بِالنِّعْمَةِwith blessingsمُذْsinceكَانَhe wasفِيinبَطْنِthe bellyأُمِّهِ؟of his mother?
With blessings, since he was in his mother’s belly?
وَمَنAnd whoالَّذِيis it thatأَجْرَىmade flowإِلَيْكَto youالدَّمَthe bloodفِيinعُرُوقِكَyour veinsقَبْلَbeforeأَنْthatتَنْزِلَyou descendإِلَىtoالْأَرْضِthe groundإِلَّاexceptاللَّهَAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّ؟Exalted and Majestic?
And who is it that made flow the blood in your veins before you descend to the ground except Allah, Exalted and Majestic?
مَنْWhoالَّذِيis it thatدَفَعَpushed awayعَنكَfrom youالنُّقَمَthe calamitiesالَّتِيthatانْعَقَدَتْwere tiedأَسْبَابُهَاits causesوَكَثِيرًاAnd many timesمَاthatتُشَاهِدُyou seeبِعَيْنِكَwith your eyesآفَاتٍthe afflictionsوَنُقَمٍand calamitiesتَهْلِكُكَ،that destroy you,فَيَرْفَعُهَاthen He raises itاللَّهُAllahعَنكَ؟from you?
Who is it that pushed away from you the calamities that were tied by their causes, and many times you see with your eyes the afflictions and calamities that destroy you, then Allah raises them from you?
وَهَذَاAnd thisلَاnoشَكٌّdoubtأَنَّهُthat itيَجْلُبُbringsالْمَحَبَّةَloveوَلِهَذَاAnd for thisوَرَدَit has been mentionedفِيinالْأَثَرِthe narrationأَحِبُّواLove
And this undoubtedly brings love, and for this it has been mentioned in the narration: 'Love Allah for the blessings He provides you with.'
وَأَعْتَقِدُAnd I believeلَوْifأَنَّthatأَحَدًاsomeoneأَهْدَىgiftedإِلَيْكَto youقَلَمًا؛a pen;لَأَحْبَبْتَهُ؛you would love it;فَإِذَاSo ifكَانَتْit isكَذَلِكَ؛like that;
And I believe that if someone gifted you a pen; you would love it; so if it is like that;
فَأَنْتَyouانْظُرْlookنِعْمَةَthe blessingاللَّهَAllahعَلَيْكَupon youالنِّعَمَthe blessingsالْعَظِيمَةَthe greatالْكَثِيرَةَthe manyالَّتِيthatلَاnotتَحْصِيَهَا؛you can count;تُحِبُّyou loveاللَّهَ.Allah.
So you look at the great many blessings of Allah upon you that you cannot count; you love Allah.
وَلِهَذَاAnd for thisإِذَاifجَاءَتْit comesالنِّعْمَةُthe blessingوَأَنْتَand youفِيinحَاجَةٍneedشَدِيدَةٍsevereإِلَيْهَا؛to it;تَجِدُyou findقَلْبَكَyour heartيَنْشَرِحُ،is enlightened,وَتُحِبُّand you loveالَّذِيthe one whoأَسْدَاهَاbestowed itإِلَيْكَ ؛to you;بِخِلَافِunlikeالنِّعَمَthe blessingsالدَّائِمَة؛the constant;فَأَنْتَso youتَذْكُرُrememberهَذِهِtheseالنِّعَمَblessingsالَّتِيthatأَعْطَاكَHe gave youاللَّهُAllahوَتَذْكُرُand rememberأيضًاalsoأَنْthatاللَّهَAllahفَضَّلَكَfavored youعَلَىoverكَثِيرٍmanyمِنْofعِبَادِهِHis servantsالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers
And for this, if the blessing comes and you are in severe need of it; you find your heart is enlightened, and you love the one who bestowed it upon you; unlike the constant blessings; so you remember these blessings that Allah gave you and you also remember that Allah favored you over many of His believing servants.
إِنْIfكَانَit wasاللَّهُAllahمَنَّbestowedعَلَيْكَupon youبِالْعِلْمِ؛with knowledge;فَقَدْthen He favoredفَضَّلَكَHe favored youبِالْعِلْمِ،with knowledge,أَوْorبِالْعِبَادَةِ؛with worship;فَقَدْthen He favoredفَضَّلَكَHe favored youبِالْعِبَادَةِ،with worship,أَوْorبِالْمَالِ؛with wealth;فَقَدْthen He favoredفَضَّلَكَHe favored youبِالْمَالِ،with wealth,أَوْorبِالأَهْلِ؛with family;فَقَدْthen He favoredفَضَّلَكَHe favored youبِالأَهْلِ،with family,أَوْorبِالْقُوتِ؛with sustenance;فَقَدْthen He favoredفَضَّلَكَHe favored youبِالْقُوتِ،with sustenance,وَمَاand whatمِنْofنِعْمَةٍblessingإِلَّاexceptوَتَحْتَهَاand beneath itمَاwhatهُوَisدُونَهَا؛beneath it;
If Allah has bestowed upon you knowledge; then He has favored you with knowledge, or with worship; then He has favored you with worship, or with wealth; then He has favored you with wealth, or with family; then He has favored you with family, or with sustenance; then He has favored you with sustenance, and there is not a blessing except that beneath it is something less than it;
فَأَنْتَSo youإِذَاifرَأَيْتَyou seeهَذِهِtheseالنِّعْمَةَblessing;الْعَظِيمَةَ؛the great;شَكَرْتَyou thankedاللَّهَAllahوَأَحْبَبْتَهُ.and you loved Him.
So if you see these great blessings; you thanked Allah and you loved Him.
