فَقِيلَAnd it was saidلَهُto himأَلآنَNowوَقَدْwhen indeedعَصَيْتَyou disobeyedقَبْلُbeforeوَكُنْتَand you wereمِنَfromالْمُفْسِدِينَthe corrupters
And it was said to him, 'Now, when indeed you disobeyed before and were among the corrupters?'
وَمَاتَAnd diedفِرْعَوْنُPharaohفِيinالْبَحْرِthe seaغَرَقًا.drowning.
And Pharaoh died in the sea, drowning.
مَاتَDiedالْجَبَّارُthe tyrantالَّذِيwhoقَتَلَkilledأُلُوفًاthousandsمِنَofالْأَطْفَالِthe childrenوَالرِّجَالِand menذَبْحًاby slaughterوَخَنْقًا.and strangulation.
Died the tyrant who killed thousands of children and men, slaughtered and strangled.
مَاتَDiedالطَّاغِيَةُthe oppressorالَّذِيwhoقَتَلَkilledأُلُوفَthousandsآلَافٍof thousandsصَبْرًاboundوَشَنْقًا.and hanged.
Died the oppressor who killed thousands upon thousands, bound and by hanging.
مَاتَDiedمَلِكُthe kingمِصْرَof Egyptبَعِيدًاfarعَنْfromعَرْشِهِhis throne
Died the king of Egypt, far from his throne,
بَعِيدًاfarعَنْfromقَصْرِهِ،his palace
far from his palace,
بَعِيدًاfarعَنْfromسُلْطَانِهِ،his authority
far from his authority,
لَاnoطَبِيبٌdoctorيُدَاوِيهِtreats him
with no doctor to treat him,
وَلَاand noصَدِيقٌfriendيُوَاسِيهِ،comforts him
no friend to comfort him,
وَلَاand noعَيْنٌeyeتَبْكِيهِ!weeps for him!
and no eye to weep for him!
وَكَانَAnd wereبَنُوthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelفِيinشَكٍّdoubtعَنْaboutمَوْتِهِ،his death
And the children of Israel were in doubt about his death,
يَقُولُونَ:sayingإِنَّindeedفِرْعَوْنَPharaohلَاdoes notيَمُوتُ.die.
saying: 'Pharaoh does not die.'
أَمَاDid notكُنَّاweنَرَاهُsee himيَقْضِيspendأَيَّامًاdays
Did we not see him spend days
وَلَاand notيَأْكُلُeatingوَلَاand notيَشْرَبُ!drinking!
without eating or drinking!
وَقَذَفَAnd castالْبَحْرُthe seaجُثَّتَهُhis bodyفَأَيْقَنُواso they became certainبِمَوْتِهِ.of his death.
And the sea cast his body, so they became certain of his death.
وَقَالَAnd saidاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedلِفِرْعَوْنَto Pharaoh
And Allah the Exalted said to Pharaoh,
الْيَوْمَTodayنُنَجِّيكَWe will save youبِبَدَنِكَwith your bodyلِتَكُوْنَso that you may beلِمَنْfor thoseخَلْفَكَwho come after youآيَةًa sign
'Today We will save you with your body so that you may be a sign for those who come after you.'
وَكَانَتْAnd wasجَنَّةُthe paradiseفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohآيَةًa signللنَّاظِرِينَfor the beholdersوَعِبْرَةًand a lessonللمُعْتَبِرِينَ!for those who take heed!
And the paradise of Pharaoh was a sign for the beholders and a lesson for those who take heed!
وَغَرِقَAnd drownedجُنْدُthe armyفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohعَنْcompletelyآخِرِهِ،to the last of themوَمَاand notنَجَاsurvivedمِنْهُمْfrom themأَحَدٌ!anyone!
And the army of Pharaoh drowned completely, and not one of them survived!
وَخَلَّفُواAnd they left behindمِصْرَEgyptوَرَاءَهُمْ،behind them
And they left Egypt behind them,
وَلَمْand notيَجِدُواdid they findفِيinأَرْضِهَاits landالْوَاسِعَةِvastذِرَاعًاa cubitلِمَدْفَنٍ.for a grave.
and they did not find in its vast land even a cubit for a grave.
كَمْHow manyتَرَكُواdid they leaveمِنْofجَنَّاتٍgardensوَعُيُونٍand springs
How many did they leave of gardens and springs
وَزُرُوعٍand cropsوَمَقَامٍand a stationكَرِيمٍhonorable
and crops and an honorable station
وَنَعْمَةٍand luxuryكَانُواthey wereفِيهَاthereinفَاكِهِينَrejoicingكَذَلِكَthusوَأَوْرَثْنَاهَاand We caused it to be inherited byقَوْمًاa peopleآخَرِينَother
and luxury wherein they were rejoicing. Thus. And We caused it to be inherited by another people.
