لَاI do notأُحِبُّloveالنَّدِيمَthe companionيُومِضُwho winksبِالْعَيْنِwith the eye......إِذَاwhenمَاeverخَلَاhe is aloneبِعِرْسِwith the wife ofالنَّدِيمِthe companionوand

I do not love the companion who winks with his eye... whenever he is alone with the companion's wife.

حَدَّثَنِيnarrated to meصَدِيقٌa friendلِيof mineأَنَّهُthat heكَانَhadلَهُfor himصَدِيقٌa friendمَاتَتْdiedامْرَأَتُهُhis wifeوَخَلَّفَتْand left behindصَبِيًّاa boy

A friend of mine narrated to me that he had a friend whose wife died and left behind a boy,

وَكَانَand he hadلَهُfor himكَلْبٌa dogقَدْwhichرَبَّاهُhe raised

and he had a dog which he had raised.

فَتَرَكَSo he leftيَوْماًone dayوَلَدَهُhis sonفِيinالدَّارِthe houseمَعَwithالْكَلْبِthe dog

So one day he left his son in the house with the dog

وَخَرَجَand went outلِبَعْضِfor someالْحَوَائِجِerrands

and went out for some errands.

وَعَادَAnd he returnedبَعْدَafterسَاعَةٍan hourفَرَأَىand sawالْكَلْبَthe dogفِيinالدِّهْلِيزِthe hallway

And he returned after an hour and saw the dog in the hallway

وَهُوَwhile itمُلَوَّثٌwas stainedبِالدَّمِwith bloodوَجْهُهُits faceوَبَوْزُهُand its snoutكُلُّهُall of it

while its face and all its snout were stained with blood.

فَظَنَّSo thoughtالرَّجُلُthe manأَنَّهُthat itقَدْhadقَتَلَkilledابْنَهُhis sonوَأَكَلَهُand eaten him

So the man thought that it had killed his son and eaten him.

فَعَمَدَSo he headedإِلَىtowardsالْكَلْبِthe dogفَقَتَلَهُand killed itقَبْلَbeforeأَنْthatيَدْخُلَhe enteredالدَّارَthe house

So he headed towards the dog and killed it before entering the house.

ثُمَّThenدَخَلَhe enteredالدَّارَthe houseفَوَجَدَand foundالصَّبِيَّthe boyنَائِماًsleepingفِيinمَهْدِهِhis cradle

Then he entered the house and found the boy sleeping in his cradle

وَإِلَىand besideجَانِبِهِhimبَقِيَّةُthe remains ofأَفْعَىa snakeقَدْwhichقَتَلَهَاhad killed itالْكَلْبُthe dogوَأَكَلَand eatenبَعْضَهَاsome of it

and beside him was the remains of a snake which the dog had killed and eaten some of it.

فَنَدِمَSo regrettedالرَّجُلُthe manعَلَىoverقَتْلِهِkilling itأَشَدَّthe most severeنَدَامَةٍregretوَدَفَنَand buriedالْكَلْبَthe dog

So the man regretted killing it with the utmost regret and buried the dog.
