أَخْرَتَهُمْHe delayed themلِأُولَنَهُمْfor their firstرَبَّنَاOur Lordهَؤُلَاءِtheseأَضَلُّونَاhave misled usفَئَاتِهِمْthen give themعَذَابًاa punishmentضِعْفًاdoubleمِنَ النَّارِfrom the fireقَالَHe saidلِكُلِّfor everyضِعْفٌdouble punishmentوَلَكِنbutلَاnotتَعْلَمُونَyou know
He delayed them for their first misguidance. Our Lord, these have misled us. Then give them a double punishment from the fire. He said, 'For every one is a double punishment, but you do not know.'
وَقَالَتْAnd it saidأُولَنَهُمْtheseلِأُخْرَتَهُمْfor their hereafterفَمَاso whatكَانَwasلَكُمْto youعَلَيْنَاupon usمِنofفَضْلٍfavorفَذُوقُواso tasteالْعَذَابَthe punishmentبِمَاfor whatكُنتُمْyou wereتَكْسِبُونَearning
And it said, 'These were for their hereafter. So what was there for you upon us of favor? So taste the punishment for what you used to earn.'
وَإِذْAnd whenيَتَحَاجُّونَthey disputeفِيinالنَّارِthe Fireفَيَقُولُthen sayالضُّعَفَتَوُاthe weakلِلَّذِينَto those whoاسْتَكْبَرُواwere arrogantإِنَّاIndeed, weكُنَّاwe wereلَكُمْto youتَبَعًاfollowersفَهَلْso willأَنتُمْyouمُّعْنُونَrelieve usعَنَّاfrom usنَصِيبًاa portionمِّنَofالنَّارِthe Fire
And when they dispute in the Fire, the weak will say to those who were arrogant, 'Indeed, we were your followers, so will you relieve us from a portion of the Fire?'
قَالَHe saidالَّذِينَthose whoاسْتَكْبَرُواwere arrogantإِنَّاIndeed, weكُلَّare allفِيهَاin itإِنَّIndeedاللهGodقدhasحكمjudgedبينbetweenالعبادthe servants
Those who were arrogant will say, 'Indeed, we are all in it. Indeed, God has judged between the servants.'
وَلَوْAnd ifتَرَىyou seeإِذِwhenالظَّلِمُونَthe wrongdoersمَوْقُوفُونَare standingعِندَbeforeرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordبَعْضُهُمْsome of themإِلَىtoبَعْضِsomeالْقَوْلَsayingيَقُولُsayingالَّذِينَthose whoاسْتُضْعِفُواwere oppressedلِلَّذِينَto those whoاسْتَكْبَرُواwere arrogantلَوْلَاif not forأَنتُمْyouلَكُناwe would have beenمُؤْمِنِينَbelievers
And if you could see when the wrongdoers are standing before their Lord, some of them will be telling to others, 'If not for you, we would have been believers.'
قَالَHe saidالَّذِينَthose whoاسْتَكْبَرُواwere arrogantلِلَّذِينَto those whoاسْتُضْعِفُواwere oppressedأَنَحْنُAre weصَدَدْتَكُمْresponsible for preventing youعَنِfromالْهُدَىthe guidanceبَعْدَafterإِذْwhenجَاءَcameكُرto youبَلratherكُنتُمyou wereتُجرِمِينَcommitting sins
Those who were arrogant will say to those who were oppressed, 'Are we responsible for preventing you from the guidance after it came to you? Rather, you were committing sins.'
وَقَالَAnd it saidالَّذِينَthose whoاسْتُضْعِفُواwere oppressedلِلَّذِينَto those whoاسْتَكْبَرُواwere arrogantبَلْratherمَكْرُthe plotsالَّيْلِof the nightوَالنَّهَارِand the dayإِذْwhenتَأْمُرُونَنَاyou commanded usأَنtoنَّكْفَرَrejectبِاللهِin Godوَنَجْعَلَand we makeلَهُfor Himأَندَادًاpartnersوَأَسَرُّواand they concealedالنَّدَامَةَthe regretلَمَّاwhenرَأَوُاthey sawالْعَذَابَthe punishmentوَجَعَلْنَاand we placedالْأَخْلَالَthe shacklesفِيinأَعْنَاقِthe necksالَّذِينَof those whoكَفَرُواdisbelievedهَلْIs itيُجْزَوْنَthey rewardedإِلَّاexceptمَاfor whatكَانُواthey have doneيَعْمَلُونَthey used to do
And those who were oppressed will say to those who were arrogant, 'Rather, the plots of the night and the day when you commanded us to reject God and make partners for Him, and they concealed the regret when they saw the punishment. And we placed the shackles in the necks of those who disbelieved. Is it that they are rewarded except for what they used to do?'
وَقَالَAnd it saidفِيinسياقthe contextالآيةof the verseإِنَّهُمْIndeed theyكَانُواwereإِذَاwhenقِيلَit was saidلَهُمْto themلَاnotإِلَهَa deityإِلَّاexceptاللهُGodيَسْتَكْبِرُونَthey were arrogant
And it said in the context of the verse, 'Indeed they were when it was said to them, 'There is no deity except God,' they were arrogant.
