The second chapter

In the discussion of the abrogating and the abrogated

Among the difficult places

in the science of exegesis

whose discussions are numerous,

and in which differences are numerous,

is knowing the abrogating and the abrogated,

and among the strongest aspects of this difficulty

is the difference in terminology between the predecessors and successors in this chapter.

The meaning of abrogation according to the predecessors:

And that which becomes clear to us by inductive study of the speech of the companions and the followers

- may God be pleased with them all -

in this subject is that they were using "abrogation"

in its known linguistic meaning which is the removal of something, not in the meaning of the special terminology of the legal theorists.

- So the meaning of "abrogation" with them is the removal of some attributes in a verse by another verse,

whether that was an explanation of the expiration of the working period of a verse from the noble verses.

- Or diverting the speech from the obvious meaning to other than the obvious, or clarification
