فَقَالُواSo they saidلِإِبْرَاهِيمَto AbrahamأَنْتَYouتَعْلَمُknowأَنَّthatالْأَصْنَامَthe idolsلَاnotتَنْطِقُspeak
So they said to Abraham: You know that idols do not speak.
قَالَSaidإِبْرَاهِيمُAbrahamفَكَيْفَSo howتَعْبُدُونَdo you worshipالْأَصْنَامَthe idolsوَإِنَّهَاand indeed theyلَاnotتَضُرُّharmوَلَاnorتَنْفَعُbenefit
Abraham said: So how do you worship idols when they neither harm nor benefit?
وَكَيْفَAnd howتَسْأَلُونَdo you askالْأَصْنَامَthe idolsوَإِنَّهَاand indeed theyلَاnotتَنْطِقُspeakوَلَاnorتَسْمَعُhear
And how do you ask the idols when they neither speak nor hear?
أَلَاDo you notتَفْهَمُونَunderstandشَيْئًا؟anything?
Do you not understand anything?
أَفَلَاDo you notتَعْقِلُونَ؟reason?
Do you not reason?
وَسَكَتَAnd fell silentالنَّاسُthe peopleوَخَجِلُواand were ashamed
And the people became silent and were ashamed.
٦6------نَارٌFireبَارِدَةٌcold
6 - Cold Fire
اجْتَمَعَGatheredالنَّاسُthe peopleوَقَالُوا:and said:مَاذَاWhatنَفْعَلُ؟shall we do?
The people gathered and said: What shall we do?
إِنَّIndeedإِبْرَاهِيمَAbrahamكَسَرَbrokeالْأَصْنَامَthe idolsوَأَهَانَand insultedالْآلِهَةَ!the gods!
Indeed, Abraham broke the idols and insulted the gods!
وَسَأَلَAnd askedالنَّاسُ:the people:مَاWhatعِقَابُpunishmentإِبْرَاهِيمَ؟of Abraham?
And the people asked: What is Abraham's punishment?
مَاWhatجَزَاءُrecompenseإِبْرَاهِيمَ؟of Abraham?
What is Abraham's recompense?
كَانَWasالْجَوَابُthe answerقَالُواThey saidحَرِّقُوهُBurn himوَانْصُرُواand supportآلِهَتَكُمْyour gods)]
The answer was: They said, "Burn him and support your gods!"
وَهَكَذَاAnd thusكَانَ:it was:أَوْقَدُواThey litنَارًاa fireوَأَلْقَوْاand threwفِيهَاinto itإِبْرَاهِيمَ.Abraham.
And so it was: they lit a fire and threw Abraham into it.
الْأَنْبِيَاءُThe Prophets:chapter٦٨68
[Al-Anbiya : 68]
وَلَكِنَّButاللَّهَAllahنَصَرَhelpedإِبْرَاهِيمَAbrahamوَقَالَand saidلِلنَّارِto the fire:sayingيَاOنَارُfireكُونِيbeبَرْدًاcoolnessوَسَلَامًاand safetyعَلَىuponإِبْرَاهِيمَAbraham
But Allah helped Abraham and said to the fire: 'O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham.'
الْأَنْبِيَاءُThe Prophets:chapter٦٩69
[Al-Anbiya : 69]
وَهَكَذَاAnd thusكَانَ،it was,كَانَتِwasالنَّارُthe fireبَرْدًاcoolnessوَسَلَامًاand peaceعَلَىuponإِبْرَاهِيمَAbraham
And so it was, the fire was cool and peaceful for Abraham,
وَرَأَىand sawالنَّاسُthe peopleأَنَّthatالنَّارَthe fireلَاnotتَضُرُّharmsإِبْرَاهِيمَ.Abraham.
and the people saw that the fire did not harm Abraham.
وَرَأَىAnd sawالنَّاسُthe peopleأَنَّthatإِبْرَاهِيمَAbrahamمَسْرُورٌpleasedوَأَنَّand thatإِبْرَاهِيمَAbrahamسَالِمٌsafe
And the people saw that Abraham was pleased and that Abraham was safe,
وَدُهِشَand were astonishedالنَّاسُthe people
and the people were astonished.
