وَلَاand notيَكُونbeفِعْلٌactionاخْتِيَارِيٌّoptionalإِلَّاexceptبِإِرَادَةٍby will,,وَلِهَذَاand for thisقَالَsaidالنَّبِيُّthe Prophetﷺpeace be upon himفِيinالْحَدِيثِthe hadithالصَّحِيحِthe authentic::«أَحَبُّThe most belovedالْأَسْمَاءَnamesإِلَىtoاللَّهِGod::عَبْدُServantاللَّهِof GodوَandعَبْدُServantالرَّحْمَنِof the Most Merciful،,وَأَصْدَقُand the truestالْأَسْمَاءَnames::حَارِثٌHarithوَandهُمَامٌHammam،,وَأَقْبَحُهَاand the ugliest of them::حَرْبٌWarوَمَرَّةٌand Murr.. وَقَوْلُهُAnd his saying::أَصْدَقُthe truestالْأَسْمَاءَnamesحَارِثٌHarithوَهُمَامٌand Hammam،,لِأَنَّbecauseكُلَّeveryإِنْسَانٍhumanهُمَامٌHammamحَارِثٌHarith،,وَالْحَارِثُand the Harith::الْكَاسِبُthe earnerالْعَامِلُthe worker,,وَالْهُمَامُand the Hammamالْكَثِيرُthe manyالْهُمُّمُconcerns––وَهُوَand he isمَبْدَأُthe sourceالإِرَادَةِof the willـ–وَهُوَand he isحَيَوَانٌanimal,,وَكُلُّand everyحَيَوَانٍanimalحَسَّاسٌsensitiveمُتَحَرِّكٌmovingبِالإِرَادَةِby will,,فَإِذَاso ifفَعَلَhe doesشَيْئًاsomethingمِنْofالْمُبَاحَاتِthe permissible,,فَلَاthere is noبَدٌّdoubtلَهُfor himمِنْofغَايَةٍan aimيَنْتَهِيhe endsإِلَيْهَاto itقَصْدُهُhis intention,,وَكُلُّand everyمَقْصُودٍintentionإِمَّاeitherأَنْtoيَقْصِدَaimsلِنَفْسِهِfor himself,,وَإِمَّاorأَنْtoيَقْصِدَaimsلِغَيْرِهِfor others.. فَإِنْIfكَانَwasمُنْتَهَىthe endمَقْصُودِهof his intentionوَمُرَادَهُand his desireعِبَادَةَworshipاللَّهِGodوَحْدَهُaloneلَاnoشَرِيكَpartnerلَهُfor Him,,وَهُوَand He isإِلَٰهِهِhis Godالَّذِيwhomيَعْبُدُهُhe worshipsلَاnotيَعْبُدُworshipsشَيْئًاanythingسِوَىٰهُelse,,وَهُوَand He isأَحَبُّmost belovedإِلَيْهِto himمِنْthanكُلِّallمَاthatسِوَىٰهُelse,,فَإِنَّforإِرَادَتُهُhis willتَنْتَهِيendsإِلَىtoإِرَادَتِهِhis willوَجْهِfaceاللَّهِGod,,فَيُثَابَhe is rewardedعَلَىforمُبَاحَاتِهِhis permissible actionsالَّتِيthatيَقْصِدُhe intendsالِاسْتِعَانَةَto seek assistanceبِهَاwith itعَلَىtoالطَّاعَةِobedience.. كَمَاAsفِيinالصَّحِيحَيْنِthe two authentic booksعَنْaboutالنَّبِيِّthe Prophetأَنَّهُthat heقَالَsaid::نَفَقَةُthe expenditureالرَّجُلِof the manعَلَىonأَهْلِهِhis familyيَحْتَسِبُهَاhe reckons itصَدَقَةٌas charity»"وَفِيAnd inالصَّحِيحَيْنِthe two authentic booksعَنْهُfrom himأَنَّهُthat heقَالَsaidلِسَعْدٍto Sa'dبْنِbinأَبِيAbuوَقَّاصٍWaqasلَمَّاwhenمَرِضَhe fell illبِمَكَّةَin Meccaوَعَادَهُand visited him::«إِنَّكَ"Indeed youلَنwill notتُنْفِقَspendنَفَقَةًan expenditureتَبْتَغِيyou seekبِهَاwith itوَجْهَthe faceاللَّهِof Godإِلَّاexceptازْدَدْتَyou will increaseبِهَاwith itدَرَجَةًa rank,,وَرَفْعَةًand elevation,,حَتَّىevenاللُّقْمَةَthe morselتَرْفَعُهَاyou lift itإِلَىtoفِيtheمِرَأَتِكَwoman of yours».".وَقَالَAnd he saidمُعَاذٌMu’adhبْنِbinجَبَلٍJabalلِأَبِيto AbuمُوسَىMusaإِنِّيIndeed Iأَحْتَسِبُreckonنَوْمَتِيmy sleepكَمَاasأَحْتَسِبُI reckonقَوْمَتِيmy wakefulness,,وَفِيAnd inالْأَثَرِthe narration::نَوْمُThe sleepالْعَالِمِof the scholarتَسْبِيحٌis glorification(1)(1)وَإِنْAnd ifكَانَwasأَصْلُthe originمَقْصُودِهof his intentionعِبَادَةًthe worshipغَيْرَother thanاللَّهِGodلَمnotتَكُنbeالطَّيِّبَاتُthe pure thingsمُبَاحَةًlawfulلَهُfor him,,فَإِنَّfor indeedاللَّهَGodأَبَاحَهَاhas permitted itلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersمِنْfromعِبَادَةِهِHis servantsبَلْbutالْكَفَّارَthe disbelieversوَأَهْلَand the people ofالْجَرَائِمِthe crimesوَالذنُوبِand sinsوَأَهْلَand the people ofالشَّهَوَاتِthe desires,,يُحَاسَبُونَthey will be held accountableيَوْمَon the Dayالْقِيَامَةِof Resurrectionعَلَىforالنِّعَمِthe blessingsالَّتِيthatتَنَعَّمُواthey enjoyedبِهَاthemفَلَمso did notيَذْكُرُوهُmention Himوَلَمand did notيَعْبُدُوهُworship Himبِهَاwith them,,وَيُقَالُand it is saidلَهُمْto them::أَذَهَبْتُمْYou have squanderedطَيِّبَتَكُمْyour good thingsفِيinحَيَاتِكُمُyour worldly lifeالدُّنْيَاthe worldوَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْand you enjoyedبِهَاwith them,,فَالْيَوْمَso todayتُجْزَوْنَyou will be recompensedعَذَابَwith the punishmentالْهُونِof disgraceبِمَاfor whatكُنتُمْyou wereتَسْتَكْبِرُونَarrogantفِيinالْأَرْضِthe earthبِغَيْرِwithoutالْحَقِّjusticeوَبِمَاand for whatكُنتُمْyou wereنَفْسُقُونَfoolish
And you have indulged in your good things in your worldly life and you enjoyed them; so today you will be recompensed with the punishment of disgrace for what you were arrogant on earth without due right and for what you were foolish.
قَالَsaidتَعَالَىHe said::وَتُمَّAnd certainlyلَتُسْلَنَّyou will be questionedيَوْمَon the Dayعَنِْaboutالنَّعِيمِthe blessings﴾(التَّكَاثُرِAl-Takathur﴿)أَيNamelyعَنْaboutشُكْرِهِgiving thanks,,وَالْكَافِرُand the disbelieverلَمdid notيَشْكُرْthankعَلَىforالنِّعْمَةِthe blessingالَّتِيthatأَنْعَمَbestowedاللَّهُGodعَلَيْهِon himبِهَاwith itفَيُعَاقَبُهُhe will be punishedعَلَىforذَلِكَthat,,وَاللَّهُand Godإِنَّمَاonlyأَبَاحَهَاpermitted it(۱)(1)وَرُوِيَand it has been narratedمَرْفُوعًاas raisedبِالْلَّفْظِwith the wording::نَوْمُsleepالصَّائِمِof the fasting one»"وَهُوَand it isضَعِيفٌweak
And you will undoubtedly be questioned on the Day about the blessings — namely about giving thanks; and the disbeliever did not thank for the blessing that God bestowed upon him — he shall be punished for that; and God only permitted it.
