وَAndالزُّهْدَthe asceticismوَالْاجْتِهَادَand the diligence
And asceticism and diligence.
وَإِذَاAnd whenتَوَلَّىhe turns awayسَعَىhe strivesفِيinالْأَرْضِthe earthلِيُفْسِدَto cause corruptionفِيهَاthereinوَيُهْلِكَand to destroyالْحَرْثَthe cropsوَالنَّسْلَand the offspringوَاللَّهُand Allahلَاdoes notيُحِبُّloveالْفَسَادَcorruption
And when he turns away, he strives in the earth to cause corruption therein and to destroy the crops and the offspring. And Allah does not love corruption.
فَهُمُSo theyجِنْسَkindبَعْضَهُsome of itيُشَبِّهُresemblesبَعْضًاothers,,يَأْمُرُونَthey commandبِالْمُنْكَرِthe evilبَعْدَafterأَنْthatيَفْعَلُوهُthey do it
So they are a kind, some of which resembles others; they command the evil after they do it.
وَيَنْهَوْنَAnd they forbidعَنْfromالْمَعْرُوفِthe goodبَعْدَafterأَنْthatيَتْرُكُوهُthey leave it
And they forbid from the good after they leave it.
وَيَبْخَلُونَAnd they are stingyبِالْمَالِwith wealthفِيinسَبِيلِthe wayاللَّهِof AllahوَandمَرْضَاتِهِHis pleasureأَنْtoيُنْفِقُوهُspend it
And they are stingy with wealth in the way of Allah and His pleasure to spend it.
كَمْHow many timesذَكَّرَهُمُhas He reminded themاللَّهُAllahبِنِعَمِهِof His blessingsفَأَعْرَضُواbut they turned awayعَنْfromذِكْرِهِHis remembrance,,وَنَسُواand forgot Him
How many times has Allah reminded them of His blessings, but they turned away from His remembrance and forgot Him.
وَكَمْAnd how many timesكَشَفَhas He revealedحَالَهُمْtheir stateلِعِبَادِهِto His servantsالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersلِأَنْso thatيَتَّقِيهَاthey might guard against it
And how many times has He revealed their state to His believing servants so that they might guard against it.
فَاسْمَعُواSo listenأَيُّهَاOالْمُؤْمِنُونَbelievers
So listen, O believers.
المُنَافِقُونَThe hypocritical menوَandالمُنَافِقَاتُthe hypocritical women::بَعْضُهُمْsome of themمِنْare fromبَعْضٍeach other..يَأْمُرُونَThey commandبِالْمُنْكَرِthe evilوَيَنْهَوْنَand forbidعَنِfromالْمَعْرُوفِthe goodوَيَقْبِضُونَand they closeأَيْدِيَهُمْtheir hands
The hypocritical men and the hypocritical women are of one another. They command the evil and forbid the good, and they close their hands.
نَسُواThey forgotاللَّهَAllahفَنَسِيَهُمْso He forgot themإِنَّIndeedالمُنَافِقِينَthe hypocritesهُمْthey areالْفَاسِقُونَthe defiantly disobedient
They forgot Allah, so He forgot them. Indeed, the hypocrites are the defiantly disobedient.
إِنْIfحَاكَمْتَهُمْyou judge themإِلَىtoصَرِيحِthe clearالْوَحْيِrevelationوَجَدْتَهُمْyou will find themعَنْهُfrom itنَافِرِينَaverse
If you judge them by the clear revelation, you will find them averse to it.
وَإِنْAnd ifدَعَوْتَهُمْyou call themإِلَىtoحُكْمِthe rulingكِتَابِof the Bookاللَّهِof Allahوَسُنَّةِand the Sunnahرَسُولِهِof His Messengerصَلَّىmay peace beاللَّهُupon him by Allahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand [He] grant him security
And if you call them to the ruling of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may Allah send peace and blessings upon him.
رَأَيْتَهُمْYou see themعَنْهُfrom itمُعْرِضِينَturning away
You see them turning away from it.
فَلَوْThen if onlyشَهِدْتَyou had witnessedحَقَائِقَهُمْtheir realitiesلَرَأَيْتَyou would have seenبَيْنَهَاbetween itوَبَيْنَand betweenالْهُدَىthe guidanceأَمَدًاa distanceبَعِيدًاfar away
Then if only you had witnessed their realities, you would have seen a far distance between them and the guidance.
وَرَأَيْتُهَاAnd I saw itمُعْرِضَةًturning awayعَنْfromالْوَحْيِthe revelationإِعْرَاضًاwith a great turning away
And I saw it turning away from the revelation with a great turning away.
وَإِذَاAnd whenقِيلَit is saidلَهُمْto themتَعَالَوْاComeإِلَىtoمَاwhatأَنْزَلَhas sent downاللَّهُAllahوَإِلَىand toالرَّسُولِthe Messengerرَأَيْتَyou seeالْمُنَافِقِينَthe hypocritesيَصُدُّونَturning awayعَنْكَfrom youصُدُودًاan aversion
And when it is said to them, 'Come to what Allah has sent down and to the Messenger,' you see the hypocrites turning away from you with an aversion.
فَكَيْفَThen howلَهُمْfor themبِالْفَلَاحِis successوَالْهُدَى؟and guidanceبَعْدَafterأَنْ أُصِيبُواthey were struckفِيinعُقُولِهِمْtheir mindsوَأَدْيَانِهِمْand their religionsوَكَيْفَAnd howلَهُمْfor themالتَّخَلُّصُis the escapeمِنَfromالضَّلَالِthe misguidanceوَالرَّدَى؟and destruction
Then how can they attain success and guidance after they have been struck in their minds and their religions? And how can they escape from misguidance and destruction?
وَقَدْAnd verilyاشْتَرَوْاthey have purchasedمَاthat which
And verily they have purchased that which.
