يَتَرَبَّصُونَThey waitالدَّوَائِرَfor the cycles of misfortuneبِأَهْلِregarding the peopleالسُّنَّةِof the Sunnahوَالْقُرْآنِand the Quran.
They wait for the cycles of misfortune regarding the people of the Sunnah and the Quran.
فَإِنْSo ifكَانَthere isلَهُمْfor themفَتْحٌa victoryمِنَfromاللَّهِAllah,قَالُواthey say,أَلَمْDid notنَكُنْwe beمَعَكُمْwith you?
So if there is a victory for them from Allah, they say, 'Did we not be with you?'
وَأَقْسَمُواAnd they swearعَلَىbyذَٰلِكَthatبِاللَّهِby Allah,جَهْدَwith the utmostأَيْمَانِهِمْof their oaths.
And they swear by that by Allah with the utmost of their oaths.
وَإِنْAnd ifكَانَthere isلِأَعْدَاءِfor the enemiesالْكِتَابِof the Bookوَالسُّنَّةِand the Sunnahمِنَofالنَّصْرَةِsupportنَصِيبٌa share,قَالُواthey say,أَلَمْDid notتَعْلَمُواyou knowأَنَّthatعَقْدَthe bondالإِخَاءِof brotherhoodبَيْنَنَاbetween usمُحْكَمٌis firm,وَأَنَّand thatالنَّسَبَthe kinshipبَيْنَنَاamong usقَرِيبٌ؟is close?
And if the enemies of the Book and the Sunnah have a share of support, they say, 'Did you not know that the bond of brotherhood between us is firm, and that the kinship among us is close?'
فَيَاSo Oمَنْyou whoيُرِيدُwantsمَعْرِفَتَهُمْto know them,خُذْtakeصِفَاتَهُمْtheir traitsمِنْfromكَلَامِthe speech ofرَبِّthe Lordالْعَالَمِينَ.of the worlds.
So O you who wants to know them, take their traits from the speech of the Lord of the worlds.
فَلاSo do notتَحْتَاجُyou needبَعْدَهُafter itدَلِيلًا.any further proof.
So you do not need any further proof after it.
الَّذِينَThose whoيَتَرَبَّصُونَwaitبِكُمْconcerning youفَإِنْso ifكَانَthere isلَكُمْfor youفَتْحٌa victoryمِنَfromاللَّهِAllah,قَالُواthey say,أَلَمْDid notنَكُنْwe beمَعَكُمْ؟with you?
Those who wait concerning you: so if there is a victory for you from Allah, they say, 'Did we not be with you?'
وَإِنْAnd ifكَانَthere isلِلْكَافِرِينَfor the disbelieversنَصِيبٌa shareقَالُواthey say,أَلَمْDid notنَسْتَحْوِذْwe gain masteryعَلَيْكُمْover youوَنَمْنَعْكُمْand protect youمِنَfromالْمُؤْمِنِينَ؟the believers?
And if there is a share for the disbelievers, they say, 'Did we not gain mastery over you and protect you from the believers?'
فَاللَّهُSo Allahيَحْكُمُwill judgeبَيْنَكُمْbetween youيَوْمَon the Dayالْقِيَامَةِ.of Resurrection.
So Allah will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection.
وَلَنْAnd neverيَجْعَلَwill makeاللَّهُAllahلِلْكَافِرِينَfor the disbelieversعَلَىoverالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersسَبِيلًا.a way.
And never will Allah make for the disbelievers a way over the believers.
يُعْجِبُAmazesالسَّامِعَthe listenerقَوْلُthe speechأَحَدِهِمْof one of themلِحَلَاوَتِهِdue to its sweetnessوَلِينِهِ.and softness.
The speech of one of them amazes the listener due to its sweetness and softness.
وَيَشْهَدُAnd he calls as witnessاللَّهَAllahعَلَىtoمَاwhatفِيis inقَلْبِهِhis heartمِنْofكَذِبِهِhis falsehoodوَمِينِهِ،and deceit,
And he calls Allah as witness to what is in his heart of his falsehood and deceit,
فَتَرَاهُso you see himعِندَatالْحَقِّthe truthنَائِمًا.sleeping.
so you see him sleeping regarding the truth.
وَفِيAnd inالْبَاطِلِfalsehoodعَلَىuponالأَقْدَامِ،his feet (active and alert).
And active upon his feet in falsehood,
فَخُذْso takeوَصْفَهُمْtheir descriptionمِنْfromقَوْلِthe statement ofالْقُدُّوسِthe Most Holy,السَّلاَمِ:the Source of Peace:
so take their description from the statement of the Most Holy, the Source of Peace:
وَمِنَAnd amongالنَّاسِthe peopleمَنْis he whoseيُعْجِبُكَimpresses youقَوْلُهُspeechفِيinالْحَيَاةِthe lifeالدُّنْيَاof this world,وَيُشْهِدُand he calls Allahاللَّهَas witnessعَلَىtoمَاwhatفِيis inقَلْبِهِhis heart,وَهُوَwhile he isأَلَدُّthe fiercestالْخِصَامِ.of opponents.
And among the people is he whose speech impresses you in the life of this world, and he calls Allah as witness to what is in his heart, while he is the fiercest of opponents.
أَوَامِرُهُمْTheir commandsالَّتِيthatيَأْمُرُونَthey enjoinبِهَاuponأَتْبَاعَهُمْtheir followersمَتَضَمِّنَةٌare inclusiveلِفَسَادِof the corruptionالْبِلَادِof the landsوَالْعِبَادِ،and the servants,وَنَوَاهِيهِمْand their prohibitionsعَمَّاagainst whatفِيهِlies thereinصَلَاحُهُمْtheir righteousnessفِيinالْمَعَاشِworldly livelihoodوَالْمَعَادِ.and the Hereafter.
Their commands that they enjoin upon their followers are inclusive of the corruption of the lands and the servants, and their prohibitions are against what lies therein of their righteousness in worldly livelihood and the Hereafter.
وَأَحَدُهُمْAnd one of themتَلْقَاهُyou meet himبَيْنَamongجَمَاعَةِa gathering ofأَهْلِthe peopleالإِيمَانِof faithفِيinالصَّلاَةِprayerوَذِكْرِهِ.and remembrance.
And one of them you meet among a gathering of the people of faith in prayer and remembrance.
