ٱلْفَاتِحَةُThe Opening..

وَقَوْلُهُAnd His saying::(فَاعْبُدْهُ‘Worship Him,وَتَوَكَّلْand relyعَلَيْهِ﴾upon Him.'[هُود[Hud::١٢٣]123].

وَقَوْلُAnd the sayingنُوحٍ:of Noah:آنَ‘IndeedاعْبُدُواworshipٱللَّهَAllahوَٱتَّقُوهُand fear Him,وَأَطِيعُونِand obey me.')[نُوحٍ].)[Noah].

وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd likewiseإِذَاifأُفْرِدَmentionedاسْمُthe nameطَاعَةِof obedienceٱللَّهِto Allahدَخَلَتْit includesفِيinطَاعَتِهِHis obedienceكُلَّeverythingمَاthatأَمَرَHe commandedبِهِwith itوَكَانَتِand the obedienceطَاعَةُof obedienceٱلرَّسُولِthe MessengerدَاخِلَةًincludedفِيinطَاعَتِهِHis obedience.

وَكَذَاAnd likewiseاسْمُthe nameٱلتَّقْوَىٰof pietyإِذَاifأُفْرِدَmentionedدَخَلَتْit includesفِيهَاin itفِعْلَthe actionsكُلِّof everyمَأْمُورٍcommanded thingبِهِ،and the abandonment of every forbidden action.وَتَرْكِand leavingكُلِّeveryمَحْظُورٍforbidden action.

قَالَHe saidطَلَقٌTalqابْنُthe son ofحَبِيبٍHabib:ٱلتَّقْوَىٰPiety:أَنْis toتَعْمَلَactبِطَاعَةِin obedienceٱللَّهِto Allahعَلَىٰwithنُورٍlightمِنْfromٱللَّهِ،Allah,تَرْجُوhoping forرَحْمَةَMercyٱللَّهِ،of Allah,وَأَنْand toتَتْرُكَleaveمَعْصِيَةَdisobedienceٱللَّهِto AllahعَلَىٰwithنُورٍlightمِنْfromٱللَّهِAllahتَخَافَfearعَذَابَthe punishmentٱللَّهِ،of Allah,وَهَذَاand thisكَمَاis asفِيinقَوْلِهِHis saying:﴿إِنَّ‘Indeedٱلْمُتَّقِينَthe piousفِيare inجَنَّـٰتٍgardensوَنَهَرٍand riversفِيinمَقْعَدِa position ofصِدْقٍtruthعِندَwithمَلِيكٍa Kingمُقْتَدِرٍthe Powerful.'))[ٱلْقَمَرِ][Al-Qamar]

وَقَدْAnd it mayيُقْرَنَbe associatedبِهَاwith itاسْمٌthe nameآخَرُanotherكَـقَوْلِهِ:as in His saying:﴿وَمَن‘And whoeverيَتَّقِfearsٱللَّهَAllahيَجْعَلْHe will makeلَهُfor himمَخْرَجًاan exitوَيَرْزُقَهُand provide himمِنْfromحَيْثُwhereلَاnotيَحْتَسِبُhe expects.'وَمَنAnd whoeverيَتَوَكَّلْreliesعَلَىuponٱللَّهِAllahفَهُوَthen He isحَسْبُهُsufficient for him.'﴾‘[ٱلطَّلَاقِ][At-Talaq]وَقَوْلُهُAnd His saying:﴿إِنَّهُ‘Indeedمَنwhoeverيَتَّقِfearsوَيَصْبِرْand is patientفَإِنَّthen surelyٱللَّهَAllahلَاwill notيُضِيمُbe unjustأَجْرَto the rewardٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ)of the good-doers.'[يُوسُفَ:[Yusuf:٠٩٠]90].

وَقَوْلُهُ:And His saying:﴿وَٱتَّقُوا‘And fearٱللَّهَAllahٱلَّذِيthe One whoتَسَآءَلُونَyou askوَٱلْأَرْحَامُand the wombs.[ٱلنِّسَاءِ[An-Nisa::١]1].

وَقَوْلُهُAnd His saying:(اتَّقُوا‘FearٱللَّهَAllahوَقُولُواand sayقَوْلًاa good wordسَدِيدًاstraight.'﴾‘[ٱلْأَحْزَابِ:[Al-Ahzab:))٧٠]70].

وَقَوْلُهُAnd His saying:(اتَّقُوا‘FearٱللَّهَAllahوَكُونُواand beمَعَwithٱلصَّادِقِينَ)the truthful.'[ٱلتَّوْبَةِ[At-Tawbah::١١٩]119].

وَقَوْلُهُAnd His saying:(اتَّقُوا‘FearٱللَّهَAllahحَقَّas is His rightتُقَائِهِto fear Him,وَلَاand do notتَمُوتُنَّdie exceptإِلَّاinوَأَنتُمْa state ofمُّسْلِمُونَ)being Muslims.'[آلِعِمْرَانَ:[Al-Imran: 102]]

وَأَمْثَالُAnd similarذَٰلِكَto that.

فَقَوْلُهُSo His saying:(اتَّقُوا‘FearٱللَّهَAllahوَقُولُواand sayقَوْلًاa good wordسَدِيدًاstraight.'﴾‘[ٱلْأَحْزَابِ:[Al-Ahzab::٧٠]70].

مَثَلُIs likeقَوْلِهِ:His saying:عَامِنُوا‘Believeبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَرَسُولِهِ،and His Messenger,وَأَنفِقُواand spendمِمَّاfrom whatجَعَلَكُمْHe has made youتُسْتَخْلَفِينَsuccessors therein.'فِيهِ﴾‘In it.'[ٱلْحَدِيدِ:[Al-Hadid::٧]7].

وَقَوْلُهُAnd His saying:وَءَامَنَ‘And the Messenger believedٱلرَّسُولُthe Messengerبِمَاin whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْهِto himمِنْfromرَبِّهِhis Lordوَالْمُؤْمِنُونَand the believersكُلٌّallوَءَامَنُواand believeبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَمَلَائِكَتِهِ،and His angels,وَكُتُبِهِand His Books,وَرُسُلِهِand His Messengers;لَاnoنُفَرِّقُdistinction is madeبَيْنَbetweenأَحَدٍany oneمِّنofرُّسُلِهِ،His Messengers,وَقَالُواand they sayسَمِعْنَا‘We have heardوَأَطَعْنَاand we obeyed.غُفْرَانَكَGrant us forgiveness, O Lordرَبَّنَاour Lordوَإِلَيْكَand to Youالْمَصِيرُ﴾is the destination.'[ٱلْبَقَرَةِ][Al-Baqarah]

فَعَطَفَSo he joinedقَوْلَهُمْtheir sayingعَلَىtoٱلْإِيمَـانِfaithكَمَاjust asعَطَفَhe joinedٱلْقَوْلَthe good sayingٱلسَّدِيدَstraight sayingعَلَىtoٱلتَّقْوَىٰ،piety,وَمَعْلُومٌand it is knownأَنَّthatٱلتَّقْوَىٰpietyإِذَاifأُطْلِقَتْit is statedدَخَلَتْit includesفِيهَاin itٱلْقَوْلَthe good sayingٱلسَّدِيدَ،the straight saying,وَكَذَٰلِكَand likewiseٱلْإِيمَانُfaithإِذَاifأُطْلِقَit is mentionedدَخَلَتْit includesفِيهِin itٱلسَّمْعَhearingوَٱلطَّاعَةَand obedienceلِلَّهِto Allahوَلِلرَّسُولِ،and the Messenger.وَكَذَٰلِكَLikewiseقَوْلُهُHis saying:﴿عَامِنُوا‘Believeبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَرَسُولِهِ)and His Messenger.'[ٱلْحَدِيدِ:[Al-Hadid::٧]7].

وَإِذَاAnd ifأُطْلِقَتْthe faithٱلْإِيمَـانُis statedبِٱللَّهِin Allahفِيinحَقِّthe matter ofأُمَّةِthe nation ofمُحَمَّدٍMuhammad,دَخَلَتْit includesفِيin itٱلْإِيمَانَfaithبِٱلرَّسُولِ،in the Messenger,وَكَذَٰلِكَand likewiseقَوْلُهُHis saying:(كُلُّ‘Everyوَمَنand whoeverيُؤْمِنُbelieves in Allahوَمَلَايِكَتِهِ،and His angelsوَكُتُبِهِand His Booksوَرُسُلِهِand His Messengers.'﴾‘[ٱلْبَقَرَةِ:[Al-Baqarah::٢٨٥]285].

وَإِذَاAnd ifأُطْلِقَتْthe faithٱلْإِيمَانُin Allahبِٱللَّهِis mentionedدَخَلَتْit includesفِيin itٱلْإِيمَانَfaithبِهَٰذِهِin theseٱلتَّوَابِعِ،subsidiaries;وَكَذَٰلِكَand likewiseقَوْلُهُHis saying:(وَالَّذِينَ‘And those whoيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِمَاin whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْكَto youوَمَاand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedمِنْfromقَبْلِكَ)before you.'[ٱلْبَقَرَةِ[Al-Baqarah::٤]4].

وَقَوْلُهُ:And His saying:﴿قُولُوا‘Say,آمَنَّا‘We have believedبِٱللَّهِin Allahوَمَاand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْنَاto usوَمَاand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَىtoإِبْرَاهِيمَAbraham[ٱلْبَقَرَةِ:[Al-Baqarah::١٣٦]136].
