variance of their ranks and the disparity of their degrees becomes clear
كَلَامُThe speechالصَّحَابَةِof the CompanionsفِيregardingالتَّوْجِيهِAl-Tawjih
The speech of the Companions regarding Al-Tawjih
وَقَدْAnd indeedتَحَدَّثَspokeالصَّحَابَةُthe Companionsرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedاللَّهُwith themعَنْهُمْandبِالرَّغْمِdespiteمِنْthatأَنَّthe fact that
And indeed the Companions - may Allah be pleased with them - spoke despite the fact that
