وَمَاAnd whatالَّذِيis it thatرَفَعَraisedقُرَىthe villagesاللُّوطِيَّةِof Lotحَتَّىuntilسَمِعَتِheardالْمَلَائِكَةُthe angelsنَبِيحَbarkingكِلاَبُهُمtheir dogsثُمَّthenقَلَبَهَاturned itعَلَيْهِمagainst them؟?فَجَعَلَSo madeعَالِيَهَاits high partsسَافِلَهَاits low partsفَأَهْلَكَتْهُمْand destroyed themجَمِيعًاall.
And what raised the villages of Lot until the angels heard the barking of their dogs? Then He turned them against them, so He made their high parts low and destroyed them all.
ثُمَّThenأَتْبَعَهُمْHe followed themحِجَارَةًstonesمِنَfromالسَّمَاءِthe skyأَمْطَرَهَاrained themعَلَيْهِمon them,فَجَمَعَand gatheredعَلَيْهِمupon themمِنَfromالْعَذَابِthe punishmentمَاwhatلَمnotيَجْمَعْهُgathered itعَلَىonأُمَّةٍa nationغَيْرِهِمother than them.
Then He followed them with stones from the sky, and gathered upon them from the punishment what He did not gather upon any other nation.
وَلِإِخْوَانِهِمAnd for their brothersأَمْثَالَهَاsimilarوَمَاAnd whatهِيَis itمِنَofالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoersبِبَعِيدٍfar!
And for their brothers are similar [punishments], and it is not far from the wrongdoers!
وَمَاAnd whatالَّذِيis it thatأَرْسَلَsentعَلَىuponقَوْمِthe peopleشُعَيْبٍof Shu'aybسُحُبًاa cloudمِنَofالْعَذَابِpunishmentكَالظُّلَلِlike the shadows,فَلَمَّاSo whenصَارَit becameفَوْقَaboveرُؤُوسِهِمtheir headsأَمْطَرَHe rainedعَلَيْهِمupon themنَارًاfireتَلَظَّىblazing?
And what is it that sent upon the people of Shu'ayb a cloud of punishment like shadows? So when it became above their heads, He rained upon them a blazing fire?
وَمَاAnd whatالَّذِيis it thatأَغْرَقَdrownedفِرْعَوْنَPharaohوَقَوْمَهُand his peopleفِيinالْبَحْرِthe sea,ثُمَّthenنُقِلَتْtheir souls were transportedأَرْوَاحُهُمْto the soulsإِلَىtoجَهَنَّمَHell.فَالْأَجْسَادُFor the bodiesلِلغَرَقِfor drowning,وَالْأَرْوَاحُand the soulsلِلْحَرِقِfor burning?
And what is it that drowned Pharaoh and his people in the sea, then their souls were transported to Hell? For the bodies are for drowning, and the souls are for burning?
وَمَاAnd whatالَّذِيis it thatخَسَفَsankبِقَارُونَKorahوَدَارَهُhis homeوَمَالَهُand his wealthوَأَهْلَهُand his family?
And what is it that sank Korah, his home, his wealth, and his family?
وَمَاAnd whatالَّذِيis it thatأَهْلَكَdestroyedالْقُرُونَthe generationsمِنْofبَعْدَafterنُوحٍNoahبِأَنْوَاعِwith typesالْعُقُوبَاتِof punishments,وَدَمَّرَهَاand destroyed themتَدْمِيرًاutterly?
And what is it that destroyed the generations after Noah with types of punishments, and utterly destroyed them?
وَمَاAnd whatالَّذِيis it thatأَهْلَكَdestroyedقَوْمَthe peopleصَاحِبِof the ownerيَسَYas?بِالصَّيْحَةِby the cryحَتَّىuntilخُمِدُواthey were extinguishedعَنْaboutآخِرِهِمtheir last?
And what is it that destroyed the people of the owner of Yas by the cry until they were extinguished?
وَمَاAnd whatالَّذِيis it thatبَعَثَsentعَلَىuponبَنِيthe sons ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelقَوْمًاa nationأُولِيof mightyبَأْسٍstrength,شَدِيدٍand severe,فَجَاسُواand they enteredخَلَالَbetweenالْدِّيَارِthe homesوَقَاتَلُواand killedالرِّجَالَthe menوَسَبُواand seizedالذُّرِّيَّةَthe offspringوَالْنِّسَاءَand the women,وَأَحْرَقُواand burnedالْدِّيَارَthe homesوَنَهَبُواand plunderedالْأَمْوَالَthe wealthثُمَّthenبَعَثَهُمْHe sent themعَلَيْهِمagainst themمَرَّةًonceثَانِيَةًagainفَأَهْلَكُواand they destroyedمَاwhateverقَدَرُواthey couldعَلَيْهon it,
And what is it that sent against the Children of Israel a nation of mighty strength, who entered between the homes, killed the men, seized the offspring and women, burned the homes, and plundered the wealth? Then He sent them against them once again, and they destroyed whatever they could.
