He said: The sale has become binding.

وَانْصَرَفَAnd the Iraqiالْعِرَاقِيُّ.left.

And the Iraqi left.

فَلَمَّاSo whenأَصْبَحَmorning cameلَمْAbdullahيَشْعُرْdid not realizeعَبْدُexceptاللَّهِthat the moneyإِلَّاhad reached him.وَالْمَالُhad reached him.قَدْhad reached him.وَافَاهُ،had reached him.

So when morning came, Abdullah did not realize except that the money had reached him.

فَقَالَSo Abdullahعَبْدُsaid:اللَّهِ:Has the Iraqiبَعَثَsentالْعِرَاقِيُّthe money?بِالْمَالِ؟the money?

So Abdullah said: Has the Iraqi sent the money?

قَالُوا:They said:نَعَمْYesبِعَشَرَةِten thousandآلافِdinarsدِينَارٍand he saidوَقَالَthis is the priceهَذِهِof Umarah.ثَمَنُof Umarah.عُمَارَةَ،of Umarah.

They said: Yes, ten thousand dinars, and he said this is the price of Umarah.

فَرَدَّهَاSo he returned itإِلَيْهِto himوَقَالَ:and said:إِنَّمَاI was onlyكُنْتُjokingأَمْزَحُwith youمَعَكَand I do notوَمَاmake you knowأَعْلَمُكَthat the likes of meأَنَّdoes not sellمِثْلِيthe like of her.لَاthe like of her.يَبِيعُthe like of her.مِثْلَهَا،the like of her.

So he returned it to him and said: I was only joking with you, and I do not make you know that the likes of me does not sell the like of her.

قَالَ:He said:جُعِلْتُMay I be madeفِدَاكَyour ransomإِنَّverilyالْجِدَّearnestnessوَالْهَزْلَand jestingفِيin salesالْبَيْعِare bothسَوَاءٌ!alike!

He said: May I be made your ransom, verily earnestness and jesting in sales are both alike!

قَالَAbdullahلَهُsaid to him:عَبْدُWoe to youاللَّهِ:I do not knowوَيْحَكَa place for a slave girlلَاworth whatأَعْلَمُyou offeredمَوْضِعَand even ifجَارِيَةٍI were selling herتُسَاوِيto anyoneمَاI would have preferred youبَذَلْتَbut I wasوَلَوْonly jokingكُنْتَwith youبَائِعَهَاand I would not sell herمِنْfor the kingdomأَحَدٍof the worldلَآثَرْتُكَdue to her sanctityوَلَكِنِّيto meكُنْتُand her positionأَمَازِحُكَin my heart.وَمَاin my heart.أَبِيعُهَاin my heart.بِمُلْكِin my heart.الدُّنْيَاin my heart.لِحُرْمَتِهَاin my heart.بِيin my heart.وَمَوْقِعِهَاin my heart.مِنْin my heart.قَلْبِي،in my heart.

Abdullah said to him: Woe to you, I do not know a place for a slave girl worth what you offered, and even if I were selling her to anyone I would have preferred you, but I was only joking with you and I would not sell her for the kingdom of the world due to her sanctity to me and her position in my heart.

قَالَThe Iraqiلَهُsaid to him:الْعِرَاقِيُّ:If you wereفَإِنْjokingكُنْتَthen I wasمَازِحاًseriousفَإِنِّيand you did not knowكُنْتُwhat was in your soulجَادّاً،and you have possessedوَمَاthe slave girlاطَّلَعْتَand I have sentعَلَىthe priceمَاand she is not lawfulنَفْسِكَ،for youوَقَدْand there is no escapingمَلَكْتَtaking herالْجَارِيَةَso he prevented himوَبَعَثْتُfrom herبِالثَّمَنِfrom herوَلَيْسَتْfrom herتَحِلُّfrom herلَكَfrom herوَمَاfrom herمِنْfrom herأَخْذِهَاfrom herبُدٌّ،from herفَمَنَعَهُfrom herإِيَّاهَا،from her

The Iraqi said to him: If you were joking then I was serious, and you did not know what was in your soul, and you have possessed the slave girl and I have sent the price and she is not lawful for you and there is no escaping taking her, so he prevented him from her.

فَخَرَجَSo the Iraqiالْعِرَاقِيُّwent outوَهُوَsaying:يَقُولُ:I will make you swearأُسْتَحْلِفُكَin the assemblyفِيof the Commanderمَجْلِسِof the Faithful.أَمِيرِof the Faithful.الْمُؤْمِنِينَ،of the Faithful.

So the Iraqi went out saying: I will make you swear an oath in the assembly of the Commander of the Faithful.

فَلَمَّاSo whenرَأَىAbdullahعَبْدُsawاللَّهِthe seriousnessالْجِدَّfrom himمِنْهُhe said:قَالَ:Evil guest!بِئْسَNo nocturnal visitorالضَّيْفُ!has come to usمَاnor guestطَرَقَنَاhas alightedطَارِقٌwho is a greaterوَلَاcalamityنَزَلَupon usبِنَاthan youضَيْفٌyou make me swearأَعْظَمُso people will sayبَلِيَّةًhe oppressed himعَلَيْنَاhe oppressed himمِنْكَ،he oppressed himتُحَلِّفُنِيhe oppressed himفَيَقُولُhe oppressed himالنَّاسُhe oppressed himاضْطَهَدَهُhe oppressed him

So when Abdullah saw the seriousness from him, he said: Evil guest! No nocturnal visitor has come to us nor guest has alighted who is a greater calamity upon us than you, you make me swear so people will say he oppressed him.
