وَابْتِغَاؤُكُمْAnd your seekingمِّنَfromفَضْلِهِHis grace
And your seeking from His grace
إِنَّIndeedفِيinذَلِكَthatلَآيَاتٍare signsلِقَوْمٍfor a peopleيَسْمَعُونَwho listen
Indeed, that are signs for a people who listen.
وَمِنْAnd amongءَايَاتِهِHis signs
And among His signs
يُرِيكُمُHe shows youالْبَرْقَthe lightningخَوْفًاin fearوَطَمَعًاand hopeوَيُنَزِّلُAnd He sends downمِنَfromالسَّمَاءِthe skyمَاءًwaterفَيُحْيِand revivesبِهِwith itالْأَرْضَthe earthبَعْدَafterمَوْتِهَاits death
He shows you the lightning in fear and hope, and He sends down from the sky water and revives the earth after its death.
إِنَّIndeedفِيinذَلِكَthatلَآيَاتٍare signsلِقَوْمٍfor a peopleيَعْقِلُونَwho reason
Indeed, that are signs for a people who reason.
وَمِنْAnd amongعَايَاتِهِHis signsأَنَّis thatتَقُومَthe heavens andالسَّمَاءُthe heavensوَالْأَرْضُand the earthبِأَمْرِهِby His commandثُمَّThenإِذَاwhenدَعَاكُمْHe calls youدَعْوَةًa callمِّنَfromالْأَرْضِthe earthإِذَاwhenأَنتُمْyouتَخْرُجُونَwill come out
And among His signs is that the heavens and the earth stand by His command. Then when He calls you with a call from the earth, you will come out.
فَهذهSo theseالآياتthe signsكُونِيَّةٌare cosmicوَإِنand ifشِئْتَyou wishفَقُلthen sayكُونِيَّةٌare cosmicقَدَرِيَّةٌpredestinedوَكَانَتْand it wasآيَةًa signلِلَّهِfor Allahلِأَنَّهُbecauseلَاnoيَسْتَطِيعُcanالْخَلْقُthe creationأَنْtoيَفْعَلُهَاdo it
So these signs are cosmic, and if you wish, then say they are predestined signs; and it was a sign for Allah, because no creation can do it.
فَمَثَلًاFor exampleلَاnoيَسْتَطِيعُcanأَحَدٌanyoneأَنْtoيَخْلُقَcreateمِثْلَlikeالشَّمْسِthe sunوَالْقَمَرِand the moonوَلَاnorيَسْتَطِيعُcanأَنْtoيَأْتِيَcomeبِاللَّيْلِwith the nightإِذَاwhenجَاءَcomesالنَّهَارُthe dayوَلَاnorبِالنَّهَارِwith the dayإِذَاwhenجَاءَcomesاللَّيْلُthe night
For example, no one can create like the sun and the moon, nor can they come with the night when the day comes, nor with the day when the night comes.
فَهَذِهِSo theseالْآيَاتُthe signsكُونِيَّةٌare cosmic
So these signs are cosmic.
وَالْإِلْحَادُAnd the deviationفِيهَاin itأَنْthatيُنَسَبَهَاit be attributedإِلَىtoغَيْرِother thanاللَّهِAllahاسْتِقْلاَلًاindependentlyأَوorمُشَارَكَةًsharingأَوorإِعَانَةًhelpingفَيَقُولُThen he saysهَذَاthisمِنَfromالْوَلِيِّthe waliالْفُلَانِيso-and-soأَوorمِنَfromالنَّبِيِّthe prophetالْفُلَانِيso-and-soأَوorشَارَكَsharedفِيهِin itالنَّبِيُّthe prophetالْفُلَانِيso-and-soأَوorالْوَلِيُّthe waliالْفُلَانِيso-and-soأَوorأَعَانَhelpedاللَّهَAllahفِيهِin it
And the deviation in it is to attribute it to other than Allah, independently or sharing or helping. He says: This is from such-and-such wali, or from such-and-such prophet, or: he shared in it the such-and-such prophet or wali, or Allah helped him in it.
قَالَAllah saidاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىthe Most HighقُلِSayادْعُواCall uponالَّذِينَthose whoزَعَمْتُمْyou claimedمِّنfromدُونِbesidesاللَّهِAllahلَاDo notيَمْلِكُونَpossessمِثْقَالَthe weight ofذَرَّةٍan atomفِيinالسَّمَوَاتِthe heavensوَلَاand notفِيinالْأَرْضِthe earthوَمَاand nothingلَهُمْfor themفِيهِمَاin bothمِنanyشِرْكِshareوَمَاand whatلَهُHe hasمِنْهُمfrom themمِّنanyظَهِيرٍhelper
Allah said: "Call upon those whom you claim besides Allah; they do not possess the weight of an atom in the heavens or the earth, and they have no share in them, nor does He have any helpers from them."
فَنَفَىThus, He negatedكُلَّeveryشَيْءٍthingيَتَعَلَّقُrelated toبِهِwith Himالمُشْرِكُونَthe polytheistsبِكَوْنِby the fact thatمَعْبُودَاتِهِمtheir deitiesلَاdo notتَمْلُكُownشَيْئًاanythingفِيinالسَّمَوَاتِthe heavensوَandلَاnotفِيinالْأَرْضِthe earthاسْتِقْلَالًاindependentlyأَوorمُشَارَكَةًby sharingوَلَاand do notمُعِينَةًbe a helperلِلَّهِto Allahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Mighty and MajesticثُمَّThenجَاءَcameبِالرَّابِعِwith the fourthوَلَاand notتَنفَعُbenefitالشَّفَعَةُthe intercessionعِندَهُwith himإِلَّاexceptلِمَنْfor whomأَذِنَHe granted permissionلَهُto him
Thus, He negated every thing that is related to Him by the polytheists with the fact that their deities do not own anything in the heavens or the earth, independently or by sharing; nor are they a helper to Allah the Mighty and Majestic. Then He came with the fourth: "And the intercession does not benefit with Him, except for whom He granted permission."
لَمَّاWhenكَانَتْthere wereالمُشْرِكُونَthe polytheistsقَدhadيَقُولُونَin sayingنَعَمْIndeedهَذِهِtheseالأَصْنَامُthe idolsلَاdo notتَمْلِكُpossessوَلَاand do notتُشَارِكُshareوَلَاand do notتُعَانُhelpلَكِنَّهَاbut they wereشَفَعَاءُintercessorsقَالَHe said:فَقالَand saidلَاdo notتَنفَعُbenefitالشَّفَعَةُthe intercessionعِندَهُwith Himإِلَّاexceptلِمَنfor whomأَذِنَHe decidedلَهُto him
When the polytheists had been saying: 'Indeed, these idols do not possess nor do they share or help; but they are intercessors,' He said: 'And the intercession does not benefit with Him, except for whom He granted permission.'
فَقَطَعَThus He cut offكُلَّeveryسَبَبٍcauseيَتَعَلَّقُthat is related toبِهِwith Himالمُشْرِكُونَthe polytheists
Thus He cut off every cause that is related to Him by the polytheists.
الْقِسْمُThe second partالثَّانِيof the signsمِنَof theالْآيَاتِsignsالْآيَاتُthe signsالشَّرْعِيَّةُthe legislativeوَهِيَand they areمَاwhatجَاءَتْcameبِهِwith itالرُّسُلُthe messengers
The second part of the signs are the legislative signs, and they are what the messengers came with.
