And trust: trust is taken from relying on something other than itself; that is, to delegate it to him; so trusting others means delegating to them.

Some scholars defined trust in God as the truthfulness of reliance on God in bringing benefits and repelling harm, trusting in Him, the Most Glorified and Exalted, and doing the right reasons.

Truthfulness in relying on God means that you rely on God sincerely; such that you do not ask except God, nor seek help except from God, nor hope except in God, nor fear except God; you rely on God Almighty in bringing benefits and repelling harm, and this reliance is not sufficient without trust in Him and doing the cause He has permitted; such that you are confident without hesitation while doing the cause He has permitted.

So whoever does not rely on God but relies on his strength; he will be betrayed; and the evidence of that is what happened to the companions with their prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the battle of Hunain, when God the Almighty said: "Indeed, God supported you in many situations and on the day of Hunain when you were amazed by your multitude; as they said: We will never be defeated today by few, so it did not suffice you against you anything, and the earth became narrow upon you with what it was spacious. Then you turned away running. Then God sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger, and upon the believers, and sent down troops that you did not see].

As narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in the proofs (123/5); about Al-Rabi': a man said on the day of Hunain: We will not be defeated, and that distressed the Messenger of God, and it was the defeat," and it was ascribed to the keeper to Yunus bin Bakir in the additions of al-Maghazi.
