تُعَلِّمُونَyou teachالْكِتَابَthe Book
You teach the Book.
وَبِمَاand by whatكُنْتُمْyou wereتَدْرُسُونَstudying
And by what you were studying.
وَلَاand notيَأْمُرَكُمْhe would command youأَنْtoتَتَّخِذُواtakeالْمَلَائِكَةَthe angels
And nor would he command you that you take the angels
وَالنَّبِيِّينَand the prophetsأَرْبَابًاas lords
And the prophets as lords.
أَيَأْمُرُكُمْdoes he command youبِالْكُفْرِwith disbeliefبَعْدَafterإِذْwhenأَنْتُمْyouمُسْلِمُونَare Muslims
Does he command you with disbelief after when you are Muslims?
وَقَالَand saidسُبْحَانَهُHe, glorified is Heوَتَعَالَىand exalted
And He, glorified and exalted is He, said:
اتَّخَذُواthey tookأَحْبَارَهُمْtheir rabbisوَرُهْبَانَهُمْand their monksأَرْبَابًاas lordsمِنْfromدُونِother thanاللَّهِAllah
They took their rabbis and their monks as lords other than Allah
وَالْمَسِيحَand the Messiahابْنَson ofمَرْيَمَMary
And the Messiah, son of Mary.
وَمَاand notأُمِرُواwere they commandedإِلَّاexceptلِيَعْبُدُواthat they worshipإِلَهًاa GodوَاحِدًاOne
And they were not commanded except to worship one God.
لَاnoإِلَهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHimسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himعَمَّاfrom whatيُشْرِكُونَthey associate as partners
There is no god except Him, glory be to Him above what they associate as partners.
فَلَاso notيَجُوزُis it permissibleأَنْthatيُدْعَىbe supplicatedأَحَدٌanyoneمِنْfromالْمَلَائِكَةِthe angels
So it is not permissible that anyone from the angels be supplicated to
وَلَاand notالنَّبِيِّينَthe prophets
Nor the prophets.
فَكَيْفَso howبِالْمَشَايِخِabout the sheikhs
So how about the sheikhs?!
وَلَكِنْbutحَقَّthe right ofالرَّسُولِthe Messenger
But the right of the Messenger
صَلَّىmay send blessingsاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him peaceعَلَيْنَاupon us
May Allah send blessings upon him and grant him peace, upon us is:
أَنْthatنُؤْمِنَwe believeبِهِin him
That we believe in him,
وَنُعَزِّرَهُand honor him
And honor him,
وَنُوَقِّرَهُand revere him
And revere him,
وَنُطِيعَهُand obey him
And obey him,
وَنَتْبَعَهُand follow him
And follow him,
وَيَكُونَand he isأَحَبَّmore belovedإِلَيْنَاto usمِنْthanأَنْفُسِنَاourselves
And that he is more beloved to us than ourselves,
وَأَهْلِينَاand our families
And our families,
وَأَمْوَالِنَاand our wealth
And our wealth,
وَأَوْلَادِنَاand our children
And our children,
وَأَوْلَىand more worthyمِنْthanأَنْفُسِنَاourselves
And more worthy than ourselves.
وُوُلَاةُand the rulers/authoritiesالْأَمْرِof the affairمِنَfromالْمَشَايِخِthe sheikhs
And the people of authority from the sheikhs.
