رَبِّيَMy Lordاللَّهُ.is Allah.
My Lord is Allah.
وَعَرَفَAnd knewإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimأَنَّthatاللَّهَAllahرَبُّهُwas his Lord
And Ibrahim knew that Allah was his Lord
لِأَنَّbecauseاللَّهَAllahلَاdoes notيَمُوتُ،die,
because Allah does not die,
وَأَنَّand thatاللَّهَAllahبَاقٍis everlastingلَاdoes notيَغِيبُ،vanish,
and that Allah is everlasting and does not vanish,
وَأَنَّand thatاللَّهَAllahقَوِيٌّis strongلَاnothingيَغْلِبُهُovercomes Himشَيْءٌ.anything.
and that Allah is strong and nothing can overcome Him.
حَيٌّ.He is Alive.
He is Alive.
وَعَرَفَAnd knewإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimأَنَّthatاللَّهَAllahرَبُّis the Lord ofالْكَوْكَبِ،the planet,
And Ibrahim knew that Allah is the Lord of the planet,
وَأَنَّand thatاللَّهَAllahرَبُّis the Lord ofالْقَمَرِ،the moon,
and that Allah is the Lord of the moon,
وَأَنَّand thatاللَّهَAllahرَبُّis the Lord ofالشَّمْسِ،the sun,
and that Allah is the Lord of the sun,
وَأَنَّand thatاللَّهَAllahرَبُّis the Lord ofالْعَالَمِينَ.the worlds.
and that Allah is the Lord of the worlds.
وَهَدَىAnd guidedاللَّهُAllahإِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahim
And Allah guided Ibrahim
وَجَعَلَهُand made himنَبِيًّاa prophetوَخَلِيلًا.and a close friend.
and made him a prophet and a close friend.
وَأَمَرَAnd commandedاللَّهُAllahإِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahimأَنْtoيَدْعُوَinviteقَوْمَهُhis people
And Allah commanded Ibrahim to invite his people
وَيَمْنَعَهُمْand prevent themمِنْfromعِبَادَةِworship ofالْأَصْنَامِ.the idols.
and prevent them from worship of the idols.
٩9 - - دَعْوَةُThe Callإِبْرَاهِيمَ.of Ibrahim.
9 - The Call of Ibrahim.
وَدَعَاAnd invitedإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimقَوْمَهُhis peopleإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllah
And Ibrahim invited his people to Allah
وَمَنَعَهُمْand prevented themمِنْfromعِبَادَةِworship ofالْأَصْنَامِ.the idols.
and prevented them from worship of the idols.
قَالَSaidإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimلِقَوْمِهِ:to his people:مَاWhatتَعْبُدُونَ؟do you worship?
Ibrahim said to his people: What do you worship?
قَالُواThey saidنَعْبُدُWe worshipأَصْنَامًاidols.[الشُّعَرَاء:[Ash-Shu'ara:٧١].71]
They said: We worship idols. [Ash-Shu'ara: 71]
قَالَSaidإِبْرَاهِيمُ:Ibrahim:هَلْDoيَسْمَعُونَكُمْthey hear youإِذْwhenتَدْعُونَ؟you call?
Ibrahim said: Do they hear you when you call?
أَوْOrيَنْفَعُونَكُمْdo they benefit youأَوْorيَضُرُّونَ؟do they harm?
Or do they benefit you or do they harm?
قَالُواThey saidبَلْRatherوَجَدْنَاwe foundآبَاءَنَاour fathersكَذَلِكَthusيَفْعَلُونَdoing[الشُّعَرَاء:[Ash-Shu'ara:٧٢-٧٤].72-74]
They said: Rather, we found our fathers doing thus. [Ash-Shu'ara: 72-74]
قَالَSaidإِبْرَاهِيمُ:Ibrahim:فَأَنَاSo Iلَاdo notأَعْبُدُworshipهَذِهِtheseالْأَصْنَامَ،idols,
Ibrahim said: So I do not worship these idols,
بَلْratherأَنَاI amعَدُوٌّan enemyلِهَذِهِto theseالْأَصْنَامِ.idols.
rather I am an enemy to these idols.
أَنَاIأَعْبُدُworshipرَبَّthe Lord ofالْعَالَمِينَthe worlds,
I worship the Lord of the worlds,
الَّذِيWhoخَلَقَنِيcreated me,فَهُوَthen Heيَهْدِينِ،guides me,
Who created me, then He guides me,
وَالَّذِيAnd WhoهُوَHeيُطْعِمُنِيfeeds meوَيَسْقِينِ.and gives me drink.
And Who is it that feeds me and gives me drink.
