سَكْرَةُthe state of intoxicationالمَوْتِof deathبِالْحَقِّwith the truthذَلِكَthatمَاwhichكُنتَyou wereمِنْهُof itتَعِيدُyou returnوَنُفِخَand it was blownفِيinالصُّورِthe trumpetذَلِكَthatيَوْمُthe dayالْوَعِيدِof warning
The intoxication of death is indeed that which you were returning from. And it was blown in the trumpet; that is the day of warning.
وَجَاءَتْAnd cameكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍsoulمَعَهَاwith itسَابِقٌa predecessorوَشَهِيدٌand a witness
And every soul came with it a predecessor and a witness.
لَقَدْIndeedكُنتَyou wereفِيinغَفْلَةٍheedlessnessمِّنْofهَذَاthisفَكَشَفْنَاso we removedعَنكَfrom youغِطَاءَthe veilكَas
Indeed you were in heedlessness of this; so we removed from you the veil.
فَالْيَوْمَAnd today isالْيَوْمَthe dayحَدِيدٌof iron
And today is the day of iron.
إِلَىToآيَاتٍversesأُخَرَotherكَثِيرَةٍmanyتَدُلُّindicateعَلَىthatالْكُفَّارِthe disbelieversفِيinالْآخِرَةِthe Hereafter
To many other verses that indicate that the disbelievers in the Hereafter.
يَعْرِفُونَthey knowرَبَّهُمْtheir LordفَإِنْIfكَانَit wasمُجَرَّدَmereمَعْرِفَةًknowledgeإِيْمَانًاfaithكَانُواthey wereمُؤْمِنِينَbelieversفِيinالْآخِرَةِthe Hereafter
If mere knowledge was faith, they would have been believers in the Hereafter.
فَإِنْIfقَالُواthey saidالإِيْمَانُthe faithفِيinالْآخِرَةِthe Hereafterلَاdoes notيَنْفَعُbenefitوَإِنَّمَاbutالثَّوَابَthe rewardعَلَىforالإِيْمَانِthe faithفِيinالدُّنْيَاthe world
If they say: 'Faith in the Hereafter does not benefit, but the reward is for faith in the world.'
