لِلْأَمْوَالِ،for the wealth,وَقَدْandبَيْنَهَاexplained itالنَّبِيُّthe Prophetﷺ(peace be upon him),وَقَدْandذَكَرَmentionedاللَّهُAllahأَنْthatذَٰلِكَthatشِرْكٌis polytheismبِقَوْلِهِ:with His saying:لَاThere is noإِلَٰهَdeityإِلَّاexceptسُبْحَانَهُHis glorificationعَمَّabout whatيُشْرِكُونَthey associate.
For the wealth, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) explained it, and Allah mentioned that this is polytheism with His saying: 'There is no deity except His glorification about what they associate.'
فَهَذَاThis isمِنَfromالظُّلْمِthe oppressionالَّذِيthatيَدْخُلُentersفِيintoقَوْلِهِ:His saying:وَاحْشُرُواAnd gatherالَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُواhave wrongedوَأَزْوَاجَهُمْand their spousesوَمَاand whatكَانُواthey used toيَعْبُدُونَworshipمِنْfromدُونِbesidesاللَّهِAllah.
This is from the oppression that enters into His saying: 'And gather those who have wronged and their spouses and what they used to worship besides Allah.'
فَإِنَّIndeed,هَـٰئُولَاءِtheseوَالَّذِينَand those whoأَمَرُوهُمْcommanded themبِهَـٰذَاwith thisهُمْare allجَمِيعًاtogetherمُعَذَّبُونَ،punished.وَقَالَ:And He said:إِنَّكُمْIndeed youوَمَاand whatتَعْبُدُونَyou worshipمِنْfromدُونِbesidesاللَّهِAllahحَصَبُis fuel forجَهَنَّمَ،Hell;
Indeed, these and those who commanded them with this are all punished. And He said: ‘Indeed you and what you worship besides Allah is fuel for Hell; you are to enter it.’
وَإِنَّمَاAnd onlyيَخْرُجُexitsمِنْfromهَذَاwhoعَبَدَworshipedمَعَwhileكَرَاهَتِهِdisliking itلِأَنَّهُbecauseيُعْبَدُto be worshipedوَيُطَاعُand be obeyedفِيin theمَعْصِيَةِdisobedienceاللَّهِ،to Allah,فَهُمْthey areالَّذِينَthose whoسَبَقَتْprecededلَهُمُfor themالْحُسْنَىthe good rewardكَالْمَسِيحِlike the Messiahوَالْعُزَيْرِand Ezraوَغَيْرِهِمَا،and others,فَأُولَـٰئِكَfor those areمُبْعَدُونَ.taken far away.
And only those who worship while disliking it to be worshiped and obeyed in disobedience to Allah, they are the ones for whom the good reward has preceded, like the Messiah, Ezra, and others; for those are taken far away.
وَأَمَّاAnd as forمَنْwhoرَضِيَis pleasedبِأَنْthatيُعْبَدَhe is worshipedوَيُطَاعَand obeyedفِيin theمَعْصِيَةِdisobedienceاللَّهِof Allahفَهُوَhe isمُسْتَحِقٌّworthyلِلْوَعِيدِ،of warning,وَلَوْeven ifلَمْhe did notيَأْمُرْcommandبِذَٰلِكَ،with this,فَكَيْفَso howإِذَاifأَمَرَhe commanded?!!
And as for whoever is pleased that he is worshiped and obeyed in disobedience to Allah, he is worthy of warning, even if he did not command that, so how if he commanded?!
وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd likewiseمَنْwhoeverأَمَرَcommandsغَيْرَهُothersبِأَنْto worshipيُعْبَدَworshipغَيْرَother thanاللَّهِ،Allah,وَهَذَاand thisمِنْis fromأَزْوَاجِهِمْ،their spouses,فَإِنَّfor indeedأَزْوَاجَهُمْtheir spousesقَدْmayيَكُونُونَbeأَتْبَاعًاfollowersوَهُمْand they areأَزْوَاجٌspousesوَأَشْبَاهٌand similarلِتَشَابُهِهِمْfor their similarityفِيin theالدِّينِreligionوَسِيَاقِand the contextالْآيَةِof the verseيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىthat,فَإِنَّهُfor Heسُبْحَانَهُis glorifiedقَالَ:said:احْشُرُوا‘Gatherالَّذِينَthose whoظَلَمُواhave wrongedوَأَزْوَاجَهُمْand their spousesوَمَاand whatكَانُواthey used toيَعْبُدُونَworshipمِنْfromدُونِbesidesاللَّهِAllah.فَاهْدُوهُمْSo guide themإِلَىtoصِرَاطِthe pathالْجَحِيمِ.'of Hell.’
And likewise, whoever commands others to worship other than Allah, and this is from their spouses, for indeed their spouses may be followers and they are spouses and similar because of their similarity in religion, and the context of the verse indicates that, for indeed He, may He be glorified, said: 'Gather those who have wronged and their spouses and what they used to worship besides Allah. So guide them to the path of Hell.'
قَالَHe saidابْنُIbnعَبَّاسٍAbbasدُلُّوهُمْ‘Pull themوَقَالَAnd saidالضَّحَّاكُAl-Dahhakمِثْلَهُ،similar to him.وَقَالَAnd saidابْنُIbnكَيْسَانَ:Kaysan:قَدِّمُوهُمْ،‘Bring them forward,وَالْمَعْنَى:and the meaning is:قُودُوهُمْ‘Lead themكَمَاjust asيَقُودُthe guide leadsالْهَادِيthe guidedلِمَنْto whomيَهْدِيهِ،he guides.وَلِهَذَاAnd for this reasonتُسَمَّىthey are calledالْأَعْناقُthe necksالْهُوَادِي،the guides,لِأَنَّهَاbecause theyتَقُودُleadسَائِرَallالْبَدَنِthe bodyوَتُسَمَّىand they are calledأَوَّائِلُthe forepartsالْوَحْشِof the beastsالْهُوَادِيِّthe guiding.
He said Ibn Abbas: ‘Pull them’ and Al-Dahhak said similarly. And Ibn Kaysan said: ‘Bring them forward,’ and the meaning is: ‘Lead them just as the guide leads the guided to whom he guides, and for this reason they are called the necks, the guides, because they lead all of the body, and they are called the foreparts of the beasts the guiding.
وَقِفُوهُمْAnd stop themإِنَّهُمْIndeed theyمَسْئُولُونَare questionedمَاabout whatلَكُمْto youلَاthere is noنَاصِرُونَhelper.
And stop them; indeed they are questioned about what is to you, there is no helper.
أَيُّAs toكَمَاjust asكُنتُمْyou wereتَتَنَاصَرُونَhelping one anotherفِيin theالدُّنْيَاworldعَلَىagainstالْبَاطِلِ.falsehood.بَلْRatherهُمْthey areالْيَوْمَtodayمُسْتَسْلِمُونَsubmissiveوَأَقْبَلَand some of themبَعْضُهُمْto one anotherعَلَىtoبَعْضٍone anotherيَتَسَاءَلُونَ،are questioning,
As to how you were helping one another in the world against falsehood, but they are today submissive and some of them to one another are questioning.
قَالُواThey said,إِنَّكُمْIndeed youكُنتُمْwereتَأْتُونَنَاcoming to usعَنِfromالْيَمِينِ،the right side,قَالُواthey said,بَلbutلَمْdid notتَكُونُواyou all beمُؤْمِنِينَ،believers,
They said, ‘Indeed, you were coming to us from the right side,’ they said, ‘but you did not be believers.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasلَنَاfor usعَلَيْكُمْagainst youمِنْofسُلْطَانٍauthorityبَلْbutكُنتُمْyou wereقَوْمًاa peopleطَفِينًا،drowned,
And what was for us against you of authority, but you were a people drowned.
فَحَقَّSo the truthعَلَيْنَاis upon usقَوْلُthe saying ofرَبِّنا:our Lord:إِنَّاIndeed weلَذَاقُونَare to taste punishment.
So the truth is upon us the saying of our Lord: ‘Indeed we are to taste punishment.
فَأَغْوَيْنَكُمْSo we led you astrayإِنَّاIndeed weكُنَّاwereغَارِينَ،misled,
So we led you astray; indeed, we were misled.
فَإِنَّهُمْSo indeed theyيَوْمَئِذٍthat dayفِيinالْعَذَابِthe punishmentمُشْتَرِكُونَ،are sharing,
So indeed they are sharing in punishment that day.
إِنَّهُمْIndeed theyكَانُواwereإِذَاifقِيلَit was saidلَهُمْto themلَاthere is noإِلَٰهَdeityإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllahيَسْتَكْبِرُونَthey would be arrogantوَيَقُولُونَand they would sayأَبِٱنَّا‘Is it reallyلَتَارِكُواto leaveوَالِهَتِنَاour godsلِشَاعِرٍ؟for a poet?
Indeed they were if it was said to them, ‘There is no deity except Allah,’ they would be arrogant and they would say, ‘Is it really to leave our gods for a poet?
وَقَالَAnd saidتَعَالَى:The Exalted said:﴿قَالَ‘He said:ادْخُلُواEnterفِيintoأُمَمٍa matterقَدْthat hasخَلَتْpassedمِنْfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youمِنَfrom theمَجْمُومَةِthe groupالْجِنِّof the jinnوَالْإِنسِand mankindفِيinالنَّارِ،the Fire;كُلَّمَاwheneverدَخَلَتْa group entersأُمَّةٌa communityلَعَنَتْcursesأَخْنَهَاits sisterحَتَّىuntilإِذَاwhenأَدَارَكُواthey all enteredفِيهاinto itجَمِيعًاall togetherقَالَتْshe said:يَا‘Oرَبَّنَاour Lord,هَـٰؤُلَاءِtheseأَكْثَرُونَاare more than us,فَلَاso do notتَنْقُصُواreduce our punishment.
And the Exalted said: ‘He said, ‘Enter into a matter that has passed from before you from the group of the jinn and mankind in the Fire; whenever a group enters, it curses its sister until when they all entered into it together, she said: ‘O our Lord, these are more than us, so do not reduce our punishment.
