وَتَحَيَّرُوا.And they were bewildered.
And they were bewildered.
مَنْWhoرَبِّي؟is my Lord?
Who is my Lord?
وَذَاتَAnd oneلَيْلَةٍnightرَأَىhe sawكَوْكَبًاa starفَقَالَ:and said:هَذَاThis isرَبِّي.my Lord.
And one night he saw a star and said: This is my Lord.
وَلَمَّاAnd whenغَابَdisappearedالْكَوْكَبُthe starقَالَsaidإِبْرَاهِيمُ:Ibrahim:لَا!No!هَذَاThisلَيْسَis notبِرَبِّي.my Lord.
And when the star disappeared, Ibrahim said: No! This is not my Lord.
وَرَأَىAnd sawإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimالْقَمَرَthe moonفَقَالَ:and said:هَذَاThis isرَبِّي.my Lord.
And Ibrahim saw the moon and said: This is my Lord.
وَلَمَّاAnd whenغَابَdisappearedالْقَمَرُthe moonقَالَsaidإِبْرَاهِيمُ:Ibrahim:لَا!No!هَذَاThisلَيْسَis notرَبِّي.my Lord.
And when the moon disappeared, Ibrahim said: No! This is not my Lord.
وَطَلَعَتِAnd roseالشَّمْسُthe sunفَقَالَand saidإِبْرَاهِيمُ:Ibrahim:هَذَاThis isرَبِّيmy Lord,هَذَاthis isأَكْبَرُgreater(الْإِمَامُ)(the Imam)) )
And the sun rose, and Ibrahim said: This is my Lord, this is greater (the Imam).
وَلَمَّاAnd whenغَابَتِdisappearedالشَّمْسُthe sunفِيinاللَّيْلِthe nightقَالَsaidإِبْرَاهِيمُ:Ibrahim:لَا!No!هَذَاThisلَيْسَis notرَبِّي.my Lord.
And when the sun disappeared in the night, Ibrahim said: No! This is not my Lord.
إِنَّIndeedاللَّهَAllahحَيٌّis ever-livingلَاHe does notيَمُوتُ.die.
Indeed, Allah is ever-living; He does not die.
إِنَّIndeedاللَّهَAllahبَاقٍis everlastingلَاHe does notيَغِيبُ.disappear.
Indeed, Allah is everlasting; He does not disappear.
إِنَّIndeedاللَّهَAllahقَوِيٌّis strongلَاHe is notيَغْلِبُهُ.overcome.
Indeed, Allah is strong; nothing overcomes Him.
وَالْكَوْكَبُAnd the starضَعِيفٌis weak;يَغْلِبُهُovercomes itالصُّبْحُ.the morning.
And the star is weak; the morning overcomes it.
وَالْقَمَرُAnd the moonضَعِيفٌis weak;تَغْلِبُهُovercomes itالشَّمْسُ.the sun.
And the moon is weak; the sun overcomes it.
وَالشَّمْسُAnd the sunضَعِيفَةٌis weak;يَغْلِبُهَاovercomes itاللَّيْلُthe nightوَandيَغْلِبُهَاovercomes itالْغَيْمُ.the clouds.
And the sun is weak; the night overcomes it, and the clouds overcome it.
وَلَاAnd does notيَنْصُرُنِيhelp meالْكَوْكَبُthe starلِأَنَّهُbecause it isضَعِيفٌ.weak.
And the star does not help me because it is weak.
وَلَاAnd does notتَنْصُرُنِيhelp meالشَّمْسُthe sunلِأَنَّهَاbecause it isضَعِيفَةٌ.weak.
And the sun does not help me because it is weak.
وَيَنْصُرُنِيAnd helps meاللَّهُAllahلِأَنَّbecauseاللَّهَAllahحَيٌّis ever-livingلَاand does notيَمُوتُ،die,وَبَاقٍeverlastingلَاand does notيَغِيبُ،disappear,وَقَوِيٌّand strongلَاand nothingيَغْلِبُهُ.overcomes Him.
And Allah helps me because Allah is ever-living and does not die, everlasting and does not disappear, and strong and nothing overcomes Him.
