كُفُوًاequalأَحَدٌone
He is not equal to anyone.
قَوْلُهُ:His saying:«وَلَا"And notنِدٌّsimilarلَهُto Him::وَالدَّلِيلُand the proofقَوْلُهُHis sayingتَعَالَى:the Most High:﴿فَلَا"So do notتَجْعَلُواmakeلِلَّهِfor Allahأَندَادًاequalsوَأَنتُمْand youتَعْلَمُونَknow.﴾"[البَقَرَة:[Al-Baqarah:٢٢]22]
His saying: "And there is no equal to Him: and the proof is His saying, the Most High: 'So do not make equals for Allah while you know.' [Al-Baqarah: 22]"
أَي:That is:تَعْلَمُونَyou knowأَنَّهُthat Heلَاnoنِدٌّequalلَهُ،to Him,وَالْنِدُّand the equalبِمَعْنَىmeansالنَّظِيرِ.the counterpart.
That is: you know that there is no equal to Him, and the equal means the counterpart.
وَهَذِهِAnd theseالثَّلَاثَةُthree--السَّمِيthe similarوَالكُفْءُand equalوَالْنِدُّand the equalـ-مَعْنَاهَاtheir meaningsمُتَقَارِبَةٌare very closeجِدًّا؛indeed;لَأَنَّbecauseمَعْنَىthe meaning ofالكُفْءِthe equalالَّذِيwhichيُكَافِئُهُmatches itوَلَاand notيُكَافِيءُis matchedالشَّيْءُthe thingالشَّيْءُthe thingإِلَّاexceptإِذَاifكَانَwasمِثْلَهُ،like it,فَإِنَّهُfor ifلَمْ يَكُنْit was notمِثْلُهُ؛its equal;لَمْ يَكُنْit was notمُكَافِئًاmatchingلَهُ،to it,إِذًا:then:لَاnoكُفْءٌequalلَهُ؛to Him;أَيْthat isلَيْسَis notلَهُto Himمَثِيلٌan equalسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himوَتَعَالَى.the Most High.
And these three - the similar, the equal, and the equal - their meanings are very close; because the meaning of the equal is that which matches it, and a thing cannot be equal to another unless it is like it; if it is not like it, then it is not equal to it; thus: there is no equal to Him; that is, He has no equal, Glory be to Him, the Most High.
وَهَذَاAnd thisالنَّفْيُthis denialالْمَقْصُودُis intendedمِنْهُfrom itكَمَالُthe perfectionصِفَاتِهِ؛of His attributes;لِأَنَّهُbecauseلِكَمَالِfor the perfectionصِفَاتِهِof His attributesلَاnoأَحَدٌoneيُمَاثِلُهُ.is like Him.
And this denial is intended for the perfection of His attributes; because for the perfection of His attributes, there is no one like Him.
قَوْلُهُHis sayingوَلَاAnd notيُقَاسُis measuredبِخَلْقِهِby His creationسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himوَتَعَالَى:the Most High:الْقِيَاسُThe measurementيَنْقَسِمُis dividedإِلَىintoثَلاثَةِthreeأَقْسَامٍ:types:الْقِيَاسُMeasurement،شُمُولٍ,comprehensiveوَقِيَاسٍand measurementتَمْثِيلٍ،of representation,وَقِيَاسٍand measurementأُولَوِيَّةٍ؛priority;فَهُوَHe isسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himوَتَعَالَىand the Most Highلَاnoيُقَاسُis measuredبِخَلْقِهِby His creationقِيَاسٌthrough representationتَمْثِيلٌof representationوَلَاand notقِيَاسٌmeasurementشُمُولٍ:comprehensive:
His saying: 'And not is measured by His creation; Glory be to Him, the Most High: the measurement is divided into three types: measurement, comprehensive, representation, and priority; He, Glory be to Him, the Most High, is not measured by His creation through representation nor through comprehensive measurement:'
١1--الْقِيَاسُMeasurementالشُّمُولُcomprehensive::هُوَIt isمَاwhatيُعَرَفُis knownبِالْعَامِّas the generalالشَّامِلِcomprehensive;لِجَمِيعِfor allأَفْرَادِهِ؛its individuals;بِحَيْثُso thatيَكُونَeach isكُلُّallفَرْدٍindividualمِنْهُof itدَاخِلًاincludedفِيinمَسَمّىthe nameذَلِكَthatاللَّفْظُtermوَمَعْنَاهُ؛and its meaning;فَمَثَلًا:for example:إِذَاifقُلْنَا:we say:الْحَيَاةُ؛life;فَإِنَّهُthenلَاnotتُقَاسُis measuredحَيَاةُthe lifeاللَّهُof Allahتَعَالَىthe Most Highبِحَيَاةِby the lifeالْخَلْقِof creationمِنْbyأَجَلٍbecauseأَنَّthatالْكُلُّallيَشْمَلُهُis includedاسْمٌthe name(حَيٍّ)(Living)؛;٢2--وAndقِيَاسُMeasureالتَّمْثِيلِrepresentation::هُوَIt isأَنْthatيُلْحَقَis attachedالشَّيْءُthe thingبِمَثِيلِهِ،with its counterpart,فَيَجْعَلُso it makesمَاwhatثَبَتَis establishedلِلْخَالِقِfor the Creatorمِثْلَlikeمَاwhatثَبَتَis establishedلِلْمَخْلُوقِ.for the creature.
1 - The comprehensive measurement: it is what is known as the comprehensive general for all its individuals; so that each individual of it is included in the name and meaning of that term; for example: if we say: 'life;' then the life of Allah, the Most High, is not measured by the life of creation because all is included in the name (Living); 2 - And the measurement of representation: it is that a thing is attached with its counterpart, so it makes what is established for the creator like what is established for the created.
٣3--وAndالْقِيَاسُMeasurementالأُولَوِيَّةُ؛the priority;هُوَIt isأَنْthatيَكُونَisالْفَرْعُthe branchأَوْلَىis foremostبِالْحُكْمِby the rulingمِنَthanالأَصْلِthe root؛;فَهُوَSo He isسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himوَتَعَالَى،and the Most High,لَاnoيُقَدَّرُis estimatedبِهِby it,
3 - And the measurement of priority; it is that it is foremost by the ruling than the root; so He is, Glory be to Him and the Most High, not estimated by it.
