ذَٰلِكَThatأَنْtoنُثَبِّتَestablishلَهَاfor herمَعْنَىٰmeaning
That is to establish a meaning for her.
ثَانِيًاSecondlyقَوْلَهُمْtheir sayingبِلَاwithoutكَيْفَhow؛;لِأَنَّbecauseنَفْيَdenialالكَيْفِيَّةِthe modalityيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىonوُجُودٍexistence
Secondly, their saying: 'without how'; because the denial of modality indicates the existence.
أَصْلُthe essenceالمَعْنَىthe meaning؛;لِأَنَّbecauseنَفْيَthe denialالكَيْفِيَّةِof modalityعَنْaboutشَيْءٍsomethingلَاnotيُوجَدُexistلَغْوٌnonsenseوَشَكٌّand contradiction
The essence of the meaning; because the denial of modality about something does not exist is nonsense and contradiction.
إِذًاSo؛;فَهَذَاthisالْكَلَامُspeechالْمَشْهُورُfamousعِندَamongالسَّلَفِthe predecessorsيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىonأَنَّهُمْthat theyيُثَبِّتُونَestablishلِهَذِهِfor theseالنُّصُوصِtextsمَعْنَىmeaning
So, this famous speech among the predecessors indicates that they establish a meaning for these texts.
وَلَاand notتَمْثِيلٌrepresentation؛;يَعْنِيmeans::وَمِنْand withoutغَيْرِother thanتَمْثِيلٍrepresentation؛;فَأَهْلُthe peopleالسُّنَّةِof the Sunnahيَتَبَرَّأُونَdisassociateمِنْfromتَمْثِيلٍrepresenting
And there is no representation; that is, without representation; for the people of the Sunnah disassociate from representing God, the Almighty, with His creation; neither in His essence nor in His attributes.
وَالتَّمْثِيلُAnd representation؛;ذِكْرٌthe mentionمُمَاثِلٌof a similarللشَّيْءِto the thing،,وَبَيْنَهُand between itوَبَيْنَand betweenالتَّكْيِيفِthe qualificationعُمُومٌgeneralوَخُصُوصٌand specificمُطْلَقٌabsolute؛;لِأَنَّbecauseكُلَّeveryمُمَثِّلٍrepresentativeمُكَیَّفٌqualifiedوَلَيْسَand notكُلُّallمُكَیَّفٌqualifiedمُمَثَّلًاrepresentative؛;لِأَنَّbecauseالتَّكْيِيفَqualificationذُكِرَthe mentionكَيْفِيَّةًhowغَيْرَnotمَقْرُونَةٌcoupledبِمُمَاثِلٍwith similar؛;مِثْلَlikeأَنْtoتَقُولِينَyou say::لِيَّfor meقَلَمٌpenكَيْفِيَّتُهُits qualityكَذَاlike thisوَكَذَاand alsoوَكَذَاand alsoإِذَاifقُرِنَتْit is coupledبِمُمَاثِلٍwith a similar؛;صَارَit becomesتَمْثِيلًاrepresentation؛;مِثْلَlikeأَنْtoأَقُولُI say::هَذَاthisالْقَلَمُpenمِثْلَlikeهَذَاthisالْقَلَمُpen؛;لِأَنَّنِيbecause Iذَكَرْتُmentionedشَيْئًاsomethingمُمَاثِلًاsimilarلِشَيْءٍto a thing،,وَعَرَفْتُand I recognizedهَذَاthisالْقَلَمُpenبِذِكْرِby mentioningمُمَاثِلِهِits similar
And representation is the mention of something similar to the thing, and between it and qualification there is a general and specific relationship; because every representative is qualified, but not every qualified is represented; because qualification indicates a manner not coupled with similarity; like saying: for me, the quality of a pen is like this. And if it is coupled with a similar, it becomes a representation; like saying: this pen is like this pen; because I mentioned something similar to something, and I recognized this pen by mentioning its similar.
وَأَهْلُAnd the peopleالسُّنَّةِof the Sunnahوَالجَمَاعَةِand the congregationيُثَبِّتُونَestablishلِلَّهِfor Allahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Mighty and Majesticالصِّفَاتِthe attributesبِدُونِwithoutمُمَاثَلَةٍsimilarity؛;يَقُولُونَthey say::إنَّthatاللَّهَAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Mighty and Majesticلَهُfor Himحَيَاةٌlifeوَلَيْسَتْand it is notمِثْلَlikeحَيَاتِنَاour life،,لَهُfor Himعِلْمٌknowledgeوَلَيْسَand is notمِثْلَlikeعِلْمِنَاour knowledge،,لَهُfor Himبَصَرٌsightوَلَيْسَand is notمِثْلَlikeبَصَرِنَاour sight،,لَهُfor Himوَجْهٌfaceوَلَيْسَand is notمِثْلَlikeوُجُوهِنَاour faces،,لَهُfor Himيَدٌhandوَلَيْسَتْand it is notمِثْلَlikeأَيْدِينَاour hands....وَهَكَذَاand soالصِّفَاتُthe attributes
And the people of the Sunnah and the congregation affirm the attributes for Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, without similarity; they say: 'Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has a life that is not like our life; He has knowledge that is not like our knowledge; He has sight that is not like our sight; He has a face that is not like our faces; He has a hand that is not like our hands... and so the attributes.'
جَمِيعُAllيَقُولُونَthey say::إنَّthatاللَّهَAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Mighty and Majesticلَاnotيُمْاثِلُis similar toخَلْقَهُthe creationفِيْمَاin whatوَصَفَdescribesبِهِwithنَفْسَهُHimselfأَبَدًاever،,وَلَهُمْand for themعَلَىonذَٰلِكَthatأَدِلَّةٌevidenceسَمْعِيَّةٌauditoryوَأَدِلَّةٌand evidenceعَقْلِيَّةٌrational
All of them say: 'Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, does not resemble His creation in what He has described Himself with abodes; and for them there are auditory evidence and rational evidence.'
