الأخْرَوِيَّةُThe hereafterبِقَدْرِaccording toالتَّوْبَةِrepentanceوَandالإِيمَانِfaithوَandالأَعْمَالِthe deedsالصَّالِحَةِrighteous
The hereafter is according to repentance, faith, and righteous deeds;
فَهَذَاthis isوَزَانٌthe weightالْقَدْرِof destinyالمَخُوفِthe fearfulفِيinالدُّنْيَاthis worldوَمَاand whatيُضَادُّهُcontradicts itسَواءٌis the same.
This is the weight of the fearful destiny in this world and what contradicts it is the same.
فَرَبُّFor the Lordالْدَّارَيْنِof both worldsواحِدٌis one,وَحُكْمَتُهُand His wisdomواحِدَةٌis one,لَاnotيُنَاقِضُcontradictبَعْضَهَاeach otherبَعْضًاat all,
For the Lord of both worlds is one, and His wisdom is one; it does not contradict itself at all.
فَهَذِهِThis matterالْمَسْأَلَةُis the matterمِنْofأَشْرَفِthe most nobleالْمَسَائِلِissuesلِمَنْfor whoeverعَرَفَknowsقَدْرَهَاits value,وَرَعَاهَاand takes care of itحَقًّاas it shouldرِعَايَتَهَاbe looked after.وَاللَّٰهُAnd Allahالمُسْتَعَانُis the Helper.
This matter is one of the most noble issues for whoever knows its value and takes care of it as it should be looked after. And Allah is the Helper.
لَكِنْButيَبْقَىthere remainعَلَيْهِto himأَمْرَانِtwo mattersبِهُمَاby whichتَتِمُّhis happinessسَعَادَتُهُand success:أَحَدُهُمَاOne is
But there remain two matters by which his happiness and success will be completed:
أَنْtoيَعْرِفَknowتَفَاصِيلَthe detailsأَسْبَابَof the causesالشَّرِّof evilوَالْخَيْرِand good,وَيَكُونَand beلَهُfor himبَصِيرَةًinsightفِيinذَٰلِكَthatبِمَاby whatيُشَاهِدُهُhe seesفِيinالْعَالَمِthe world,وَمَاand whatجَرَّبَهُhe has experiencedفِيinنَفْسِهِhimselfوَغَيْرِهِand others,وَمَاand whatسَمِعَهُhe has heardمِنْfromأَخْبَارِthe newsالْأُمَمِof nationsقَدِيمًاof oldوَحَدِيثًاand modern.
One is to know the details of the causes of evil and good, and to have insight in that by what he sees in the world, and what he has experienced in himself and others, and what he has heard from the news of the nations of old and modern.
وَمِنْAnd one ofأَنْفَعِthe most beneficialمَا فِي ذَٰلِكَin that isتَدَبُّرُthe contemplation ofالْقُرْآنِthe Quranفَإِنَّهُfor it isكَفِيلٌsufficientبِذَٰلِكَin thatعَلَىin the mostأَكْمَلَcompleteالْوُجُوهِways,وَفِيهِand thereinأَسْبَابٌare the causesالشَّرِّof evilوَالْخَيْرِand goodجَمِيعًاall togetherمُفَصَّلَةٌdetailedمُبَيَّنَةٌand clarified.
And one of the most beneficial in that is the contemplation of the Quran, for it is sufficient for that in the most complete ways, and therein are the causes of both evil and good all detailed and clarified.
ثُمَّThenالسُّنَّةُthe Sunnah,فَإِنَّهَاfor it isشَقِيقَةٌsisterlyالْقُرْآنِto the Quranوَهِيَand it isالوَحْيُthe second revelation.وَمَنْAnd whoeverصَرَفَdevotesإِلَيْهِمَاhimself to themعِنَايَتَهُwill find them sufficientاِكْتَفَىin themselvesبِهُمَاfrom others,وَهُمَاand bothيُرِيَانِكَshow youالْخَيْرَgoodوَالشَّرَّand evilوَأَسْبَابَهُمَاand their causes,حَتَّىuntilكَأَنَّكَit seems youتُعَايِنُare looking atذَٰلِكَthatعَيْانًاin person.
Then the Sunnah, for it is sisterly to the Quran and the second revelation. And whoever devotes himself to them will find them sufficient from others, and both show you good and evil and their causes, until it seems you are looking at that in person.
وَبَعْدَAnd afterذَٰلِكَthatإِذَاifتَأَمَّلْتَyou contemplateأَخْبَارَthe newsالأُمَمِof nationsوَأَيَّامَand daysاللَّٰهof Allahفِيinأَهْلِthe people ofطَاعَتِهِHis obedienceوَأَهْلِand the people ofمَعْصِيَتِهِHis disobedienceطَابَقَyou shall seeذَٰلِكَthatمَاwhatعَلِمْتَهُyou have learnedمِنَfromالْقُرْآنِthe Quranوَالسُّنَّةِand the Sunnah,وَرَأَيْتَand you seeتَفَاصِيلَthe details ofمَاwhatأَخْبَرَHe informedاللَّٰهAllahبِهِof,وَأَوَعَدَand promisedبِهِ Him,وَعَلِمْتَand you knowمِنْofآيَاتِهِHis signsفِيinالْآفَاقِthe horizonsمَاwhatيَدُلُّكَleads youعَلَىto
And after that, if you contemplate the news of the nations and the days of Allah in the people of His obedience and the people of His disobedience, you shall see that what you have learned from the Quran and the Sunnah matches the details of what Allah informed you of and promised you, and you know the signs of His in the horizons that lead you to.
