بِهِbyأَنَّهُمْthat theyيَعْلَمُونَknowمَاwhatفِيهِis in itوَيَعْمَلُونَand they act,,بِهِby itوَلِهَذَاand for thisصَارُواthey becameمُفْلِحِينَsuccessful
By knowing what is in it and acting upon it, they became successful, and for this reason.
وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseقَوْلَthe sayingأَهْلِof the peopleالْجَنَّةِof paradise::(الْحَمْدُ(Praiseلِلَّهِbe to Allahالَّذِيwhoهَدَانَاguided usلِهَذَاto this))[الأعراف:[Al-A'raf:۲]2]
And likewise, the saying of the people of paradise: "Praise be to Allah who guided us to this." [Al-A'raf: 2]
وَإِنَّمَاAnd indeedهَدَاهُمْHe guided themبِأَنby thatأَلْهَمَهُمْinspired themالْعِلْمَthe knowledgeالنَّافِعَbeneficialوَالْعَمَلَand the workالصَّالِحَrighteous
And indeed, He guided them by inspiring them with beneficial knowledge and righteous actions.
ثُمَّThenقَدindeedيُقْرَنُit may be associatedالْهُدَىguidanceإِمَّاeitherبِالِاجْتِبَاءِby selectionكَمَاasفِيinقَوْلِهِHis saying::﴿وَاجْتَبَيْتَهُمْ(And I have chosen them)وَهَدَيْنَاهُمْand guided themإِلَىtoصِرَاطٍa straight pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍ)(straight)[الأنعام:[Al-An'am:،,كَالأَيَّةِas in the verse::شَاكِرًاGratefulلِأَنْعُمِهِfor His blessingsاجْتَبَاهُHe has chosen himوَهَدَاهُ)and guided him) [An-Nahl: 121].
Then indeed it may be associated with selection as in His saying: "And I have chosen them and guided them to a straight path" [Al-An'am: ]. Like the referenced verse: "Grateful for His blessings, He has chosen and guided him" [An-Nahl: 121].
اللَّهُAllahيَجْتَبِيselectsإِلَيْهِto HimمَنْwhomeverيَشَاءُHe willsوَيَهْدِيand guidesإِلَيْهِto Himمَنْwhomeverيُنيبُrepents
Allah selects whomever He wills to Him and guides whomever He turns back.
وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseقَوْلَهُHis sayingتَعَالَىthe Exalted::﴿هُوَ(He is)الَّذِيthe One whoأَرْسَلَsentرَسُولَهُHis Messengerبِالْهُدَىwith guidanceوَدِينِand the religionالْحَقِّthe truth
And likewise, His saying, the Exalted: "He is the One who sent His Messenger with guidance and the true religion".
﴾( [الفتح:[Al-Fath:٢٨]28]))وَالْهُدَىAnd the guidanceهُنَاhereهُوَisالإِيمَانُfaith,,وَدِينٌand the religionالْحَقُّthe truthهُوَisالإِسْلَامُIslam.وَإِذَاAnd ifأُطْلِقَit is mentionedالْهُدَىguidanceكَانَit isكَالإِيمَانِlike the absolute faithالْمُطْلَقِthe absoluteيَدْخُلُit entersفِيهِin itهَذَاthisوَهَذَاand this.
And the guidance here is faith, and the true religion is Islam. And if guidance is mentioned, it is like the absolute faith, encompassing both this and that.
وَلَفْظُAnd the termالضَّلالِmisguidanceإِذَاifأُطْلِقَmentionedتَنَاوَلَit encompassesمِنْwhoeverضَلَّhas strayedعَنْfromالْهُدَىguidance,,سَوَاءٌwhetherكَانَit isعَمْدًاintentionallyأَوْorجَهْلًاignorantly,,وَلَزِمَand it is necessaryأَنْtoيَكُونَbeمُعَذَّبًاtormentedكَقَوْلِهِlike His saying
And the term misguidance, if mentioned, encompasses whoever has strayed from guidance, whether intentionally or ignorantly, and it is necessary for them to be tormented, like His saying.
إِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyأَلْفَوْاfoundآبَاءَهُمْtheir ancestorsصَالِحِينَrighteousفَهُمْSo theyعَلَىare uponآرَائِهِمْtheir tracks
Indeed, they found their ancestors righteous, so they are upon their tracks.
وَذَرَكَThey rushيُهْرَعُونَthey rush to them.]][الصَّافَّاتِ].[As-Saffat].
They rush to them.
وَقَوْلُهُ:And His saying:﴿وَقَالُوا(And they said)رَبَّنَاOur Lordإِنَّاindeed weأَطَعْنَاhave obeyedسَادَتَنَاour leadersوَكُبَرَاءَنَاand our chiefs,,فَأَضَلُّونَاso they led us astrayالسَّبِيلَthe way,,رَبَّنَاOur Lordوَآتِهِمْand give themضِعْفَيْنِdouble punishmentمِنَofالْعَذَابِthe punishmentوَالْعَنْهُمْand curse themلَعْنًاwith a great curse
And His saying: "Our Lord, indeed we have obeyed our leaders and our chiefs, so they led us astray from the way. Our Lord, give them double punishment of the punishment and curse them with a great curse."
وَقَوْلُهُ:And His saying:﴿فَمَنِ(So whoever)اتَّبَعَfollowsهُدَايَMy guidanceفَلَاthen he will notيَضِلَّgo astrayوَلَاand he will notيَشْقَى)suffer) [Ta-Ha: 123].
And His saying: "So whoever follows My guidance will not go astray and shall not suffer." [Ta-Ha: 123].
ثُمَّThenقَدindeedيُقْرَنُit may be associatedبِالْغَيْظِwith wrathأَوْorالْغَضَبِangerكَمَاasفِيinقَوْلِهِHis saying::﴿مَا(What)
Then indeed it may be associated with wrath or anger as in His saying:
ضَلَّstrayedصَاحِبُكُمْyour companionوَمَاand he has notغَوَى)gone astray) [An-Najm].وَفِيAnd inقَوْلِهِ:His saying:(غَيْرِ(Not ofالْمَغْضُوبِthose who have incurred angerعَلَيْهِمْupon themوَلَاand notالضَّالِّينَthe strayers)
"What, your companion has not strayed, nor has he gone astray" [An-Najm]. And in His saying: "Not of those who have incurred anger, nor of the strayers."
وَقَوْلُهُ:And His saying:﴿إِنَّIndeedالْمُجْرِمِينَthe criminalsفِيinضَلَالٍstrayingوَسُعُرٍand torment
And His saying: "Indeed, the criminals are in straying and torment."
[الْقَمَرِ][Al-Qamar].,,وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseلَفْظُthe termالْغَيِّstrayإِذَاifأُطْلِقَmentionedتَنَاوَلَit encompassesكُلَّeveryمَعْصِيَةٍdisobedienceاللَّهِof AllahكَمَاasفِيinقَوْلِهِHis saying
And likewise, the term 'stray', if mentioned, encompasses every disobedience to Allah as in His saying.
وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْAnd I will surely mislead them allأَجْمَعِينَall togetherإِلَّاexceptعِبَادَكَYour servantsمِنْهُمُfrom themالْمُخْلَصِينَthe sincere ones
"And I will surely mislead them all, except Your sincere servants from them."
وَقَدAnd indeedيُقْرَنُit may be associatedبِالضَّلاَلِwith misguidanceكَمَاasفِيinقَوْلِهِ:His saying:﴿مَا(What)
And it may also be associated with misguidance as in His saying:
ضَلَّstrayedصَاحِبُكُمْyour companionوَمَاand he has notعَوَى)called out) [An-Najm].وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseاسْمُthe nameالْفَقِيرُthe poorإِذَاifأُطْلِقَmentionedتَنَاوَلَencompassesفِيهُin itالْمِسْكِينُthe needy.وَإِذَاAnd ifأُطْلِقَthe term is mentionedلَفْظٌthe termالْمِسْكِينُthe needy,تَنَاوَلَit encompassesالْفَقِيرَthe poor.وَإِذَاAnd ifقُرِنَthey are contrastedبَيْنَهُمَاbetween them,,فَأَحَدُهُمَاone of themغَيْرُis different fromالْآخَرthe other
And likewise, the name 'poor', if mentioned, encompasses the needy. And if the term 'needy' is mentioned, it encompasses the poor. When they are contrasted, one is different from the other.
فَالأَوَّلُThe first oneكَقَوْلِهِ:is like His saying:﴿وَإِن(And ifتُخْفُوهَاyou conceal itوَتُؤْتُوهَاand give itالْفُقَرَاءَto the poor,,فَهُوَit isخَيْرٌbetterلَكُمْfor you.﴾([البقرة:[Al-Baqarah:۲۷۱]271]وَقَوْلُهُ:And His saying:﴿فَكَفَّرَتُهُ(And to atone for it)إِطْعَامُfeedingعَشَرَةًtenمَسَاكِينَ﴾needy." [Al-Ma'idah: 92].[المائدة:]
The first one is like His saying: "And if you conceal it and give it to the poor, it is better for you." [Al-Baqarah: 271]. And His saying: "And to atone for it, feeding ten needy." [Al-Ma'idah: 92].
الثَّانِيThe secondكَقَوْلِهِis like His saying:إِنَّمَاIndeedالصَّدَقَاتُthe charitiesلِلْفُقَرَاءِare for the poorوَالْمَسَاكِينِand the needy.))﴾([التوبة:[At-Tawbah:٦۰]60]
The second one is like His saying: "Indeed, the charities are for the poor and the needy." [At-Tawbah: 60].
