Three nights after that, the old Major died quietly during sleep, and was buried at the bottom of the garden.

It happened in early March.

And during the three months that followed that, the work was a major secret activity.

Indeed, the speech of the old wise awakened in the most open minds the possibilities of something new and exciting occurring.

The animals did not know when the revolution that the Prophet announced would occur, nor was there anything to make them believe that it would happen during their lifetimes.

But they saw that it was their duty to lay the foundations, that the double task represented in formation and organization is, of course, laid upon the shoulders of the pigs, which are generally regarded as the most intelligent type.

And among the most superior pigs were two: "Snowball" and "Napoleon", both of which were young male pigs that Mr. Jones was raising for the purpose of profit.

Napoleon was huge and imposing, and the only one on the farm who spoke little, and known for that he knew what he wanted.

As for Snowball, he is more lively, with an active mind.
