يَجْعَلُوهَاthey make itفِيinتِلْكَthatالمَسُوحِdraperies
They make it in those draperies.
وَيَخْرُجُand comes outمِنْهَاfrom itكَأَنَّتَنwith the foulestرَيْحٍsmellجِيْفَةٍof a corpseوُجِدَتْfoundعَلَىonوَجْهِthe faceالأَرْضِof the earth
And it comes out with the foulest smell of a corpse found on the face of the earth.
فَيَصْعَدُونَSo they ascendبِهَاwith itفَلَاand notيَمُرُّونَthey passبِهَاwith itعَلَىuponمَلَأٍa groupمِنَofالْمَلَائِكَةِangelsإِلَّاexceptقَالُواthey say:مَاwhatهَذَاis thisالرُّوحُspiritالْخَبِيثُwicked?
So they ascend with it, and they do not pass by a group of angels except that they say: "What is this wicked spirit?"
فَيَقُولُونَThey say:فُلَانٌSuch and suchابْنُson ofفُلَانٍSuch and such,بِأَقْبَحِwith the ugliestأَسْمَائِهِof his namesالَّتِيthatكَانَhe wasيُسَمَّىcalled by inبِهَاinالدُّنْيَاthe worldly life.
They say: "Such and such son of such and such, with the ugliest of his names that he was called by in the worldly life."
فَيُسْتَفْتَحُHe seeks to openفَلَاand notيُفَتَحُopened for him.
He seeks to open but it is not opened for him.
ثُمَّThenقَرَأَthe Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) recited:لَاNotنُفَتَحُwe will openلَهُمْfor themأَبْوَابُthe doors ofالسَّمَاءِthe heavenوَلَاand notيَدْخُلُونَthey will enterالْجَنَّةَthe paradiseحَتَّىuntilيَلِجَa camel goes throughالْجَمَلُthe needle'sفِي سَمِّin the eye of theالْخَيَّاطِtailor.
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) recited: "The doors of heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter paradise until a camel goes through the eye of a needle."
فَيَقُولُAnd Allah, exalted is He, says:اُكْتُبُواWriteكِتَابَهُhis bookفِيinسِجِّينَSijjinفِيinالأَرْضِthe earthالسَّفْلَىthe lowest.
And Allah, exalted is He, says: "Write his book in Sijjin in the lowest earth."
فَيُطْرَحُHis soul is thrownرُوحُهُhis spiritطَحًاdown.
His soul is thrown down.
ثُمَّThenقَرَأَhe recited:وَمَنAnd whoeverيُشْرِكْassociatesبِاللَّهِwith Allahفَكَأَنَّمَاthen surely likeخَرَّhe fellمِنَfromالسَّمَاءِthe skyفَتَخْطَفُهُand the birds pluck him upالطَّيْرُthe birdsأَوْorتَهْوِيthe wind blows him downبِهِwith himالرِّيحُthe windفِيinمَكَانٍa placeسَعِيقٍfar away.
Then he recited: "And whoever associates with Allah, then it is as if he has fallen from the sky, and the birds pluck him up or the wind blows him down in a faraway place."
فَتُعَادُThen his soul is returnedرُوحُهُhis spiritفِيinجَسَدِهِhis body,
Then his spirit is returned to his body,
وَيَأْتِيَانِهِand two angels come to himمَلَكَانِtwo angelsفَيَجْلِسَانِهِto sit him up,فَيَقُولَانِthey say to him:لَهُ:to him:مَنْWho isرَبُّكَ؟your Lord?
And two angels come to him and sit him up, and they say to him: "Who is your Lord?"
فَيَقُولُHe says:هَاهَUh, uh,هَاهَuh, uh,لَاI do not know.أَدْرِيI know.
He says: "Uh, uh... I do not know."
فَيَقُولَانِThey say to him:مَاWhat isدِينُكَ؟your religion?
They say to him: "What is your religion?"
فَيَقُولُHe says:هَاهَUh, uh,هَاهَuh, uh,لَاI do not know.أَدْرِيI know.
He says: "Uh, uh... I do not know."
فَيَقُولَانِThey say to him:مَاWhat isهَذَاthisالرَّجُلُmanالَّذِيwhoبُعِثَwas sentفِيكُمْ؟among you?
They say to him: "What is this man who was sent among you?"
فَيَقُولُHe says:هَاهَUh, uh,هَاهَuh, uh,لَاI do not know.أَدْرِيI know.
He says: "Uh, uh... I do not know."
فَيُنَادِيThen a caller callsمِنَfromالسَّمَاءِthe heavensأَنْthatكَذَبَMy servant lied,عَبْدِي،my servant,فَأَفْرِشُوهُso spread for himمِنَ النَّار،from the fire,وَأَلْبِسُوهُand clothe himمِنَ النَّار،from the fire,وَافْتَحُواand openلَهُfor himبَابًاa doorإِلَىtoالنَّارthe fireفَيَأْتِيهِand it comes to himمِنْfromحَرِّهَاits heatوَسَمُومِهَا،and its stench,وَيُضَيِّقُand his grave is made narrow,عَلَيْهِupon him,قَبْرُهُ،his grave,حَتَّىuntilتَخْتَلِفَhis ribs are crushed together.فِيهِin it.
Then a caller calls from the heavens, "My servant lied, so spread for him from the fire, and clothe him from the fire, and open for him a door to the fire, and it comes to him from its heat and stench, and his grave is made narrow upon him until his ribs are crushed together in it."
وَيَأْتِيَهُAnd there comes to himرَجُلٌa manقَبِيحٌuglyالْوَجْهِ،of face,قَبِيحٌuglyالثِّيَابِ،of garments,مُنْتِنٌfoul smellingالرِّيحِof the wind,فَيَقُولُ:and he says:أَبْشِرْRejoiceبِالَّذِيin whatيُسُوءُكَ!displeases you! هَذَاThis isيَوْمُكَyour dayالَّذِيwhichفَكَأَنَّتَنis the foulest.جِيْفَةً؟of a corpse?
And there comes to him a man, ugly of face and garments, with a foul smell, and he says: "Rejoice in what displeases you! This is your day, which is the foulest of a corpse?
