وَAndالطَّرِيقُthe roadإِلَىtoالسَّامِthe Levant
And the road to the Levant
طَرِيقٌis a roadوَاضِحٌclearمَعْلُومٌ،known,
is a clear, known road,
بَرٌّa landيَصِلُthat connectsبَيْنَbetweenالْبَرَّيْنِ.the two lands.
a land that connects between the two lands.
وَقَدْAnd indeedجَازَهُcrossed itمُوسَىMosesمَرَّتَيْنِ.twice.
And indeed Moses crossed it twice.
وَلَكِنَّButمُوسَىMosesأَرَادَwantedأَمْرًاa matter
But Moses wanted a matter
وَأَرَادَand wantedاللَّهُAllahأَمْرًا،a matter,
and Allah wanted a matter,
وَكَانَand it wasمَاwhatأَرَادَهُHe willedاللَّهُAllah
and it was what Allah willed.
أَخْطَأَErredمُوسَى!Moses!
Moses erred!
أَDidمُوسَىMosesالطَّرِيقَ،the road,
Did Moses err in the road,
وَحَيْثُand whereأَخْطَأَerredمُوسَىMosesأَصَابَsucceededالْقَدَرُ.destiny.
and where Moses erred, destiny succeeded.
ظَنَّThoughtمُوسَىMoses
Moses thought
أَنَّهُthat heيَسِيرُwas proceedingبِبَنِيwith the childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israel
that he was proceeding with the children of Israel
إِلَىtoجَانِبِthe sideالشِّمَالِ،of the north,
to the side of the north,
فَإِذَاwhen beholdبِهِمْthey wereفِيinظَلَامِthe darknessاللَّيْلِof the night
when behold they were in the darkness of the night
إِلَىtoجَانِبِthe sideالشَّرْقِ.of the east.
to the side of the east.
وَإِذَاAnd beholdبِهِمْthey wereأَمَامَin front ofالْبَحْرِthe seaالْأَحْمَرِthe Red
And behold they were in front of the Red Sea
تَتَلَاطَمُcrashingأَمْوَاجُهُ.its waves.
its waves crashing.
يَاOحَافِظُ!Protector!يَاOسَاتِرُ!Concealer!
O Protector! O Concealer!
أَيْنَWhereنَحْنُ؟are we?
Where are we?
كَانَItالْجَوَابُwasإِنَّنَاwe areأَمَامَin front ofالْبَحْرِ!the sea!
The answer was: We are in front of the sea!
وَالْتَفَتُواAnd they turnedإِلَىtoالْوَرَاءِ،behind,
And they turned behind,
فَإِذَاwhen beholdبِغُبَارٍdustسَاطِعٍ!rising!
when behold, rising dust!
وَإِذَاAnd beholdبِجُنْدٍan armyعَظِيمٍgreatقَدْhadسَدَّblockedالْأُفُقَ!the horizon!
And behold, a great army had blocked the horizon!
هُنَالِكَThereارْتَفَعَتِroseالْأَصْوَاتُ!the voices!
There the voices rose!
يَاOابْنَsonعِمْرَانَ!of Imran!مَاذَاWhatأَنْكَرْتَdid you dislikeمِنَّاfrom us
O son of Imran! What did you dislike from us
حَتَّىuntilدَبَّرْتَyou plottedقَتْلَنَا!our killing!
until you plotted our killing!
وَجِئْتَAnd you broughtبِنَاusإِلَىtoشَطِّthe shoreالْبَحْرِof the sea
And you brought us to the shore of the sea
لِيَقْتُلَنَاto kill usفِرْعَوْنُPharaohقَتْلَa killingالْفِئْرَانِlike the mice
to let Pharaoh kill us like mice,
حَيْثُwhereلَاnoفِرَارَescapeوَلَاnorنَجَاةَ!salvation!
where there is no escape nor salvation!
لَاWe do notنَذْكُرُrecallإِلَيْكَto youسُوءًاany evil
We do not recall any evil to you,
فَلِمَاذَاso whyهَذَاthisالْانْتِقَامُ!revenge!
so why this revenge!
