قَالَHe saidفَاذْهَبْ"So goفَإِنَّfor indeedلَكَfor youفِيinالْحَيَاةِthe lifeأَنْthatتَقُولَyou sayلَا'Noمِسَاسَcontact.'"

He said, "So go, for indeed for you in this life is to say, 'No contact.'"

وَعَاقَبَهُAnd he punished himمُوسَىMosesبِالانْفِرَادِwith isolationيَمْشِيwalkingوَحْدَهُ،alone,

And Moses punished him with isolation, walking alone,

وَيَعِيشُand livingوَحْدَهُaloneكَالْوَحْشِيِّlike a wild animalلَاnotيَأْلَفُaffiliatingوَلَاnorيُؤْلَفُ.being affiliated.

and living alone like a wild animal, not affiliating and not being affiliated.

وَأَيُّAnd whatعِقَابٍpunishmentأَكْبَرُgreaterمِنْthanهَذَا؟!this?!

And what punishment is greater than this?!

إِنَّIndeedالَّذِيthe one whoنَجَّسَdefiled:أُلُوفاًthousandsمِنَofالنَّاسِpeopleبِالشِّرْكِ،with polytheism,

Indeed, the one who defiled thousands of people with polytheism,

يَجِبُmustأَنْthatيَتَقَدَّرَهُbe estimated byالنَّاسُpeopleوَيَنْبِذُوهُ.and shun him.

must be estimated by people and shunned.

إِنَّIndeedالَّذِيthe one whoفَرَّقَseparatedبَيْنَbetweenاللَّهِAllahوَعِبَادِهِand His servantsيَجِبُmustأَنْthatيُفَرَّقَbe separatedبَيْنَهُbetween himوَبَيْنَandالنَّاسِ.people.

Indeed, the one who separated between Allah and His servants must be separated between him and people.

إِنَّIndeedالَّذِيthe one whoدَعَاcalledإِلَىtoالشِّرْكِpolytheismفِيinأَرْضِlandاللَّهِAllahمُذْنِبٌis a sinnerيَجِبُmustالْأَرْضُthe earthكُلُّهَاallسِجْناًas a prisonلَهُ.for him.

Indeed, the one who called to polytheism in the land of Allah is a sinner; the entire earth must be a prison for him.

ثُمَّThenالْتَفَتَturnedمُوسَىMosesإِلَىtoالْعِجْلِthe calfالْمَلْعُونِ،the cursed,فَأَمَرَand orderedبِإِحْرَاقِهِits burningفَأُحْرِقَso it was burned:ثُمَّthenنَفَضَهُhe scattered itفِيinالْبَحْرِ.the sea.

Then Moses turned to the cursed calf, and ordered its burning; so it was burned, then he scattered it in the sea.

وَرَأَىAnd sawبَنُوthe children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelمَصِيرَthe fateالْعِجْلِof the calfالْمَعْبُودِ،the worshipped,وَرَأَوْاand they sawضَعْفَهُits weaknessوَعَجْزَهُ.and its inability.

And the children of Israel saw the fate of the worshipped calf, and they saw its weakness and its inability.

ثُمَّThenالْتَفَتَturnedمُوسَىMosesإِلَىtoبَنِيthe children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelوَقَالَ:and said:

Then Moses turned to the children of Israel and said:

يَاOقَوْمِmy people,إِنَّكُمْindeed youظَلَمْتُمْhave wrongedأَنْفُسَكُمْyourselvesبِاتِّخَاذِكُمُby your takingالْعِجْلَthe calfفَتُوبُواso repentإِلَىtoبَارِئِكُمْyour Creatorفَاقْتُلُواso killأَنْفُسَكُمْyourselvesذَلِكُمْthatخَيْرٌis betterلَكُمْfor youعِنْدَwithبَارِئِكُمْyour Creator

{O my people, indeed you have wronged yourselves by your taking the calf. So repent to your Creator and kill yourselves. That is better for you with your Creator.}

وَكَذَلِكَAnd thusفَعَلُوا،they did,وَقَتَلَand killedالَّذِينَthose whoلَمْnotيَعْبُدُواworshipedالْعِجْلَthe calfالَّذِينَthose whoعَبَدُوهُ،worshiped it,وَهَكَذَاand so١٦٢162

And thus they did, and those who did not worship the calf killed those who worshiped it, and so 162
