أَلَمْDid notيَكْفِكَsuffice you
Did not suffice you
مَاwhatأَصَابَنَاbefell usمِنَofالْجُهْدِeffort
what befell us of effort
وَالْبَلَاءِand afflictionلِأَجْلِكَfor your sake
and affliction for your sake
حَتَّىٰuntilجِئْتَyou cameبِنَاwith usإِلَىٰtoهُنَا؟here?
until you came with us to here?
هَاHereهُوَisالْبَحْرُthe seaأَمَامَنَا،in front of us,
Here is the sea in front of us,
وَهَاand hereهُوَisالْعَدُوُّthe enemyوَرَاءَنَا،behind us,
and here is the enemy behind us,
وَلَيْسَand there is notلَنَاfor usإِلَّاexceptالْمَوْتُ!death!
and there is nothing for us except death!
هُنَالِكَThereأَظْلَمَتِdarkenedالدُّنْيَاthe worldفِيinعُيُونِthe eyes
There, the world darkened in the eyes
بَنِيof the Childrenإِسْرَائِيلَ،of Israel,وَزَاغَتِand strayedالْأَبْصَارُthe sights
of Israel, and the sights strayed
وَاسْتَوْلَىand took overالْيَأْسُdespair,ثُمَّthenخَفَتَتِfadedالْأَصْوَاتُ.the voices.
and despair took over, then the voices faded.
هُنَالِكَThereتَزَلْزَلَwas shakenكُلُّeveryوَاحِدٍ،one,
There, everyone was shaken,
وَحَقٌّand it is rightلِلْجِبَالِfor the mountainsالْرَّاسِيَاتِthe firmأَنْtoتَتَزَلْزَلَ.be shaken.
and it is right for the firm mountains to be shaken.
وَلَكِنَّButإِيمَانَfaithمُوسَىٰof Mosesبِرَبِّهِin his Lord
But the faith of Moses in his Lord
لَمْdid notيَتَزَلْزَلْshake,وَسَمِعَand heardالنَّاسُthe people
did not shake, and the people heard
صَوْتًاa voiceفِيهِin itجَلَالُthe grandeurالنُّبُوَّةِ:of prophecy:
a voice in which was the grandeur of prophecy:
كَلَّاNo,إِنَّindeedمَعِيَwith meرَبِّيis my Lord,سَيَهْدِيْنِHe will guide me.
No, indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me.
وَأَمَرَAnd commandedاللَّهُAllahمُوسَىٰMosesأَنْtoيَضْرِبَstrikeبِعَصَاهُwith his staffالْبَحْرَ.the sea.
And Allah commanded Moses to strike the sea with his staff.
فَضَرَبَSo he struck,فَانْفَلَقَand it splitالْبَحْرُthe sea,
So he struck, and the sea split,
وَقَامَand stoodالْمَاءُthe waterعَلَىٰonكُلِّeveryجَانِبٍsideكَالْجَبَلِ.like a mountain.
and the water stood on every side like a mountain.
وَإِذَاAnd behold,اثْنَاtwelveعَشَرَtenطَرِيقًاpaths
And behold, twelve paths
لِاثْنَيْfor twelveعَشَرَtenسِبْطًا،tribes,لِكُلِّfor eachسِبْطٍtribeطَرِيقٌ.a path.
for twelve tribes, for each tribe a path.
وَسَارَAnd walkedالْقَوْمُthe peopleآمِنِينَ،safely,
And the people walked safely,
وَوَصَلُواand reachedإِلَىٰtoبَرِّthe shoreالْأَمْنِof safetyوَالسَّلَامِ.and peace.
and reached the shore of safety and peace.
غَرَقَDrownedفِرْعَوْنُ.Pharaoh.
Pharaoh drowned.
وَرَأَىٰAnd sawفِرْعَوْنُPharaohكَيْفَhowسَارَwalked
And Pharaoh saw how walked
بَنُوthe Childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelوَعَبَرُواand crossedالْبَحْرَthe seaآمِنِينَ.safely.
the Children of Israel and crossed the sea safely.
وَقَالَAnd saidفِرْعَوْنُPharaohلِجُنُودِهِto his soldiers:
And Pharaoh said to his soldiers:
انْظُرُواLookإِلَىٰatالْبَحْرِ!the sea!
Look at the sea!
كَيْفَHowانْفَلَقَit splitطَوْعًاwillinglyلِأَمْرِي!to my command!
How it split willingly to my command!
