فَاسْتَقْبَلُوهُAnd they welcomed himوَهُوَand he isمُنْتَقِعٌdiscoloredاللَّوْنِin color

And they welcomed him, and he was discolored in color.

وَقَالَAnd Anas saidأَنَسٌAnasرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىthe Exalted

And Anas said, may Allah be pleased with him.

فَكُنْتُSo I wasأَرَىseeingأَثَرَthe traceالمُخَيْطِof the needleفِيinصَدْرِهِhis chest

So I was seeing the trace of the needle in his chest.

وَلَمْAnd he did notيَعْبُدْworshipالصَّنَمَthe idolوَلَمْand did notيُشْرِكْassociateبِاللَّهِwith Allahطَرْفَةَthe blinkعَيْنٍof an eyeقَطٌّeverيَعْنِيmeansقَبْلَbeforeالْنُّبُوَةِthe Prophethoodوَبَعْدَهَاand after it

And he did not worship the idol, nor did he associate anything with Allah for the blink of an eye ever, meaning before and after Prophethood.

لَأَنَّBecauseالْأَنْبِيَاءَthe Prophetsمَعْصُومُونَare infallibleعَنْfromالْجَهْلِignoranceبِاللَّهِof Allahتَعَالَىthe Exalted

Because the Prophets are infallible from ignorance of Allah the Exalted.

قَالَAli saidعَلِيٌّAliرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith him: قِيلَ: It was saidلِلنَّبِيِّto the Prophetعَلَيْهِpeace be upon himهَلْHaveعَبَدْتَyou worshippedوَثَنًاan idolقَطٌّever؟ قَالَ: He saidلَاNo

Ali said, may Allah be pleased with him: It was said to the Prophet, peace be upon him, 'Have you ever worshipped an idol?' He said: 'No.'

قَالُواThey saidهَلْHaveشَرِبْتَyou drunkخَمْرًاwineقَطٌّever؟ قَالَ: He saidلَاNo

They said, 'Have you ever drunk wine?' He said: 'No.'

وَمَا زِلْتُAnd I continuedأَعْرِفُto knowأَنَّthatالَّذِيwhatهُمْthey areعَلَيْهِon itكُفْرٌdisbeliefوَمَاand notكُنْتُI wasأَدْرَىawareمَاwhatالْكِتَابَthe bookوَلَاnorالإِيمَانَfaith

And I continued to know that what they are upon is disbelief, and I was not aware of what the book or faith was.

وَلَمْAnd he did notيَرْتَكِبْcommitصَغِيرَةًa small sinوَلَاnorكَبِيرَةًa major sin(قَطٌّ)(ever)يَعْنِيmeansقَبْلَbeforeالنُّبُوَةِthe Prophethoodوَبَعْدَهَاand after it

And he did not commit any small or major sin ever, meaning before and after Prophethood.

لَمَّاWhenفَرَغَfinishedالإِمَامُthe Imamالأَعْظَمُthe Greatestمِنْfromذِكْرِmentioningالْأَنْبِيَاءِthe Prophetsعَلَيْهِمُupon themالسَّلَامُpeace

When the Greatest Imam finished mentioning the Prophets, peace be upon them,

شَرَعَhe beganفِيinذِكْرِmentioningالْخُلَفَاءَthe Caliphsفَقَالَand he saidوَأَفْضَلُAnd the bestالنَّاسُpeopleبَعْدَafterالنَّبِيِّينَthe Prophetsعَلَيْهِمُupon themالصَّلَاةُthe prayersوَالسَّلَامُand peaceأَبُوAbuبَكْرٍBakrالصِّدِّيقُthe truthful

he began mentioning the Caliphs and said, 'And the best people after the Prophets, peace be upon them, is Abu Bakr the truthful.'

قَالَThe Prophet saidعَلَيْهِpeace be upon himمَاWhatطَلَعَتِroseالشَّمْسُthe sunوَلَاnorغَرَبَتْsetعَلَىonأَحَدٍanyoneمِنَofالنَّبِيِّينَthe Prophetsوَالْمُرْسَلِينَand the MessengersأَفْضَلُbetterمِنْthanأَبِيAbuبَكْرٍBakr

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, 'The sun has neither risen nor set upon anyone of the Prophets and Messengers better than Abu Bakr.'

وَرُوِيَAnd it was narratedأَنَّthatالنَّبِيُّthe Prophetلَمَّاwhenذَكَرَmentionedقِصَّةَthe storyالمِعْرَاجِof the Night Journeyكَذَّبُوهُthey denied himوَذَهَبُواand they wentإِلَىtoأَبِيAbuبَكْرٍBakr

And it was narrated that when the Prophet mentioned the story of the Night Journey, they denied him and went to Abu Bakr.

فَقَالُواSo they saidلَهُto himإِنَّIndeedصَاحِبَكَyour companionقَدْhasقَالَsaidكَيْفَhowوَقَالُواand they saidفَقَالَSo he saidأَبُو بَكْرٍAbu Bakr::إِنَّIndeedكَانَhe wasأَوَّلًاfirstمُؤْمِنًاbelieverقَبْلَbeforeأَنْthatيُشَكِّكَhe doubtsفِيinالَّذِيwhatيَقُولُhe saysصَاحِبَكَyour companionفَكَانَso he wasأَصْدَقُthe truthfulnessمِنَthanالإِيمَانِfaithوَرازِقًاand providingقَبْلَbeforeأَنْthatيَرْزُقَhe providesوَاللَّهُand Allahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedيَرَىseesفِيinالْآخِرَةِthe Hereafterوَيَرَاهُand sees himالْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believersوَهُمْand theyفِيinالْجَنَّةِParadiseبِأَعْيُنِهِمby their eyesرُؤُوسِهِمtheir headsبِلَاwithoutتَشْبِيهٍlikenessوَلَاnorكَيْفِيَّةٍhow

So they said to him, 'Indeed, your companion has said such and such', so Abu Bakr said: 'Indeed, he was a believer first before he doubts in what your companion says. So he was the truest of believers and providing before he provides. And Allah the Exalted sees in the Hereafter and sees him, and the believers see him with their eyes in Paradise without any likeness or how.'
