طَرِيقُPathالْجَنَّةِof Paradise
Path of Paradise.
وَهُوَAnd it isالصِّرَاطُthe pathالْمُوَصِّلُthat leadsإِلَيْهَاto it.
And it is the path that leads to it.
فَمَنْSo whoeverهُدِيَis guidedفِيinهَذِهِthisالدَّارِworldإِلَىtoصِرَاطِthe pathاللَّـهِof Allahالْمُسْتَقِيمِthe Straight,
So whoever is guided in this world to the path of Allah the Straight,
الَّذِيwhichأَرْسَلَHe sentبِهِwithرُسُلَهُHis messengersوَأَنْزَلَand sent downبِهِwithكُتُبَهُHis books,
which He sent with His messengers and sent down with His books,
هُدِيَhe is guidedهُنَاكَthereإِلَىtoالصِّرَاطِthe pathالْمُسْتَقِيمِthe Straight,
he is guided there to the Straight Path,
الْمُوَصِّلِleadingإِلَىtoجَنَّتِهِHis Paradiseوَدَارِand the abodeثَوَابِهِof His reward.
leading to His Paradise and the abode of His reward.
وَعَلَىAnd according toقَدْرِthe extentثُبُوتِof the firmnessقَدَمِof the footالْعَبْدِof the servantعَلَىonهَذَاthisالصِّرَاطِpathالَّذِيthatنَصَبَهُwas establishedاللَّـهُby Allahلِعِبَادِهِfor His servantsفِيinهَذِهِthisالدَّارِworld
And according to the extent of the firmness of the servant's foot on this path that Allah has established for His servants in this world,
يَكُونُwill beثُبُوتُthe firmnessقَدَمِهِof his footعَلَىonالصِّرَاطِthe pathالْمَنْصُوبِthat is establishedعَلَىonمَتْنِthe backجَهَنَّمَof Hell.
the firmness of his foot on the path that is established on the back of Hell.
وَعَلَىAnd according toقَدْرِthe extentسِيرِهِof his proceedingعَلَىonهَذَاthisالصِّرَاطِpathيَكُونُwill beسِيرُهُhis proceedingعَلَىonذَاكَthatالصِّرَاطِpath.
And according to the extent of his proceeding on this path will be his proceeding on that path.
فَمِنْهُمْSome of themيَمُرُّwill passكَالْبَرْقِlike lightningوَمِنْهُمْand some of themيَمُرُّwill passكَالطَّرْفِlike a glanceوَمِنْهُمْand some of themيَمُرُّwill passكَالرِّيحِlike windوَمِنْهُمْand some of themيَمُرُّwill passكَشَدِّ الرُّكَّابِlike the galloping of ridersوَمِنْهُمْand some of themيَسْعَىwill walkسَعْيًاhastilyوَمِنْهُمْand some of themيَحْبُوwill crawlحَبْوًاcrawlingوَمِنْهُمْand some of themالْمَخْدُوشُthe woundedالْمُسَلَّمُthe safeوَمِنْهُمْand some of themالْمُكَرْدَسُis rolled upفِيinالنَّارِthe Fire.
Some of them will pass like lightning, and some of them will pass like a glance, and some of them will pass like wind, and some of them will pass like the galloping of riders, and some of them will walk hastily, and some of them will crawl, and some of them are wounded and safe, and some of them are rolled up in the Fire.
فَلْيَنْظُرِSo let lookالْعَبْدُthe servantسِيرَهُat his proceedingعَلَىonذَاكَthatالصِّرَاطِpathمِنْfromسِيرِهِhis proceedingعَلَىonهَذَاthisالصِّرَاطِpathحَذْوَstep by stepالْقُذَّةِas the featherبِالْقُذَّةِto the featherجَزَاءًas a rewardوَفَاقًاfittingهَلْWillتُجْزَوْنَyou be recompensedإِلَّاexceptمَاfor whatكُنْتُمْyou used toتَعْمَلُونَdo.
So let the servant look at his proceeding on that path in light of his proceeding on this path, feather matched with feather as a fitting reward: 'Will you be recompensed except for what you used to do?'
يَمْشِيHe walksمَشْيًاwalkingly
He walks walkingly,
وَلْيَنْظُرْand let him lookالشُّبُهَاتِat the doubtsوَالشَّهَوَاتِand desiresالَّتِيthatتَعُوقُهُhinder himعَنْfromسِيرِهِproceedingعَلَىonهَذَاthisالصِّرَاطِpathالْمُسْتَقِيمِthe Straight.
and let him look at the doubts and desires that hinder him from proceeding on this Straight Path.
فَإِنَّهَاFor indeed they areالْكِلَابُthe dogsالَّتِيthatبِجَانِبَيْare on both sides ofذَاكَthatالصِّرَاطِpathتَخْطَفُهُsnatch himوَتَعُوقُهُand obstruct himعَنِfromالْمُرُورِpassingعَلَيْهِon it.
For indeed they are the dogs that are on both sides of that path, snatching him and obstructing him from passing on it.
فَإِنْSo ifكَثُرَتْthey increaseهُنَاhereوَقَوِيَتْand gain strengthفَكَذَلِكَsimilarlyهِيَthey areهُنَاكَthere.
So if they increase here and gain strength, similarly they are there.
وَمَاAnd whatرَبُّكَyour Lordبِظَلَّامٍis unjustلِلْعِبَادِto the servants.
And your Lord is not unjust to the servants.
فَسُؤَالُThus the requestالْهِدَايَةِfor guidanceمَتَضَمِّنٌincludesحُصُولَthe attainmentكُلِّof allخَيْرٍgoodوَالسَّلَامَةِand safetyمِنْfromكُلِّallشَرٍّevil.
Thus the request for guidance includes the attainment of all good and safety from all evil.
الْمَوْضِعُThe placeالسَّابِعُseventh:مِنْfromمَعْرِفَةِthe knowledge ofنَفْسِthe selfالْمَسْئُولِbeing questionedوَهُوَand it isالصِّرَاطُthe pathالْمُسْتَقِيمُthe Straight.
The seventh place is from the knowledge of the self being questioned, and it is the Straight Path.
لَاIt is notتَكُونُfor it to beالطَّرِيقُthe wayصِرَاطًاa pathحَتَّىuntilتَتَضَمَّنَit includesخَمْسَةَfiveأُمُورٍmatters:الِاسْتِقَامَةَstraightnessوَالْإِيصَالَand reachingإِلَىtoالْمَقْصُودِthe intended goal,,وَالْقُرْبَand closeness,,وَسَعَتَهُand its spaciousnessلِلْمَارِّينَfor those who walkعَلَيْهِon it,,وَتَعْيِينَهُand its designationطَرِيقًاas a wayلِلْمَقْصُودِto the intended goal.
A way does not become a path until it includes five matters: straightness, reaching the intended goal, closeness, spaciousness for those who walk on it, and its designation as a way to the intended goal.
وَلَاAnd it is notيَخْفَىhiddenتَضَمُّنُthat includesالصِّرَاطِthe pathالْمُسْتَقِيمِthe Straightلِهَذِهِfor theseالْأُمُورِmattersالْخَمْسَةِfive.
And it is not hidden that the Straight Path includes these five matters.
فَوَصْفُهُSo describing itبِالِاسْتِقَامَةِwith straightnessيَتَضَمَّنُincludesقُرْبَهُits closeness,,لِأَنَّbecauseالْخَطَّthe lineالْمُسْتَقِيمَthe straightهُوَisأَقْرَبُthe closestخَطٍّlineفَاصِلٍdividingبَيْنَbetweenنُقْطَتَيْنِtwo points.
So describing it with straightness includes its closeness, because the straight line is the closest line dividing between two points.
وَكُلَّمَاAnd wheneverتَعَوَّجَتْit bendsطَالَتْit extendsوَبَعُدَتْand gets farther away.
And whenever it bends, it extends and gets farther away.
وَاسْتِقَامَتُهَاAnd its straightnessتَتَضَمَّنُincludesإِيصَالَهَاits reachingإِلَىtoالْمَقْصُودِthe intended goal.
And its straightness includes its reaching to the intended goal.
