وَذَكَرَAnd mentionedالإِمَامَthe ImamأَحْمَدَAhmadمَالِكٌMalikابْنَbinدِينَارٍDinarقَالَhe saidكَانَthere wasحَبْرٌa scholarمِنَfromأَحْبَارِthe scholarsبَنِيof the children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelيَغْشَىwho frequentedمَنْزِلَهُhis houseالرِّجَالَthe menوَالنِّسَاءَand the womenفَيُعَظَّهُمْhe would admonish themوَيُذكِّرَهُمْand remind themبِأَيَّامِof the daysاللَّهِof Allah
And mentioned Imam Ahmad that Malik bin Dinar said there was a scholar from the scholars of the children of Israel who frequented his house, and he would admonish them and remind them of the days of Allah.
فَرَأَىSo he sawبَعْضَsomeبَنِيهِof his sonsيَوْمًاone dayيَغْمِزُmaking gestures towardsالنِّسَاءِthe womenفَقَالَso he saidمَهْلًاhold onيَاOبُنَيَّmy son
So he saw some of his sons one day making gestures towards the women, so he said, 'Hold on, O my son, hold on, O my son!'
فَسَقَطَSo he fellمِنْfromسَرِيرِهِhis bedفَانْقَطَعَand his spinal cord was severedنِخَاعُهُhis marrowوَأَسْقَطَتْand his wife abortedامْرَأَتُهُhis wifeوَقُتِلَتْand his sons were killedبُنُوهُhis sonsفَأَوْحَىSo Allah revealedاللَّهُAllahإِلَىtoنَبِيِّهِمtheir prophetأَنْtoأَخْبِرْinformفُلَانًاso-and-soالحَبرَthe scholarأَنِّيthat Iلَاdo notأُخْرِجَbring outمِنْfromصُلْبِكَyour loinsصَدِيقًاa friendأَبَدًاeverمَاwhatكَانَwasغَضَبُكَyour angerعَلَيَّtowards meإِلَّاexceptأَنْthatقُلْتَyou saidمَهْلًاhold onيَاOبُنَيَّmy sonمَهْلًاhold onيَاOبُنَيَّmy son
So he fell from his bed and his spinal cord was severed, and his wife aborted, and his sons were killed. So Allah revealed to their prophet to inform so-and-so the scholar that I do not bring out from your loins a friend ever. What caused your anger towards me was only that you said, 'Hold on, O my son, hold on, O my son!'
وَذَكَرَAnd mentionedالإِمَامَthe ImamأَحْمَدَAhmadمِنَfromحَدِيثِthe hadithعَبْدِاللَّهِAbdullahابْنَbinمَسْعُودٍMas'udأَنَّthatرَسُولَthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allahصَلَّىpeace be uponاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِhimوَسَلَّمَand salutationsقَالَsaidإِيَّاكُمْBewareوَمُحَقَّرَاتِand of the minorالذُّنُوبِsinsفَإِنَّهُنَّfor theyيَجْمَعْنَaccumulateعَلَىonالرَّجُلِa manحَتَّىuntilيُهْلِكُنَّهُthey destroy him.
And mentioned Imam Ahmad from the hadith of Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah, may peace and salutations be upon him, said: 'Beware of the minor sins, for they accumulate on a man until they destroy him.'
وَأَنَّAnd thatرَسُولَthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allahضَرَبَstruckلَهُمْfor themمَثَلًاan exampleكَمَثَلِlikeالْقَوْمِthe peopleنَزَلُواwho descendedأَرْضًاthe landفَلَاةًdesertedفَحَضَرَand their actions were presentصَنِيعَthe actionsالْقَوْمِof the peopleفَجَعَلَSo one manالرَّجُلُthe manيَنفُرُwent forthفَيَجِيءُand he broughtبِالْعُودِwith a stickوَالرَّجُلُand the manيَجِيءُcameبِالْعُودِwith a stickحَتَّىuntilجَمَعُواthey gatheredسُوَادًاa massوَأَجَّجُواand they ignitedنَارًاa fireوَأَنْضَجُواand they cookedمَاwhateverقَذَفُواthey threwفِيهَاin it
And that the Messenger of Allah struck for them an example like the people who descended on the land of a deserted place, and their actions were present, so one man went forth, and he brought a stick, and another man came with a stick until they gathered a mass and ignited a fire and cooked whatever they threw into it.
وَفِيAnd inصَحِيحِthe authenticالْبُخَارِيِّBukhariعَنْfromأَنَسٍAnasابْنِbinمَالِكٍMalikقَالَsaidإِنَّكُمْIndeed, youلَتَعْمَلُونَworkأَدَقَّmore subtleفِيinأَعْيُنِكُمْyour eyesمِنَthanالشَّعْرِa hairإِنَّIndeedكُنَّاwe wereلِنَعُدَّهَاto count itعَلَىduringعَهْدِthe timeرَسُولِof the Messengerاللَّهِof Allahأَعْمَالًاacts.
And in the authentic Bukhari from Anas bin Malik, he said: 'Indeed, you work more subtle in your eyes than a hair, indeed we used to count it as acts during the time of the Messenger of Allah.'
