خَرَجَHe went outمُوسَىMosesعَلَىrelying uponاسْمِthe nameاللَّهِof Allah
Moses went out in the name of Allah,
يَدْعُوcallingاللَّهَupon Allahوَيَطْلُبُand askingمِنْهُfrom Himمُسْتَجِيرًاseeking refuge
calling upon Allah and asking from Him seeking refuge.
وَلَمَّاAnd whenتَوَجَّهَhe turnedتِلْقَاءَtowardsمَدْيَنَMadyan
And when he turned towards Madyan,
قَالَhe saidرَبِّيO my Lordأَنْtoيَهْدِيَنِيguide meسَوَاءَto the middleالسَّبِيْلِof the path.
he said: 'My Lord, guide me to the straight path.'
١٥15–—فِيInمَدْيَنَMadyan
15 - In Madyan
وَصَلَArrivedمُوسَىMosesإِلَىatمَدْيَنَMadyan
Moses arrived at Madyan,
لَاnotيَعْرِفُknowingأَحَدًاanyoneوَلَاand notيَعْرِفُهُknowing himأَحَدٌanyone.
knowing no one and no one knowing him.
فَمَنْSo whoيَأْوِيwill shelterإِلَيْهِhimفِيinاللَّيْلِ؟the night?
So who will shelter him at night?
وَأَيْنَAnd whereيَبِيتُ؟will he spend the night?
And where will he spend the night?
تَحَيَّرَWas bewilderedمُوسَىMosesوَلَكِنَّهُbut heأَيْقَنَwas certainأَنَّthatاللَّهَAllahلَاwill notيُضِيْعُهُlet him be lost.
Moses was bewildered, but he was certain that Allah would not let him be lost.
وَكَانَAnd there wasهُنَالِكَthereبِئْرٌa wellيُسْقِيwateringعَلَيْهَاfrom itالنَّاسُthe people
And there was a well from which the people were watering,
غَنَمَهُمْtheir sheepوَمَاشِيَتَهُمْand their cattle.
their sheep and their cattle.
وَوَجَدَAnd he foundامْرَأَتَيْنِtwo womenتَذُودَانِholding backغَنَمَهُمَاtheir sheep
And he found two women holding back their sheep
وَتَنْتَظِرَانِand waitingأَنْforيَسْقِيَto waterالنَّاسُthe peopleفَتَسْقِيَاso they could water.
and waiting for the people to finish so they could water.
رَأَىSawمُوسَىMosesذَلِكَthat
Moses saw that,
وَفِيand inقَلْبِهِhis heartحَنَانُwas the tendernessالْكَرِيمِof the noble oneوَشَفَقَةُand the compassionالْأَبِof the fatherالرَّحِيمِthe merciful.
and in his heart was the tenderness of the noble one and the compassion of the merciful father.
فَقَالَSo he saidلِمَاذَاWhyلَاdo notتَسْقِيَانِyou two water?
So he said: 'Why don't you two water?'
قَالَتَاThey saidلَاnotيُمْكِنُis it possibleلَنَاfor usأَنْtoنَسْقِيَwaterغَنَمَنَاour sheep
They said: 'We cannot water our sheep
حَتَّىuntilيَسْقِيَwatersالنَّاسُthe people
until the people water,
لِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyأَقْوِيَاءُare strongوَنَحْنُand weضُعَفَاءُare weak,
because they are strong and we are weak,
وَلِأَنَّهُمْand because theyرِجَالٌare menوَنَحْنُand weإِنَاثٌare women.
and because they are men and we are women.
وَكَأَنَّمَاAnd as ifعَرَفَتَاthey knewأَنَّthatمُوسَىMosesسَيَسْأَلُهُمَاwould ask them
And as if they knew that Moses would ask them:
فَلِمَاذَاSo whyلَاdoes notيَسْقِيwaterأَحَدٌanyoneمِنْfromرِجَالِthe menبَيْتِكُنَّof your household?
'So why doesn't any man of your household water?'
فَسَبَقَتَاSo they precededوَقَالَتَاand said
So they preceded and said:
وَأَبُونَاAnd our fatherشَيْخٌis an oldكَبِيرٌman.
'And our father is a very old man.'
وَهَاجَAnd was stirredفِيinمُوسَىMosesحَنَانُthe tendernessالْكَرِيمِof the noble one
And the tenderness of the noble one was stirred in Moses,
وَسَقَىand he wateredلَهُمَاfor themوَذَهَبَتَاand they went.
and he watered for them, and they went.
