وَمِنْهَاAnd from thatأَنْthatالمَعَاصِيsinsتُوهِنُweakenالقَلْبَthe heartوَالْبَدَنَand the body
And from that, the sins weaken the heart and the body.
أَمَّاAs forوَهْنِهَاits weakeningلِلْقَلْبِfor the heart,,فَأَمْرٌit is a matterظَاهِرٌclearبَلْratherلَا تَزَالُit continues toتُوهِنُهُweaken itحَتَّىuntilتُزِيلَit removesحَيَاتَهُits lifeبِالْكُلِّيَّةِcompletely.
As for its weakening for the heart, it is a clear matter, rather it continues to weaken it until it completely removes its life.
وَأَمَّاAnd as forوَهْنِهَاits weakeningلِلْبَدَنِfor the body,,فَإِنَّfor indeedالمُؤْمِنَthe believerقُوَّتَهُhis strengthمِنْis fromقَلْبِهِhis heart))،,وَكُلَّمَاand wheneverقَوِيَhis heart is strongقَلْبُهُhis heartقَوِيَbecomes strongبَدَنُهُhis body.
And as for its weakening for the body, indeed the believer's strength is from his heart; and whenever his heart is strong, his body becomes strong.
وَأَمَّاAnd as forالْفَاجِرِthe wicked(۳)(3),,فَإِنَّهُindeed heوَإِنand althoughكَانَhe isقَوِيًّاstrongالْبَدَنُin body,,فَهُوَhe isأَضْعَفُthe weakestشَيْءٍthingعِندَatالْحَاجَةِthe need,,فَتَخُونُهُthus his strength betrays himقُوَّتُهُhis strengthأَحْوَجَwhen he is most in needمَاof himself.يَكُونُto himself
And as for the wicked (3), indeed he, although he is strong in body, is the weakest thing at the time of need, thus his strength betrays him when he is most in need of himself.
وَتَأَمَّلْAnd considerقُوَّةَthe strengthأَبْدَانِof the bodiesفَارِسٍof the Persiansوَالرُّومِand the Romans,,كَيْفَhowخَانَتْهُمْbetrayed themأَحْوَجَwhen they were most in needمَاof theكَانُواthey wereإِلَيْهِمfor them(۳)(3)؛;وَقَهَرَهُمand overpowered themأَهْلَthe peopleالإِيمَانِof faithبِقُوَّةِby the strengthأَبْدَانِهِمof their bodiesوَقُلُوبِهِمand their hearts?
And consider the strength of the bodies of the Persians and the Romans, how they were betrayed when they were most in need of them (3); and how the people of faith overpowered them by the strength of their bodies and hearts?
وَمِنْهَاAnd from that::حِرْمَانُthe deprivationالطَّاعَةِof obedience.فَلَوْIfلَمْthere were notيَكُنْbeلِلذَّنْبِfor the sinعُقُوبَةٌa punishmentإِلَّاexceptأَنْthat it(4)(4)يَصُدُّpreventsعَنْfromطَاعَةٍobedienceتَكُونُthat isبِدَلِّهَاits substitute,,وَيَقْطَعُand cuts offطَرِيقَthe pathطَاعَةٍof obedienceأُخْرَىanother,,فَيَنْقَطِعُso it becomes severedعَلَيْهِfor him(٥)(5)طَرِيقٌthe pathثَالِثَةٌthe third,ثُمَّthenرَابِعَةٌthe fourth,,وَهَلُمَّ جَرًّاand so on.
And from that: the deprivation of obedience. If there were no punishment for the sin except that it prevents from a corresponding obedience, and cuts off the path of another obedience, then it becomes severed for him (5) the path of the third, then the fourth, and so on.
فَيَنْقَطِعُso becomes cut offعَلَيْهِfor him(٦)(6)بِالذَّنْبِby the sinطَاعَاتٌthe obediencesكَثِيرَةٌmany,كُلُّeach oneوَاحِدَةٌof themمِنْهَاis better than(۷)(7)خَيْرٌgood for himلَهُthan himمِنَfromالدُّنْيَاthe worldوَمَاand whatعَلَيْهَاis on it.
So it becomes cut off for him (6) by the sin from many obediences, each one of them (7) is better for him than the world and what is on it.
وَهَذَاAnd thisكَالرَّجُلِis like a manأَكَلَwho ateأَكْلَةًa mealأَوْorجَبَتْcaused him to sufferلَهُfromمَرَضَةًa long illness[٢٦/ب][26/b]طَوِيلَةًlongمَنَعَتْهُthat prevented himمِنْfromعِدَّةٍseveralأَكْلَاتٍmealsأَطْيَبَmore deliciousمِنْهَاthan it,,فَاللهُSo Allahالمُسْتَعَانُis the one to be sought for help.
And this is like a man who ate a meal or caused him to suffer from a long illness that prevented him from several more delicious meals than it; so Allah is the one to be sought for help.
