وَلَهُمْAnd for themعُيُونُare the eyesالْغُرَابِof the crow

And they have the eyes of the crow.

وَشَامَةُand the moleالنَّمْلِof the ant.

And the mole of the ant.

وَأَرَادَAnd intendedاللَّهُAllah

And Allah intended

أَنْthatيُرَبِّيَraiseفِرْعَوْنُPharaoh

that Pharaoh should raise

عَدُوُّthe enemyالْأَطْفَالِof the children

the enemy of children

طِفْلًاas a childيَذْهَبُwhose kingdom will perishمُلْكُهُwhose kingdomعَلَىatيَدِهِhis hand.

a child whose kingdom will perish at his hand.

مِسْكِينُPoorفِرْعَوْنُ!Pharaoh!

Poor Pharaoh!

لَقَدْIndeedأَخْطَأَhe erredفِيconcerningمُوسَىMoses.

Indeed, he erred concerning Moses.

وَقَدْAnd indeedأَخْطَأَerredمَعَهُwith him

And indeed erred with him

وَزِيرُهُhis ministerهَامَانُHamanوَجُنُودُهُand his soldiers.

his minister Haman and his soldiers.

فَالْتَقَطَهُThen picked him upآلُthe familyفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaoh

Then the family of Pharaoh picked him up

لِيَكُونَso that he might beلَهُمْfor themعَدُوًّاan enemyوَحَزَنًاand a cause of grief.

so that he might be for them an enemy and a cause of grief.

إِنَّIndeedفِرْعَوْنَPharaohوَهَامَانَand Hamanوَجُنُودُهُمَاand their two soldiersكَانُواwereخَاطِئِينَsinners.

Indeed, Pharaoh and Haman and their soldiers were sinners.

مَنْWhoيُرْضِعُwill nurseالطِّفْلَ؟the child?

Who will nurse the child?

وَكَانَAnd wasالطِّفْلُthe childالْجَدِيدُnew

And the new child was

وَكَانَand wasالطِّفْلُthe childالْجَمِيلُbeautiful

and the beautiful child was

لُعْبَةَthe toyالْقَصْرِof the palaceوَلَهْوَand the amusementالدَّارِof the household.

the toy of the palace and the amusement of the household.

كُلٌّEveryoneيَأْخُذُهُtakes himوَيُقَبِّلُهُand kisses him

Everyone takes him and kisses him

وَكُلٌّand everyoneيُحِبُّهُloves himوَيَمْدَحُهُand praises him

and everyone loves him and praises him

لِأَنَّbecauseالْمَلِكَةَthe queenتُحِبُّهُloves himحُبًّاwith a loveعَظِيمًاgreat.

because the queen loves him with a great love.

فَكَيْفَSo howلَاnotتُحِبُّهُwould love himسَيِّدَاتُthe ladiesالْقَصْرِof the palace

So how would the ladies of the palace not love him

وَكَيْفَand howلَاnotيُحِبُّهُwould love himخَدَمُthe servantsالْقَصْرِ؟of the palace?

and how would the servants of the palace not love him?

وَكُلٌّAnd everyoneيَأْخُذُهُtakes himوَيُقَبِّلُهُand kisses him

And everyone takes him and kisses him

لِأَنَّbecauseالطِّفْلَthe childجَمِيلٌis beautiful.

because the child is beautiful.

وَطَلَبَتِAnd requestedالْمَلِكَةُthe queenمُرْضِعًاa wet nurseتُرْضِعُto nurseالطِّفْلَthe child

And the queen requested a wet nurse to nurse the child

وَجَاءَتْand she cameوَأَخَذَتِand tookالطِّفْلَthe child

and she came and took the child

وَلَكِنَّbutالطِّفْلَthe childيَبْكِيcriesوَيَأْبَىand refuses!

but the child cries and refuses!

وَطَلَبَتِAnd requestedالْمَلِكَةُthe queenمُرْضِعًاa wet nurseأُخْرَىanother

And the queen requested another wet nurse

وَحَضَرَتْand she attendedوَأَخَذَتِand tookالطِّفْلَthe child

and she attended and took the child

وَلَكِنَّbutالطِّفْلَthe childيَبْكِيcriesوَيَأْبَىand refuses!

but the child cries and refuses!
