ثَانِيًاSecondly::مُخَالِفٌopposedلِإِجْمَاعِto the consensusالصَّحَابَةِof the companionsوَإِجْمَاعِand the consensusالسَّلَفِof the predecessorsقَاطِبَةٌcompletely
Secondly, it is opposed to the consensus of the companions and the consensus of the predecessors completely.
ثَالِثًاThirdly::أَنَّهُthat itلَمْhas notيُرَدَّbeen mentionedفِيinاللُّغَةِthe languageالعَرَبِيَّةِArabicأَنَّthat(اسْتَوَى)(Istawa)بِمَعْنَىmeansاسْتَوَلَى)(Istawla)وَالْبَيْتِand the houseالَّذِيthatاحْتَجُّواthey citedبِهِwith itعَلَىonذَٰلِكَthatلَاdoes notيَتِمُّfulfillبِهِby itالْاِسْتِدْلَالُthe proof
Thirdly, it has not been mentioned in the Arabic language that '(Istawa)' means '(Istawla)'; and the argument they cited does not fulfill the proof.
رَابِعًاFourthly::أَنَّهُthat itيَلْزَمُentailsعَلَيْهِfor himلَوَازِمَconsequencesبَاطِلَةٌfalse::لِغَيْرِfor othersاللَّهِAllahمِنْهَاAmong them::أَنَّthatيَكُونَthere isالْعَرْشُthe Throneقَبْلَbeforeخَلْقِthe creationالسَّمَاوَاتِthe heavensوَالْأَرْضِand the earthمُلْكًاa dominionأَنْthatكَلِمَةًthe word(اسْتَوَلَى)(Istawla)تُعْطِيgivesفِيinالْغَالِبِmost casesأَنَّthatهُنَاكَthere isمُغَالَبَةٌcompetitive struggleبَيْنَbetweenاللَّهِAllahوَبَيْنَand betweenغَيْرِهِothersفَاسْتَوَىso he overpoweredعَلَيْهِupon himوَغَلَبَهُand defeated him
Fourthly, it entails false consequences: that the Throne would be a dominion for others besides Allah, with one being that the word '(Istawla)' generally gives that there is a competitive struggle between Allah and others; thus, he overpowered him and defeated him.
أَنْthatنَقُولُwe sayـ عَلَى– according toزَعْمُكُمْyour claim::أَنَّthatاللَّهَAllahاسْتَوَىIstawaعَلَىuponالأَرْضِthe earthوَالشَّجَرِand the treesوَالْجِبَالِand the mountainsوَالْإِنْسَانِand the humanوَالْبَعِيرِ؛and the camel;
That we say — according to your claim: that Allah Istawa upon the earth, the trees, the mountains, the human, and the camel; because he 'overpowered' those things; if it is correct to use the word 'overpowered' on something, it is correct to use 'Istawa' on that thing, since they are synonymous according to your claim.
فَبِهَذِهِThus by theseالْأَوْجُهُwaysيَتَّبَيَّنُit becomes clearأَنْthatتَفْسِيرُهُمْtheir interpretationبَاطِلٌis false.
Thus by these ways, it becomes clear that their interpretation is false.
وَلَمَّاAnd whenكَانَwasأَبُوAbuالْمَعَالِيal-Maaliالْجُوَيْنِيal-Juwainiعَفَاmay Allah forgiveاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُfrom himيُقَرِّرُestablishesمَذْهَبَthe doctrineالْأَشَاعِرَةِof Ashari,,وَيُنْكِرُand deniesاسْتِوَاءَthe IstawaاللَّهَAllahعَلَىuponالْعَرْشِthe ThroneبَلْRather,وَيُنْكِرُand deniesعُلُوَّthe exaltednessاللَّهِof Allahبِذَاتِهِin His essence;قَالَhe said:كَانَwasاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىthe Most High;وَلَمْand notيَكُنْwasشَيْءٌanythingغَيْرُهُother than Him.وَهُوَAnd He isالْآنَnowعَلَىinمَاwhatكَانَwasعَلَيْهِupon Himوَهُوَand He wantsيُرِيدُto denyأَنْthatيُنْكِرَdeniesاسْتِوَاءَthe IstawaاللَّهَAllahعَلَىuponالْعَرْشِ؛the Throne;يَعْنِيhe means:كَانَwasوَلَاand notعَرْشٌa Throne,وَهُوَand He isالْآنَnowعَلَىinمَاwhatكَانَwasعَلَيْهِ؛upon Him;إِذًاSo then,::لَمْdid notيَسْتَوِIstawa.
And when Abu al-Maali al-Juwaini, may Allah forgive him, establishes the doctrine of the Ashari and denies the Istawa of Allah upon the Throne; rather, he denies the exaltedness of Allah in His essence; he said: 'Allah was, and there was nothing other than Him, and He is now as He was; He wants to deny the Istawa of Allah upon the Throne; meaning: He was without a Throne, and He is now upon what He was; thus He did not Istawa upon the Throne.'
فَقَالَSo he saidلَهُto himأَبُوAbuالعُلَاAl-Alaالْهَمَذَانِيal-Hamadhani;يَاOأُسْتَاذَ!master!دعْنَاLeave usمِنْfromذِكْرِmentioningالْعَرْشِthe Throne;وَالِاسْتِوَاءِand the Istawaعَلَىupon
So he said to him: 'O Abu al-Ala al-Hamadhani! Leave us from the mentioning of the Throne and the Istawa upon the Throne;'
يَعْنِيHe means:لِأَنَّBecauseدَلِيلَهُhis evidenceسَمْعِيٌّ،is auditory,وَلَوْلَاand were it notأَنْthatقَرَارَهُمْtheir positionسَمْعِيٌّauditory,لَمَاit would not
He means: Because his evidence is auditory, and were it not for their evidence being auditory, it would not have been.
