وَأَنَّAnd thatهُوَitمَاnotمِنْofصَوْتٍsoundإِلَّاexceptوَandيَسْمَعُهُhe hears itاللَّهُAllah
And there is no sound except that Allah hears it.
الثَّانِيThe secondسَمْعٍHearingيُرَادُis intendedبِهِwith itالنَّصْرَvictoryوَالتَّأْيِيدَand assistance
The second: Hearing refers to victory and assistance.
وَالثَّالِثُAnd the thirdسَمْعٍHearingيُرَادُis intendedبِهِwith itالْوَعِيدِthe threatوَالتَّهْدِيدِand warning
And the third: Hearing refers to the warning and threat.

مِثَالٌAn exampleالأَوَّلُthe first::قَوْلُهُHis sayingتَعَالَىthe Most High﴿(قَدْIndeedسَمِعَhas heardاللَّهُAllahقَوْلَthe statementالَّتِيof the one whoتُجَادِلُكَargues with youفِيinزَوْجِهَاher husbandوَandتَشْتَكِيcomplainsإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllah
The first example: His saying, the Most High: "Indeed, Allah has heard the statement of the one who argues with you concerning her husband and complains to Allah."
فَهَذَاThis isفِيهِin itبَيَانٌa statementإِحَاطَةٌof encompassingسَمْعٍhearingتَعَالَىthe Most Highبِكُلٍّwith allمَسْمُوعٍheard,,وَلِهَذَاAnd for this reasonقَالَتْshe saidعَائِشَةُAishaرَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَاMay Allah be pleased with her
This contains a statement of the encompassing hearing of the Most High over all that is heard. And for this reason, Aisha said: "Praise be to Allah who encompasses all sounds, and by Allah, I was in the room, and some of her speech was hidden from me."
وَمِثَالٌAnd an exampleالثَّانِيthe second::كَمَاAsفِيinقَوْلِهِHis sayingتَعَالَىthe Most Highلِمُوسَىto Mosesوَهَارُونَand Aaron::﴿(إِنَّنِيIndeed, Iمَعَكُمَاwith you bothأَسْمَعُI hearوَandأَرَىI see
An example of the second: As in His saying, the Most High, to Moses and Aaron: "Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and see".
وَمِثَالٌAnd an exampleالثَّالِثthe third::الَّذِيwhichيُرَادُis intendedبِهِwith itالتَّهْدِيدِthe threatوَالْوَعِيدِand warning::قَوْلُهُHis sayingتَعَالَىthe Most HighأَمْOrيَحْسَبُونَdo they thinkأَنَّاthat weلَاdo notنَسْمَعُhearسِرَّهُمْtheir secretsوَandنَجْوَاهُمْtheir whisperingsبَلَىYesوَandرُسُلُنَاOur messengersلَدَيْهِمْwith themيَكْتُبُونَare writing
And the third example intended for threatening and warning: His saying, the Most High: "Or do they think that we do not hear their secrets and whisperings? Yes, Our messengers are with them writing."
فَإِنَّFor indeedهَذَاthisيُرَادُis intendedبِهِwith itتَهْدِيدَهُمْto threaten themوَوَعِيدَهُمْand warn them؛;حَيْثُwhereكَانُواthey wereيَسْرُّونَkeeping secretمَاwhatلَاdo notيَرْضَىis pleasingمِنْofالْقَوْلِspeech
For indeed, this is intended to threaten and warn them; where they were keeping secret what is not pleasing of speech.
وَالسَّمْعُAnd the hearingبِمَعْنَىin the sense ofإِدْرَاكٍperceptionالْمَسْمُوعِthe heardمِنْofالصِّفَاتِattributesالذَّاتِيَّةِessential،,وَإِنَّand althoughكَانَit has beenالْمَسْمُوعُthe heardقَدْmayيَكُونَbeحَادِثاًan occurrence
And the hearing in the sense of perceiving that which is heard is among the essential attributes, even though the heard may be an occurrence.
وَالسَّمْعُAnd the hearingبِمَعْنَىin the sense ofالنَّصْرِvictoryوَالتَّأْيِيدِand supportمِنْofالصِّفَاتِattributesالْفِعْلِيَّةِactive؛;لِأَنَّهُbecause it isمَقْرُونٌassociatedبِسَبَبٍwith a cause
And the hearing in the sense of victory and support is among the attributes of action; because it is associated with a cause.
