وَقَدْAndدَلَّpointedعَلىtoذَٰلِكَthatقَوْلُهُhis sayingتَعَالَىMost High::((يَحْذَرُThey fearالْمُنَافِقُونَthe hypocritesأَنْthatتُنَزَّلَbe revealedعَلَيْهِمْupon themسُورَةٌa chapterتُنَبِّئُهُمthat informs themبِمَاof whatفِيis inقُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsقُلْSayأَسْتَهْزِئُواmockedإِنَّIndeedاللَّهَGodمُخْرِجٌwill bring outمَاwhatتَحْذَرُونَyou fearوَلَئِنAnd ifسَأَلْتَهُمْyou ask themلَيَقُولُنَthey will surely sayإِنَّمَاIndeed, weكُنَّاwereنَخُوضُspeakingوَنَلْعَبُand playingقُلْSayأَبِاللَّهِIs it about Godوَمَا يَنَايِهِand His signsوَرَسُولِهِand His Messengerكُنْتُمْyou wereتَسْتَهْزِئُونَmockingلَاDo notتَعْتَذِرُواapologizeقَدْIndeedكَفَرْتُمْyou have disbelievedبَعْدَafterإِيمَانِكُمْyour beliefإِنIfنَعْفُwe pardonعَنْforطَائِفَةٍa groupمِّنكُمْfrom youنُعَذِّبْwe will punishطَائِفَةٌanother groupبِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyكَانُواwereمُجْرِمِينَcriminals﴾﴾[التوبة][At-Tawbah]فَقَدْIndeedأَخْبَرَHe informedأَنَّهُمْthat theyكَفَرُواdisbelievedبَعْدَafterإِيْمَانِهِمtheir beliefمَعَwhileقَوْلِهِمtheir saying::إِنَّاIndeed, weتَكَلَّمْنَاspokeبِالْكُفْرِof disbeliefمِنْwithoutغَيْرِanyاعْتِقَادٍbeliefلَهُin itبَلْbutكُنَّاwe wereنَخُوضُtalkingوَنَلْعَبُand playing،,وَبَيَّنَAnd clarifiedأَنَّthatالاِسْتِهْزَاءِmockingبِآيَاتِwith the versesاللَّهِof Allah،كَفْرٌis disbeliefوَلَاand cannot beيَكُونَisهَذَاthisإِلَّاexceptمِمَّنْfrom whomشُرِحَthe heartصَدْرُهُis openedبِهَذَاby thisالْكَلَامِspeech,,وَلَوْIfكَانَit wasالْإِيمَانُthe beliefفِيinقَلْبِهِhis heartمَنْعَwould prevent himأَنْtoيَتَكَلَّمَspeakبِهَذَاwith suchالْكَلَامِspeech(11)(11)وَالْقُرْآنُAnd the Quranيُبَيِّنُclarifiesأَنَّthatإِيمَانًاthe beliefالْقَلْبِof the heartيَسْتَلْزِمُnecessitatesالْعَمَلَthe actionالظَّاهِرِthat is apparentبِحَسَبِهِaccording to it،,كَقَوْلِهِAs His sayingتَعَالَىthe Most High::وَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayوَآمَنَّاAnd we believeبِاللَّهِin Godوَبِالرَّسُولِand in the Messengerوَأَطَعْنَاand we obeyedثُمَّThenيَتَوَلَّىturns awayفَرِيقٌa groupمِّنْهُمof themمِّنْafterبَعْدِthatذَٰلِكَwhichوَمَاAnd notأُولَـٰئِكَthose areبِالْمُؤْمِنِينَamong the believersوَإِذَاAnd whenدُعُواthey are calledإِلَىtoاللَّهِGodوَرَسُولِهِand His Messenger,,لِيَحْكُمَto judgeبَيْنَهُمْbetween themإِذَاifفَرِيقٌa groupمِّنْهُمof themمُّعْرِضُونَis avoidingوَإِنAnd ifيَكُنthere isلَهُمُfor themالْحَقُّthe truthيَأْتُواthey would comeإِلَيْهِto itمُذْعِنِينَsubmissivelyأَفِيIs there inقُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsمَّرَضٌa diseaseأَمِorارْتَابُواhave doubtsأَمْorيَخَافُونَdo they fearأَنْthatيَصِيفَthat God will punishاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِمْupon themوَرَسُولُهُand His MessengerبَلْButأَوْلَبَكَcertainly they areهُمُtheyالظَّالِمُونَthe wrongdoersإِنَّمَاIndeedكَانَwasقَوْلَthe sayingالْمُؤْمِنِينَof the believersإِذَاwhenدُعُواare calledإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllahوَرَسُولِهِand His Messengerلِيَحْكُمَto judgeبَيْنَكُمْamong youأَنْthatيَقُولُواthey should sayسَمِعْنَاWe heardوَأَطَعْنَاand we obeyedوَأُو۟لَـٰئِكَAnd those areهُمُtheyالْمُفْلِحُونَsuccessful﴾﴾[النور][An-Nur]فَنَفَىHe negatedالْإِيمَانَthe beliefعَمَّنْfrom those whoتَوَلَّىturn awayعَنْfromطَاعَةِthe obedienceالرَّسُولِto the Messenger،,وَأَخْبَرَand informedأَنَّthatالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersإِذَاifدُعُواcalledإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllahوَرَسُولِهِand His Messengerلِيَحْكُمَto judgeبَيْنَهُمْbetween themسَمِعُواthey listenedوَأَطَاعُواand obeyed,,فَبَيَّنَAnd it explainedأَنَّthatهَذَاthisمِنْis amongلَوَازِمِthe necessities ofالْإِيمَانِfaithفَصْلٌSectionفَإِنْIfقِيلَit is said::(فَإِذَا(So ifكَانَwasالْإِيمَانُthe beliefالْمُطْلَقُabsoluteيَتَنَاوَلُcomprisesجَمِيعَallمَاthatأَمَرَcommandsاللَّهُAllahبِهِwith itوَرَسُولَهُand His Messenger،,فَمَتَىwhenذَهَبَit goes awayبَعْضٌpartذَٰلِكَof thatبَطَلَinvalidatedالْإِيمَانُthe beliefفَيَلْزَمُthen it necessitatesتَكْفِيرَthe takfirأَهْلٍof the peopleالذُّنُوبِof sins,,كَمَاasتَقُولُهُthey claimالْخَوَارِجُthe Kharijitesأَوْorتَخْلِيدَهُمْeternal punishmentفِيinالنَّارِthe fireوَسَلْبِهِمْand stripping themاسْمَof the nameالْإِيمَانِof beliefبِالْكُلِّيَّةِentirelyكَمَاasتَقُولُهُthey claimالْمُعْتَزِلَةُthe Mu'tazilah،,وَكِلَاAnd bothهَذَيْنِof theseالْقَوْلَيْنِclaimsشَرٌّis worseمِنْthanقَوْلِthe sayingالْمُرْجِئَةِof the Murji’ah،,فَإِنَّForالْمُرْجِئَةُthe Murji’ahمِنْهُمْamong themجَمَاعَةٌa groupمِنْofالْعُلَمَاءِscholarsوَالْعِبَادِand the worshipersالْمَذْكُورِينَwho are mentionedعِندَamongالْأُمَّةِthe ummahبِخَيْرٍwith good,,وَأَمَّاAnd as forالْخَوَارِجُthe Kharijitesوَالْمُعْتَزِلَةُand the Mu'tazilah،,فَأَهْلُthe peopleالسُّنَّةِof the Sunnahوَالْجَمَاعَةِand the communityمِنْofجَمِيعِallالطَّوَائِفِthe factionsمُطْلِقُونَunanimousعَلَىonذَمِّهِمcondemnation of them
And this was indicated by His saying, "The hypocrites fear that a chapter will be revealed upon them that informs them of what is in their hearts. Say, 'Mock about Allah and His signs and His Messenger you were mocking.' Do not apologize; indeed, you have disbelieved after your belief. If we pardon a group from you, we will punish another group because they were criminals" [At-Tawbah]. Indeed, He informed that they disbelieved after their belief while saying, "Indeed, we spoke of disbelief without any belief in it, but we were talking and playing," and clarified that mocking the verses of Allah is disbelief, and this cannot be from anyone whose heart is not opened by this speech, and if belief were in his heart, it would prevent him from speaking like this.
وَالْقُرْآنُAnd the Quranيُبَيِّنُclarifiesأَنَّthatإِيمَانًاthe beliefالْقَلْبِof the heartيَسْتَلْزِمُnecessitatesالْعَمَلَthe actionالظَّاهِرِthat is apparentبِحَسَبِهِaccording to it,,كَقَوْلِهِAs His sayingتَعَالَىthe Most High::وَيَقُولُونَAnd they sayوَآمَنَّاAnd we believeبِاللَّهِin Godوَبِالرَّسُولِand in the Messengerوَأَطَعْنَاand we obeyedثُمَّThenيَتَوَلَّىturns awayفَرِيقٌa groupمِّنْهُمof themمِّنْafterبَعْدِthatذَٰلِكَwhichوَمَاAnd notأُولَـٰئِكَthose areبِالْمُؤْمِنِينَamong the believersوَإِذَاAnd whenدُعُواthey are calledإِلَىtoاللَّهِGodوَرَسُولِهِand His Messenger,,لِيَحْكُمَto judgeبَيْنَهُمْbetween themإِذَاifفَرِيقٌa groupمِّنْهُمof themمُّعْرِضُونَis avoidingوَإِنAnd ifيَكُنthere isلَهُمُfor themالْحَقُّthe truthيَأْتُواthey would comeإِلَيْهِto itمُذْعِنِينَsubmissivelyأَفِيIs there inقُلُوبِهِمtheir heartsمَّرَضٌa diseaseأَمِorارْتَابُواhave doubtsأَمْorيَخَافُونَdo they fearأَنْthatيَصِيفَthat God will punishاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِمْupon themوَرَسُولُهُand His MessengerبَلْButأَوْلَبَكَcertainly they areهُمُtheyالظَّلِمُونَthe wrongdoersإِنَّمَاIndeedكَانَwasقَوْلَthe sayingالْمُؤْمِنِينَof the believersإِذَاwhenدُعُواare calledإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllahوَرَسُولِهِand His Messengerلِيَحْكُمَto judgeبَيْنَكُمْamong youأَنْthatيَقُولُواthey should sayسَمِعْنَاWe heardوَأَطَعْنَاand we obeyedوَأُو۟لَـٰئِكَAnd those areهُمُtheyالْمُفْلِحُونَsuccessful﴾﴾[النور][An-Nur]فَنَفَىHe negatedالْإِيمَانَthe beliefعَمَّنْfrom those whoتَوَلَّىturn awayعَنْfromطَاعَةِthe obedienceالرَّسُولِto the Messenger،,وَأَخْبَرَand informedأَنَّthatالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersإِذَاifدُعُواcalledإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllahوَرَسُولِهِand His Messengerلِيَحْكُمَto judgeبَيْنَهُمْbetween themسَمِعُواthey listenedوَأَطَاعُواand obeyed,,فَبَيَّنَAnd it explainedأَنَّthatهَذَاthisمِنْis amongلَوَازِمِthe necessities ofالْإِيمَانِfaithفَصْلٌSectionفَإِنْIfقِيلَit is said::(فَإِذَا(So ifكَانَwasالْإِيمَانُthe beliefالْمُطْلَقُabsoluteيَتَنَاوَلُcomprisesجَمِيعَallمَاthatأَمَرَcommandsاللَّهُAllahبِهِwith itوَرَسُولَهُand His Messenger،,فَمَتَىwhenذَهَبَit goes awayبَعْضٌpartذَٰلِكَof thatبَطَلَinvalidatedالْإِيمَانُthe beliefفَيَلْزَمُthen it necessitatesتَكْفِيرَthe takfirأَهْلٍof the peopleالذُّنُوبِof sins,,كَمَاasتَقُولُهُthey claimالْخَوَارِجُthe Kharijitesأَوْorتَخْلِيدَهُمْeternal punishmentفِيinالنَّارِthe fireوَسَلْبِهِمْand stripping themاسْمَof the nameالْإِيمَانِof beliefبِالْكُلِّيَّةِentirelyكَمَاasتَقُولُهُthey claimالْمُعْتَزِلَةُthe Mu'tazilah،,وَكِلَاAnd bothهَذَيْنِof theseالْقَوْلَيْنِclaimsشَرٌّis worseمِنْthanقَوْلِthe sayingالْمُرْجِئَةِof the Murji’ah،,فَإِنَّForالْمُرْجِئَةُthe Murji’ahمِنْهُمْamong themجَمَاعَةٌa groupمِنْofالْعُلَمَاءِscholarsوَالْعِبَادِand the worshipersالْمَذْكُورِينَwho are mentionedعِندَamongالْأُمَّةِthe ummahبِخَيْرٍwith good,,وَأَمَّاAnd as forالْخَوَارِجُthe Kharijitesوَالْمُعْتَزِلَةُand the Mu'tazilah،,فَأَهْلُthe peopleالسُّنَّةِof the Sunnahوَالْجَمَاعَةِand the communityمِنْofجَمِيعِallالطَّوَائِفِthe factionsمُطْلِقُونَunanimousعَلَىonذَمِّهِمcondemnation of them
And the Quran clarifies that the belief of the heart necessitates the apparent action according to it, as His saying: "And they say, 'We believe in Allah and in the Messenger and we obey.' Then a group of them turns away after that, and those are not among the believers. And when they are called to Allah and His Messenger to rule between them, a group from them is averse. But if they had the right, they would come to it submissively. Is there in their hearts a disease, or have they doubted, or do they fear that Allah and His Messenger will punish them? But no; they are the wrongdoers. The believers' saying when called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them is, 'We heard and we obeyed.' And those are the successful" [An-Nur]. Thus, He negated faith from those who turned away from the obedience of the Messenger, and informed that the believers, if called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them, listened and obeyed, and clarified that this is among the necessities of faith.
