Seven – Conditions of the Two Testimonies (1)
جَاءَIt cameعَنْfromإِيَاسِIyasابْنِson ofأَبِيAbiتَمِيمَةَTamimah,
It came from Iyas son of Abi Tamimah,
قَالَ:he said:شَهِدْتُ"I witnessedالْحَسَنَAl-Hasanفِيinجِنَازَةِthe funeralأَبِيof AbiرَجَاءٍRaja'
he said: "I witnessed Al-Hasan in the funeral of Abi Raja'
عَلَىonبَغْلَتِهِ،his mule,وَالْفَرَزْدَقُand Al-Farazdaqإِلَىbesideجَنْبِهِhimعَلَىonبَعِيرٍ،a camel,
on his mule, and Al-Farazdaq beside him on a camel,
فَقَالَso saidلَهُto himالْفَرَزْدَقُ:Al-Farazdaq:قَدْIndeedاسْتَشْرَفَنَاpeople are looking forward to us,النَّاسُ،the people,
so Al-Farazdaq said to him: 'The people are looking forward to us,
يَقُولُونَ:saying:خَيْرُThe bestالنَّاسِ،of people,وَشَرُّand the worstالنَّاسِ،of people.'
saying: The best of people, and the worst of people.'
قَالَ:He said:يَا"OأَبَاAbuفِرَاسِ،Firas,كَمْhow manyمِنْofأَشْعَثَunkemptأَغْبَرَdusty men
He said: 'O Abu Firas, how many unkempt, dusty men
ذِيwithطِمْرَيْنِtwo worn-out garmentsخَيْرٌis betterمِنِّي!than me!
with two worn-out garments are better than me!
وَكَمْAnd how manyمِنْofشَيْخٍold menمُشْرِكٍpolytheistsأَنْتَyouخَيْرٌare betterمِنْهُ!than them!
And how many polytheist old men you are better than!
مَاWhatأَعْدَدْتَhave you preparedلِلْمَوْتِ؟for death?"
What have you prepared for death?"
قَالَ:He said:شَهَادَةُ"The testimonyأَنْthatلَاthere is noإِلَهَgodإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُ.Allah."
He said: 'The testimony that there is no god except Allah.'
قَالَ:He said:إِنَّ"Indeedمَعَهَاwith itشُرُوطاً،are conditions,فَإِيَّاكَso bewareوَقَذْفَof falsely accusingالْمُحْصَنَةِ.chaste women."
He said: 'Indeed, with it are conditions, so beware of falsely accusing chaste women.'
قَالَ:He said:هَلْ"Is thereمِنْanyتَوْبَةٍ؟repentance?"
He said: 'Is there any repentance?'
قَالَ:He said:نَعَمْ""Yes"(٢).(2).
He said: 'Yes' (2).
وَقَالَAnd saidابْنُIbnرَجَبٍ:Rajab:"وَقَالَتْ"And saidطَائِفَةٌa groupمِنَofالْعُلَمَاءِ:scholars:
And Ibn Rajab said: "And a group of scholars said:
الْمُرَادُThe intended meaningمِنْofهَذِهِtheseالْأَحَادِيثِhadithsأَنَّis thatلَاthere is noإِلَهَgodإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllah
The intended meaning of these hadiths is that 'There is no god except Allah'
سَبَبٌis a causeلِدُخُولِfor enteringالْجَنَّةِParadiseوَالنَّجَاةِand salvationمِنَfromالنَّارِ،the Fire,وَمُقْتَضٍand necessitatesلِذَلِكَ.that.
is a cause for entering Paradise and salvation from the Fire, and necessitates that.
وَلَكِنَّButالْمُقْتَضِيَthe necessitating factorلَاdoes notيَعْمَلُoperateعَمَلَهُits operationإِلَّاexceptبِاسْتِجْمَاعِby fulfillingشُرُوطِهِits conditionsوَانْتِفَاءِand the absenceمَوَانِعِهِ،of its obstacles,
But the necessitating factor does not operate except by fulfilling its conditions and the absence of its obstacles,
فَقَدْso it mayيَتَخَلَّفُfail to occurعَنْهُfrom itمُقْتَضَاهُits consequenceلِفَوَاتِdue to the missingشَرْطٍof a conditionمِنْfromشُرُوطِهِits conditionsأَوْorلِوُجُودِdue to the presenceمَانِعٍ.of an obstacle.
so its consequence may fail to occur due to the missing of a condition from its conditions or due to the presence of an obstacle.
وَهَذَاAnd thisقَوْلُis the sayingالْحَسَنِof Al-Hasanوَوَهْبِand Wahbبْنِson ofمُنَبِّهٍMunabbih,وَهُوَand it isالْأَظْهَرُthe more apparent"(٣)." (3).
And this is the saying of Al-Hasan and Wahb son of Munabbih, and it is the more apparent" (3).
وَقَدْAnd indeedنَظَمَcomposedالشَّيْخُSheikhحَافِظُHafizالْحِكْمِيُّAl-Hakamiالشُّرُوطَthe conditionsفِيinالْأَبْيَاتِthe versesالتَّالِيَةِ:following:
And Sheikh Hafiz Al-Hakami composed the conditions in the following verses:
وَبِشُرُوطٍAnd with conditionsسَبْعَةٍsevenقَدْindeedقُيِّدَتْwere restricted,وَفِيand inنُصُوصِthe textsالْوَحْيِof revelationحَقّاًtrulyوَرَدَتْthey have come.
And with seven conditions they were restricted, and in the texts of revelation truly they have come.
فَإِنَّهُFor indeedلَمْnotيَنْتَفِعْwill benefitقَائِلُهَاits speakerبِالنُّطْقِby uttering itإِلَّاexceptحَيْثُwhenيَسْتَكْمِلُهَاhe fulfills them.
For indeed, the speaker of them does not benefit from uttering them except when he fulfills them:
الْعِلْمُKnowledgeوَالْيَقِينُand certaintyوَالْقَبُولُand acceptanceوَالْانْقِيَادُand submission,فَادْرِso understandمَاwhatأَقُولُI say.
Knowledge and certainty and acceptance and submission, so understand what I say.
وَالصِّدْقُAnd sincerityوَالْإِخْلَاصُand purity of intentionوَالْمَحَبَّةُ،and love,وَفَّقَكَmay Allah grantاللَّهُyouلِمَاto whatأَحَبَّهُHe loves(٤)(4)
And sincerity and purity of intention and love. May Allah grant you success in what He loves (4).
وَنَظَمَهَاAnd composed themبَعْضُهُمْsome of themبِقَوْلِهِ:with his saying:
And some of them composed them with his saying:
عِلْمٌKnowledge,يَقِينٌcertainty,وَإِخْلَاصٌand purity of intention,وَصِدْقُكَand your sincerityمَعَalong withمَحَبَّةٍloveوَانْقِيَادٍand submission,وَالْقَبُولِand acceptanceلَهَاof them(٥)(5)
Knowledge, certainty, and purity of intention, and your sincerity, along with love and submission and acceptance of them (5).
