كَذَلِكَLikewiseوَأَوْرَثْنُهَاand We made them inherit itقَوْمًاa peopleأَخَرِينَother
Likewise, We made another people inherit it.
فَمَاSo notبَكَتْweptعَلَيْهِمُupon themالسَّمَاءُthe heavenوَالْأَرْضُand the earth
So neither the heaven nor the earth wept upon them,
وَمَاand notكَانُواthey wereمُنْظَرِينَgiven respite
nor were they given respite.
٩9--فِيInالْبَرِيَّةِ!the wilderness!
9 - In the wilderness!
وَصَلَArrivedبَنُوthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelإِلَىtoبَرِّthe shoreالْأَمْنِof safetyوَالسَّلَامِ،and peace,
The children of Israel arrived at the shore of safety and peace,
وَتَنَفَّسُواand they breathedفِيinهُوَائِهِits airكَالْأَحْرَارِlike the freeالْأَشْرَافِ.noble people.
and they breathed in its air like noble free people.
هُنَالِكَThereلَاnotيَخَافُونَthey fearفِرْعَوْنَ،Pharaoh,وَلَاand notيَخَافُونَthey fearهَامَانَHaman,وَلَاand notيَخَافُونَthey fearشُرْطَتَهُ.his police.
There they do not fear Pharaoh, nor do they fear Haman, nor do they fear his police.
هُنَالِكَThereيَمْشُونَthey walkآمِنِينَsecurelyمُطْمَئِنِّينَreassured,لَاnotيَخْشَوْنَthey fearأَحَدًاanyoneإِلَّاexceptاللَّهَ.Allah.
There they walk securely and reassured, fearing no one except Allah.
وَلَكِنَّهُمْBut theyكَانُواwereأَهْلَpeopleالْحَضَرِ،of settlement,وَكَانَتِand wasالشَّمْسُthe sunتُؤْذِيهِمْharming themفِيinالْبَرِيَّةِ.the wilderness.
But they were people of settlement, and the sun used to harm them in the wilderness.
وَكَانُواAnd they wereضُيُوفَguestsاللَّهِ!of Allah!أَلَمْDid notتَرَyou seeإِلَىtoالْمُلُوكِthe kingsكَيْفَhowيُكْرِمُونَthey honorضُيُوفَهُمْ؟their guests?
And they were guests of Allah! Did you not see how kings honor their guests?
وَكَيْفَAnd howيَضْرِبُونَthey pitchلَهُمُfor themالْخِيَامَthe tentsتُقِيهِمْto protect themحَرَّfrom the heatالشَّمْسِ؟of the sun?
And how they pitch tents for them to protect them from the heat of the sun?
إِنَّIndeedكَرَامَةَthe honorاللَّهِof Allahفَوْقَis aboveكُلِّeveryكَرَامَةٍ!honor!
Indeed, the honor of Allah is above every honor!
وَأَمَرَAnd commandedاللَّهُAllahالْغَمَامَthe cloudsأَنْtoيُظِلَّهُمْ،shade them,فَكَانُواso they wereيَمْشُونَwalkingفِيinظِلِّthe shadeالْغَمَامِ،of the clouds,
And Allah commanded the clouds to shade them, so they were walking in the shade of the clouds,
وَكَانَand wasالْغَمَامُthe cloudيَسِيرُmovingمَعَهُمْwith themحَيْثُwhereverسَارُواthey wentوَيَقِفُand stoppingأَيْنَمَاwhereverوَقَفُوا!they stopped!
and the clouds moved with them wherever they went and stopped wherever they stopped!
وَعَطِشَAnd thirstedبَنُوthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelوَلَاand notمَاءٌwaterفِيinالْبَرِيَّةِ،the wilderness,وَلَاand notنَهْرٌa riverوَلَاand notبِئْرٌ.a well.
And the children of Israel thirsted and there was no water in the wilderness, nor a river, nor a well.
ذَهَبُواThey wentإِلَىtoمُوسَى،Moses,يَشْكُونَcomplainingإِلَيْهِto himالْعَطَشَthe thirstكَمَاasيَشْكُوcomplainsالطِّفْلُthe childإِلَىtoأُمِّهِhis motherوَيَسْتَغِيثُهَا.and seeks her help.
They went to Moses, complaining to him of the thirst as a child complains to his mother and seeks her help.
