الكُفْرُDisbeliefبِإِيمَانِهِمْ؟in their faith?
Disbelief in their faith?
فَمَاSo whatأَخْسَرَa greater lossتِجَارَتُهُمْis their tradeالْبَائِرَةُ!worthless!
So what a greater loss is their trade worthless!
وَقَدْAnd they haveاسْتَبْدَلُواexchangedبِالرَّحِيقِthe sealed nectarالْمُخْتُومِsealedحَرِيقًاfire.
And they have exchanged the sealed nectar for fire.
فَكَيْفَSo howإِذَاifأَصَابَتْهُمa calamity befalls themمُصِيبَةٌa disasterبِمَاbecause of whatقَدَّمَتْtheir hands have sent forthأَيْدِيهِمْtheir handsثُمَّthenجَاءُوكَthey come to youيَحْلِفُونَswearingبِاللَّهِby Allahإِنَّthatأَرَدْنَاwe intendedإِلَّاonlyإِحْسَانًاgoodnessوَتَوْفِيقًاand success.
So how if a calamity befalls them because of what their hands have sent forth, then they come to you swearing by Allah that they intended only goodness and success.
نَشَبَتْgerminatedزَقُّومٌthe bitter treeالشُّبَهَاتِof doubtsوَالشَّكُوكِand uncertaintiesفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْ.their hearts.
The bitter tree of doubts and uncertainties germinated in their hearts.
فَلَاSo they do notيَجِيدُونَfindلَهُfor itمُسِيغًاan argument.
So they do not find for it an argument.
أُولَـٰئِكَThoseالَّذِينَwhoيَعْلَمُknowsاللَّهُAllahمَاwhatفِيis inقُلُوبِهِمْtheir hearts.فَأَعْرِضْSo turn awayعَنْهُمْfrom themوَاعِظْهُمْand advise themوَقُلْand sayلَهُمْto themفِيinأَنفُسِهِمْthemselvesقَوْلًاa sayingبَلِيغًاeloquent.
Those who Allah knows what is in their hearts. So turn away from them and advise them, and say to them an eloquent saying.
تَبًاCursedلَهُمْ،be upon them.مَاWhatأَبْعَدَهُمْfar are theyعَنْfromحَقِيقَةِthe truthالإِيمَانِ!of faith!
Cursed be upon them. How far are they from the truth of faith!
وَمَاAnd whatأَكْذَبَmore of a lieدَعْوَاهُمْis their claimلِتَحْقِيقِfor verificationوَالْمَعْرِفَةِ،and knowledge.فَالْقَوْمُFor the peopleفِيis inشَأْنٍa matterوَأَتْبَاعُand the followersالرَّسُولِof the Messengerفِيinشَأْنٍ.a matter.
And what more of a lie is their claim for verification and knowledge? For the people are in a matter and the followers of the Messenger are in a matter.
لَقَدْIndeedأَقْسَمَHe sworeاللَّهُAllahجَلَّThe Glorifiedجَلَالَهُand ExaltedفِيinكِتَابِهِHis Bookبِنَفْسِهِby Himselfالْمُقَدَّسَةِthe Sacredقَسَمًاa great oathعَظِيمًاgreatيَعْرِفُknownمَضْمُونَهُits meaningأُولِيthose whoالْبَصَائِرِ،have insight.
Indeed Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, swore by Himself in His Book a great oath, known by those who have insight.
فَقُلُوبُهُمْSo their heartsمِنْهُare cautious of itعَلَىin honor ofحَذَرٍcautionإِجْلاَلًاgreatnessلَهُto Himوَتَعْظِيمًا،and magnification.فَقَالَSo He saidتَعَالَىthe Most Highتَحْذِيرًاwarningلِأَوْلِيَائِهِto His alliesوَتَنْبِيهًاand as a reminderعَلَىonحَالِthe conditionهَؤُلَاءِof theseوَتَفْهيمًا:and understanding:
So their hearts are cautious of it in honor of Him and magnification. So the Most High said as a warning to His allies and as a reminder of the condition of these and understanding.
فَلَاSo notوَرَبِّكَby your Lordلَاnotيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveحَتَّىuntilيُحَكِّمُوكَhe makes you a judgeفِيمَاin whatشَجَرَhas arisenبَيْنَهُمْbetween themثُمَّthenلَاnotيَجِدُواthey findفِيinأَنفُسِهِمْthemselvesحَرَجًاan uneaseمِمَّاfrom whatقَضَيْتَYou have judgedوَيُسَلِّمُواand they submitتَسْلِيمًا.submission.
So not by your Lord they do not believe until they make you a judge in what has arisen between them, then they do not find in themselves an unease from what you have judged and they submit submission.
تَسْبِقُprecedeيَمِينُthe oathأَحَدُهُمْof one of themكَلَامَهُhis wordsمِنْfromغَيْرِwithoutأَنْthatيُعَارِضَhe objectsعَلَيْه.to it.
The oath of one of them precedes his words without him objecting to it.
لِعِلْمِهِFor he knowsأَنَّthatقُلُوبَthe heartsأَهْلِof the peopleالإِيمَانِof faithلَاdo notتَطْمَئِنُfind peaceإِلَيْهِ،in it,فَيَتَبَرَّأُso he disassociatesبِيَمِينِهِby his oathمِنْfromسُوءٍevil.
For he knows that the hearts of the people of faith do not find peace in it, so he disassociates by his oath from evil.
