وَفَضْلَهُمْ
and their virtueوَرُجْحَانَهُمْ
and their superiorityعَلَى
overأَقْرَانِهِمْ
their peersand their virtue and superiority over their peers
وَمُعَاصِرِيهِمْ
and their contemporariesعَلَى
beforeرُؤُوسِ
the heads ofالْأَشْهَادِ،
the witnesses (public),and their contemporaries publicly,
يَأْتُونَ
they produceبِصِنَاعَةٍ
with an artجَدِيدَةٍ،
new,they produce a new art,
وَيَسْتَنْبِطُونَ
and they deriveبُحُورًا
seasجَدِيدَةً
newand they derive new seas
وَيَقُولُونَ
and they sayعِنْدَ
atذَلِكَ:
that:and they say at that moment:
هَلْ
Isهُنَاكَ
thereمَنْ
whoيَقْرِضُ
composesالْقَصِيدَ
poetryمِثْلِي،
like me?Is there anyone who composes poetry like me,
وَيُنْشِئُ
and originatesالْكَلَامَ
speechعَلَى
uponحَذْوِي؟
my pattern?and originates speech upon my pattern?
فَلَوْ
For ifجَرَى
proceededهَؤُلَاءِ
theseعَلَى
onالطَّرِيقَةِ
the wayالْمَطْرُوقَةِ
troddenFor if these people proceeded on the trodden way
فِي
inالشِّعْرِ
poetryوَالنَّثْرِ
and prosein poetry and prose
لَمْ
would notتَظْهَرْ
appearبَرَاعَتُهُمْ
their brillianceإِلَّا
exceptلِلْمُحَقِّقِينَ
to the researchersالْبَارِعِينَ.
proficient.their brilliance would not appear except to proficient researchers.
