إِنَّIndeedجَوَابَthe response ofالشَّرْطِthe conditionمَحْذُوفٌ،is omitted,
Indeed, the response of the condition is omitted,
إِلَّاexceptأَنَّهُمْthat theyنَقَلُواtransferredهَذَاthisالتَّرْكِيبَstructureلِلْعِبَارَةِfor the expressionإِلَىtoمَعْنَىthe meaning ofالتَّعَجُّبِwonder,
except that they transferred this structure of the expression to the meaning of wonder,
فَلَاso there isحَاجَةَno needإِذَنْthenفِيinمِثْلِsuchذَلِكَthatإِلَىforالْبَحْثِsearchingوَالتَّفْتِيشِand investigatingعَنِforالْمَحْذُوفِ.the omitted part.
so there is no need then in such a case to search and investigate the omitted part.

أَمَّاAs forالْإِبْدَالُsubstitution,فَإِنَّهُit isتَصَرُّفٌa usageكَثِيرُof numerousالشُّعَبِbranchesوَالْفُنُونِ:and arts:
As for substitution, it is a usage of numerous branches and arts:
1 - Sometimes they mention a verb in place of a verb for various purposes,
لَيْسَit is notاسْتِيعَابُهَاcomprehending themوَاسْتِقْصَاءُand thoroughlyالْبَيَانِexplainingفِيهَاthemمِنْfromوَظِيفَةِthe function ofهَذَاthisالْكِتَابِ.book.
comprehending them and thoroughly explaining them is not part of the function of this book.
مِثَالٌAn exampleلِإِبْدَالِof substitutingالْفِعْلِ:the verb:
An example of substituting the verb:
قَوْلُهُHis statement-,-تَعَالَىExalted is He-:-{أَهَذَا{Is thisالَّذِيthe one whoيَذْكُرُmentionsآلِهَتَكُمْ}your gods?}
His statement - Exalted is He -: {Is this the one who mentions your gods?}
أَيْ:meaning:يَسُبُّhe insultsآلِهَتَكُمْyour gods.
meaning: he insults your gods.
فَكَانَSo wasأَصْلُthe origin ofالْكَلَامِthe speech"أَهَذَا"Is thisالَّذِيthe one whoيَسُبُّ"insults?"
So the origin of the speech was "Is this the one who insults?"
إِلَّاexceptأَنَّهُمْthat theyكَرِهُواdislikedذِكْرَmentioningالسَّبِّ،the insult,
except that they disliked mentioning the insult,
فَأَبْدَلُوهُso they substituted itبِالذِّكْرِ.with the mention.
so they substituted it with the mention.
وَمِنْAnd fromهَذَاthisالْقَبِيلِcategoryمَاis whatيُسْتَعْمَلُis usedفِيinمَحَاوَرَاتِconversations ofالنَّاسِpeople
And from this category is what is used in the conversations of people
عِنْدَuponمُخَاطَبَتِهِمْtheir addressingلِسَادَتِهِمْtheir mastersأَوْorمُكَرَّمِيهِمْ:their honored ones:
upon addressing their masters or honored ones:
"أُصِيبَ"Was afflictedأَعْدَاءُenemies ofفُلَانٍso-and-soبِمَرَضٍ"لاwith a disease""وَقَدِمَ"And presentedعَبِيدُslaves ofحَضْرَتِكُمْyour presenceإِلَىtoالْمَكَانِthe placeالْفُلَانِيِّ"such-and-such"
"Enemies of so-and-so were afflicted with a disease" and "The slaves of your presence presented themselves to such-and-such place"
أَوْor"اِطَّلَعَ"examinedعَبِيدُslaves ofالْجَنَابِthe thresholdالْعَالِيexaltedعَلَىonهَذِهِthisالْمُقَدِّمَةِ"introduction"
or "The slaves of the exalted threshold examined this introduction"
(وَهَذِهِ(And theseكُلُّهَاall of themتَعْبِيرَاتٌare expressionsفَارِسِيَّةٌ،Persian,
(And these are all Persian expressions,
يَتَقَدَّمُونَthey put forwardبِمِثْلِwith likeهَذِهِtheseالْعِبَارَاتِexpressionsإِلَىtoسَادَتِهِمْtheir mastersوَكُبَرَائِهِمْ)and their elders)
they put forward such expressions to their masters and their elders)
وَيُرِيدُونَAnd they meanأَنْthatقَدْhasمَرِضَfallen illحَضْرَةُthe presence ofفُلَانٍso-and-soوَقَدِمَand has presentedحَضْرَةُthe presence ofأَوْorسَعَادَةُthe excellency ofفُلَانٍ،so-and-so,
And they mean that the presence of so-and-so has fallen ill, and the presence or excellency of so-and-so has presented himself,
وَاطَّلَعَand has examinedمَعَالِيthe eminence ofفُلَانٍ،so-and-so,أَوْorسُمُوُّthe highness ofفُلَانٍ.so-and-so.
and the eminence of so-and-so has examined, or the highness of so-and-so.
