وَبَيْنَمَاAnd whileيَتَنَزَّهَانِthey were strollingإِذْsuddenlyوَقَعَfellبَصَرُهُمَاtheir sightعَلَىuponصُنْدُوقٍa boxتَلْعَبُplayingبِهِwith itأَمْوَاجُthe wavesالنِّيلِof the Nile
And while they were strolling, suddenly their sight fell upon a box that the waves of the Nile were playing with.
كَأَنَّمَاAs ifتُقَبِّلُهُ.kissing it.
As if kissing it.
هَلْDoتَرَىyou seeيَاOسَيِّدِيmy lordذَلِكَthatالصُّنْدُوقَbox?
Do you see, my lord, that box?
أَيْنَWhereالصُّنْدُوقُis the boxفِيinالنِّيلِ؟the Nile?إِنَّمَاIt is onlyهِيَitخَشَبَةٌa piece of woodسَقَطَتْthat fellفِيintoالنِّيلِ.the Nile.
Where is the box in the Nile? It is only a piece of wood that fell into the Nile.
لَاNoيَاOسَيِّدِيmy lordإِنَّمَاit is ratherهُوَitصُنْدُوقٌ!a box!
No, my lord, it is rather a box!
وَقُرِّبَAnd was brought nearالصُّنْدُوقُthe boxفَقَالَand saidالنَّاسُ:the people:نَعَمْYesهَذَاthisصُنْدُوقٌ!is a box!
And the box was brought near, and the people said: Yes, this is a box!
وَأَمَرَAnd orderedالْمَلِكُthe kingأَحَدَoneالْخَدَمِ،of the servants,وَقَالَ:and said:إِلَيْكَTakeهَذَاthisالصُّنْدُوقَ!box!
And the king ordered one of the servants, and said: Take this box!
وَذَهَبَAnd wentالْخَادِمُthe servantوَأَخْرَجَand brought outالصُّنْدُوقَthe boxوَفَتَحَand openedالصُّنْدُوقَthe boxفَإِذَاand beholdفِيهِin itغُلَامٌa boyجَمِيلٌbeautifulيَبْتَسِمُ.smiling.
And the servant went and brought out the box and opened the box, and behold, in it was a beautiful boy, smiling.
وَتَحَيَّرَAnd were astonishedالنَّاسُthe peopleكُلٌّeach oneيَأْخُذُهُtaking himوَيَرَاهُand looking at himوَتَحَيَّرَand was astonishedفِرْعَوْنُPharaohوَرَآهُ.and saw him.
And the people were astonished, each one taking him and looking at him, and Pharaoh was astonished and saw him.
قَالَSaidبَعْضُsomeالْخَدَمِof the servantsإِنَّIndeedهَذَاthisالْغُلَامَboyإِسْرَائِيلِيٌّis an Israeliteوَلَاand there isبُدَّno escapeلِلْمَلِكِfor the kingأَنْfromيَذْبَحَهُ.slaughtering him.
Some of the servants said: Indeed, this boy is an Israelite, and the king must inevitably slaughter him.
وَرَأَتْهُAnd saw himالْمَلِكَةُthe queenوَدَخَلَand enteredحُبُّهُhis loveفِيintoقَلْبِهَاher heartفَضَمَّتْهُso she embraced himإِلَىtoصَدْرِهَاher chestوَقَبَّلَتْهُ.and kissed him.
And the queen saw him, and his love entered her heart, so she embraced him to her chest and kissed him.
وَشَفَعَتْAnd she intercededلَهُfor himعِنْدَwithالْمَلِكِthe kingوَقَالَتْ:and said:قُرَّتُA comfortعَيْنٍof the eyeلِيfor meوَلَكَand for youلَاdo notتَقْتُلُوهُkill himعَسَىperhapsأَنْthatيَنْفَعَنَاhe will benefit usأَوْorنَتَّخِذَهُwe take himوَلَدًا.as a son.
And she interceded for him with the king and said: A comfort of the eye for me and for you, do not kill him; perhaps he will benefit us or we will take him as a son.
وَهَكَذَاAnd thusدَخَلَenteredمُوسَىMosesبْنُson ofعِمْرَانَAmranقَصْرَthe palaceفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohوَعَاشَand livedعَلَىdespiteرَغْمِthe opposition ofفِرْعَوْنَPharaohوَشُرْطَتِهِ،and his guards,وَلَمْand did notيَهْتَدِfindالشُّرْطَةُthe guardsإِلَىtoهَذَاthisالْمَوْلُودِnewbornالْإِسْرَائِيلِيِّ.Israelite.
And thus Moses, son of Amran, entered the palace of Pharaoh and lived despite Pharaoh and his guards, and the guards did not find this Israelite newborn.
