تَصَدَّقَIt confirmsعَلَىuponسَيِّدِنَاour masterمُحَمَّدٍMuhammad
It confirms our master Muhammad
صَلَّىmay Allah's peaceاللَّهُand blessings beعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him peace
may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him
لَاnotعَلَىuponالصُّورَةِthe formالرُّوحِيَّةِspiritualلِعِيسَىof Jesus
not upon the spiritual form of Jesus
عَلَيْهِupon himالسَّلَامُbe peaceكَمَاasيَدَّعُونَthey claim
peace be upon him, as they claim
إِذْsinceأَنَّهُthat heقَدْindeedصَرَّحَstated clearlyفِيinالْإِنْجِيلِthe Gospelبِأَنَّthat
since he stated clearly in the Gospel that
فَارِقْلِيطَthe Paracleteيَمْكُثُshall abideفِيكُمْamong youمُدَّةًfor a longطَوِيلَةًperiod
the Paraclete shall abide among you for a long period
وَيُعَلِّمُكُمْand he will teach youوَيُزَكِّيand purifyالنُّفُوسَthe souls
and he will teach you and purify the souls
وَلَمْand has notيَظْهَرْappearedذَلِكَthatبَعْدَafterعِيسَىJesus
And that did not appear after Jesus
عَلَيْهِupon himالسَّلَامُbe peaceإِلَّاexceptمِنْfromنَبِيِّنَاour prophetمُحَمَّدٍMuhammad
peace be upon him, except from our prophet Muhammad
صَلَّىmay Allah's peaceاللَّهُand blessings beعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him peace
may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him
وَأَمَّاAnd as forذِكْرُthe mentionعِيسَىof Jesusوَتَسْمِيَتُهُand naming him
And as for the mention of Jesus and naming him
فَالْغَرَضُthe purposeمِنْهُtherefromالتَّصْدِيقُis to confirmبِنُبُوَّتِهِhis prophethood
the purpose thereof is to confirm his prophethood
لَاnotأَنْthatيُتَّخَذَhe be takenرَبًّاas a lord
not that he be taken as a lord
أَوْorيُعْتَقَدَit be believedبِأَنَّهُthat he isابْنُthe sonاللَّهِof God
or it be believed that he is the son of God
سُبْحَانَExalted isرَبِّthe Lordالسَّمَاوَاتِof the heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earth
Exalted is the Lord of the heavens and the earth
رَبِّthe Lordالْعَرْشِof the Throneعَمَّاabove whatيَصِفُونَthey describe
the Lord of the Throne, above what they describe
الْجَدَلُThe argumentالْقُرْآنِيُّQuranicمَعَwithالْمُنَافِقِينَthe hypocrites
The Quranic Argument with the Hypocrites
الْمُنَافِقُونَThe hypocritesصِنْفَانِare two categories
The hypocrites are two categories
كَانَWereالْمُنَافِقُونَthe hypocritesصِنْفَيْنِtwo categories
The hypocrites were of two categories
فَكَانَتْfor a groupطَائِفَةٌof themمِنْهُمْused toتَشْهَدُtestifyبِلِسَانِهَاwith their tongues
for a group of them would testify with their tongues
بِلَاthere is noإِلَهَdeityإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllah
There is no deity except Allah
مُحَمَّدٌMuhammadرَسُولُis the messengerاللَّهِof Allah
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah
وَلَكِنَّbutقُلُوبَهَاtheir heartsكَانَتْwereمُطْمَئِنَّةًcontentإِلَىwithالْكُفْرِdisbeliefوَالْجُحُودِand denial
but their hearts were content with disbelief and denial
وَكَانَتْand they wouldتَتَظَاهَرُfeignبِإِسْلَامِهَاtheir Islamلِلْمَصَالِحِfor the sake of interests
and they would feign their Islam for the sake of worldly interests
وَهَؤُلَاءِand theseهُمُareالَّذِينَthoseقِيلَabout whom it was saidفِيهِمْin them
and these are the ones about whom it was said
إِنَّIndeedالْمُنَافِقِينَthe hypocritesفِيwill be inالدَّرْكِthe lowest depthsالْأَسْفَلِof the FireمِنَfromالنَّارِFire
Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire
مَظَاهِرُManifestationsالنِّفَاقِof hypocrisyالْعَمَلِيِّpractical
Manifestations of Practical Hypocrisy
وَكَانَتْAndالطَّائِفَةُthe groupالْأُخْرَىotherمِمَّنْof those whoدَخَلُواenteredفِيintoالْإِسْلَامِIslam
And the other group consisted of those who entered into Islam
مَعَwithضَعْفٍweaknessفِيهِin itوَقِلَّةِand lackإِيمَانٍof faithبِهِin it
with weakness in it and a lack of faith in it
فَهُمْfor theyمَثَلًاfor exampleيَجْرُونَfollowعَلَىthe customsعَادَاتِofقَوْمِهِمْtheir people
for they - for example - follow the customs of their people
وَيَدُورُونَand revolveمَعَwithمَصْلَحَتِهِمْtheir interest
and revolve around their own interests
فَإِنْso ifأَسْلَمَaccepted Islamقَوْمُهُمْtheir peopleأَسْلَمُواthey accepted Islam
so if their people accepted Islam, they accepted Islam
وَإِنْand ifكَفَرَthey disbelieved
and if they disbelieved
