وَأَحَبَّAnd lovedأَهْلُthe peopleمِصْرَof Egyptهَذَاthisالْبَيْتَhouseالْكَرِيمَnoble
And the people of Egypt loved this noble house
لِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyيُحِبُّونَloveيُوسُفَYusufلِكَرَمِهِfor his generosity
because they love Yusuf for his generosity
وَإِحْسَانِهِand his kindnessإِلَىtoالنَّاسِ.the people.
and his kindness to the people.
وَلِأَنَّهُمْAnd because theyرَأَوْاsawفِيinيُوسُفَYusufأَخًاa brotherنَاصِحًاcounsellingشَفِيقًا،compassionate,
And because they saw in Yusuf a compassionate, advising brother,
فَرَأَوْاso they sawفِيinيَعْقُوبَYaqubوَالِدًاa fatherمَّاtrulyجَدًّاveryكَرِيمًا.noble.
so they saw in Yaqub a truly very noble father.
وَكَانَAnd wasيَعْقُوبُYaqubكَبِيرَthe chiefالْبِلَادِof the landوَشَيْخَand the elderمِصْرَ،of Egypt,
And Yaqub was the chief of the land and the elder of Egypt,
وَكَانَand wereأَهْلُthe peopleمِصْرَof Egyptلَهُto himكَالْأَبْنَاءِ.like sons.
and the people of Egypt were to him like sons.
وَطَابَتْAnd was pleasantلِيَعْقُوبَfor Yaqubوَأَبْنَائِهِand his sonsالْإِقَامَةُthe stayفِيinمِصْرَEgypt
And the stay in Egypt was pleasant for Yaqub and his sons
وَصَارَتْand it becameلَهُمْfor themوَطَنًا.a homeland.
and it became a homeland for them.
٢2قَبْلَAfterيُوسُفَYusuf
2 - After Yusuf
وَبَعْدَAnd afterمُدَّةٍa periodمَاتَdiedيَعْقُوبُYaqub
And after a period, Yaqub died,
فَحَزِنَso grievedعَلَيْهِfor himيُوسُفُYusufوَحَزِنَand grievedعَلَيْهِfor himأَهْلُthe peopleمِصْرَ.of Egypt.
so Yusuf grieved for him, and the people of Egypt grieved for him.
وَدَفَنُوهُAnd they buried himالشَّيْخَthe elderفِيinمِصْرَEgypt
And they buried the elder in Egypt,
وَكَأَنَّهُمْand as if theyفَقَدُواhad lostأَبَاهُمْ.their father.
as if they had lost their father.
وَبَعْدَAnd afterمُدَّةٍa periodمَاتَdiedيُوسُفُYusufأَيْضًاtoo
And after a period, Yusuf also died,
فَكَانَso it wasيَوْمًاa dayعَلَىuponأَهْلِthe peopleمِصْرَof Egyptشَدِيدًا.severe.
so it was a severe day for the people of Egypt.
وَحَزِنَAnd grievedعَلَيْهِfor himأَهْلُthe peopleمِصْرَof Egyptحُزْنًاa griefشَدِيدًاsevere
And the people of Egypt grieved for him with severe grief
وَبَكَوْاand they weptعَلَيْهِfor himبُكَاءًa weepingطَوِيلًا.long.
and wept for him for a long time.
كَأَنَّهُمْAs if theyلَمْhad notتُصِبْهُمْbefallen themمُصِيبَةٌa calamityقَبْلَbeforeهَذَاthisالْيَوْمِ.day.
As if no calamity had befallen them before this day.
وَدَفَنُوهُAnd they buried himيُوسُفَYusufأَيْضًاtooوَعَزَّىand consoledبَعْضُهُمْsome of themبَعْضًا،others,
And they buried Yusuf too, and they consoled one another,
فَكَانُواso they wereفِيinيُوسُفَYusufسَوَاءً.equal.
so they were equal in their grief for Yusuf.
كُلُّEveryصَغِيرٍyoung oneفَقَدَlostأَبَاهُhis fatherوَكُلُّand everyكَبِيرٍelder oneفَقَدَlostأَخَاهُ.his brother.
Every young one lost his father, and every elder one lost his brother.
وَمَشَىAnd walkedالنَّاسُthe peopleإِلَىtoإِخْوَةِthe brothersيُوسُفَof Yusufوَأَبْنَائِهِمْand their sonsيُعَزُّونَهُمْ.to console them.
And the people walked to the brothers of Yusuf and their sons to console them.
وَيَقُولُونَAnd sayingلَهُمْ:to them:أَيُّهَاOالسَّادَةُsirs
And saying to them: O sirs,
لَيْسَتْis notخَسَارَتُكُمْyour lossالْيَوْمَtodayأَكْبَرَgreaterمِنْthanخَسَارَتِنَا.our loss.
your loss today is not greater than our loss.
