وَمِنْهَاAnd from them::أَنْthatالْمَعَاصِيَsinsتَقْصُرُshortenالْعُمْرَlife(۱)،,وَتَمْحَقُand eraseبَرَكَتَهَاits blessings, وَلَازِمَةً؛, and surely;فَإِنَّfor indeed(۲)الْبَرَكَةَthe blessingتَزِيدُincreasesفِيinالْعُمْرِ،life,فَالْفُجُورِso the immorality(٢)يَقْصُرُshortensالْعُمْرَlife..
And among them is that sins shorten life, erase its blessings, and surely; for indeed, blessings increase life, so immorality shortens life.
وَقَدAndاِخْتَلَفَdifferedالنَّاسُthe peopleفِيinهَذَاthisالْمَوْضِعِmatter.
And the people have differed in this matter.
فَقَالَتْSo a group said:طَائِفَةٌA sect::نَقْصَانَThe decreaseعُمْرِof lifeالْعَاصِيَthe sinnerهُوَisذَهَابُthe departureبَرَكَةِof blessingعُمُرِهِhis lifeوَمَحْقُهَاand its eraseعَلَيْهِ.upon him.وَهَذَاAnd thisحَقٌّ،is true,وَهُوَand it isبَعْضُsomeتَأْثِيرِof the effectالْمَعَاصِيَof sins...
So a group said: The decrease of the sinner's life is the departure of the blessing of his life and its erase upon him. And this is true, and it is some of the effect of sins.
وَقَالَتْAnd another group said:طَائِفَةٌA sect::بَلْRather,تُنَقِّصُهُit truly decreases him(4)حَقِيقَةً،in reality,كَمَاasيَنْقُصُit decreasesالرِّزْقَ.the provision.فَجَعَلَSo Allah madeاللَّهُGodسُبْحَانَهُexaltedلِلْبَرَكَةِfor blessingفِيinالرِّزْقِprovisionأَسْبَابًاcausesتُكَثِّرُهُthat increase it,وَتُزِيدُهُand add to itوَلِلْبَرَكَةِAnd for blessingفِيinالْعُمْرِlifeأَسْبَابًاthere are causesتُكَثِّرُهُthat increase itوَتُزِيدُهُ.and add to it.
And another group said: Rather, it decreases him in reality, as provision decreases. So Allah made, exalted, for blessing in provision causes that increase it and add to it. And for blessing in life, there are causes that increase it and add to it.
قَالُواThey said:وَلَاAnd does notيَمْتَنِعُpreventزِيَادَةِthe increaseالْعُمُرِof lifeبِأَسْبَابٍby causesكَماasيَنْقُصُit decreasesبِأَسْبَابٍ.by causes.
They said: And the increase of life does not prevent by causes just as it decreases by causes.
وَ الْأَرْزَاقُAnd provisions(٦)وَالْآجَالُ،and lifespans,وَ السَّعَادَةُand happinessوَ الشَّقَاءِand misery,وَ الصِّحَّةُand healthوَ الْمَرَضُ،and sickness,وَ الْغِنَىand wealthوَ الْفَقْرُ،and poverty,وَ إِنْand althoughكَانَتْthey wereبِقَضَاءِby the decreeالرَّبِّof the Lordعَزَّ وَجَلَّ،Glory be to Him,فَهُوَHeيَقْضِيdecreesمَاwhatيَشَاءُHe willsبِأَسْبَابٍby causesجَعَلَهَاthat He has madeمُوجِبَةًcausativeلْمُسَبِّبَاتِهَاfor its resultsمُقَتَضِيَةًand necessitating them.
And provisions, and lifespans, and happiness and misery, and health and sickness, and wealth and poverty, although they are by the decree of the Lord, Glory be to Him, He decrees what He wills by causes that He has made causative for their results and necessitating them.
وَقَالَتْAnd another group said:طَائِفَةٌA sect::تَأْثِيرُThe effectالْمَعَاصِيَof sinsفِيinمَحْقِthe erasureالْعُمْرِof lifeإِنَّمَاis onlyهُوَbyأَنْthat
And another group said: The effect of sins in the erasure of life is only by.
