قَالَHe said::وَأَنَاand Iلَاdo notأَشْكُdoubtأَنْthatلِيI haveرَبًّاa Lordيَغْفِرُwho forgivesالذَّنْبَsin,,وَيَأْخُذُand takesبِهِwith it
He said: "And I do not doubt that I have a Lord who forgives sin and takes it into account."
وَهَذَاAnd thisالضَّرْبُtypeمِنَofالنَّاسِpeopleقَدْhasتَعَلَّقَattachedبِنُصُوصِto the textsالرَّجَاءِof hope,,وَاتَّكَلَand reliedعَلَيْهَاon them,,وَتَعَلَّقَand clungبِهَاto them(۱)(1)بِكِلْتَاwith bothيَدَيْهِمhands.
And this type of people has attached themselves to the texts of hope, relying on them, and clung to them with both hands.
وَإِذَاAnd ifعُوتِبَhe is reproachedعَلَىforالْخَطَايَاthe sinsوَالْانْهِمَاكِand indulgingفِيهَاin themسَرَدَhe recitesلَكَto youمَاwhatيَحْفَظُهhe memorizesمِنْofسِعَةِthe vastnessرَحْمَةِof mercyاللَّهِGodوَمَغْفِرَتِهِand His forgiveness,,وَنُصُوصِand textsالرَّجَاءِof hope.
And if he is reproached for the sins and indulging in them, he recites to you what he has memorized of the vastness of God’s mercy and forgiveness and the texts of hope.
وَلِلْجَهَالِAnd for the ignorant[٨/ب)[8/b)مِنْofهَذَاthisالضَّرْبِtypeمِنَofالنَّاسِpeopleفِيinهَذَاthisالْبَابِtopicغَرَائِبُodditiesوَعَجَائِبُand wonders,,كَقَوْلِlike the sayingبَعْضِهِمof some of them
And for the ignorant of this type of people in this topic, there are oddities and wonders, like the saying of some of them:
وَكَثُرَAnd increaseمَاwhatاسْتَطَعْتyou canمِنَofالْخَطَايَاthe sinsإِذَاifكَانَit wasالْقُدُومُthe arrivalعَلَىtoكَرِيمٍa generous one(٢)(2)لَهَاto it!
And increase what you can of the sins if the arrival is to a generous one!
وَقَوْلِAnd the sayingالْآخَرِof another::التَّنَزُّهThe abstainingمِنَfromالذُّنُوبِsinsجَهْلٌis ignoranceبِسَعَةِof the vastnessعَفْوِforgivenessاللَّهِof God
And the saying of another: "The abstaining from sins is ignorance of the vastness of God’s forgiveness!"
وَقَوْلِAnd the sayingالْآخَرِof another(۳)(3)::تَرْكُLeavingالذُّنُوبِthe sinsجُرْأَةٌis audacityعَلَىonمَغْفِرَةِthe forgivenessاللَّهِof God,,وَاسْتِصْغَارٌand belittling
And the saying of another: "Leaving sins is audacity in the face of God’s forgiveness, and belittling it."
وَقَالَAnd saidأَبُوAbuمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadابْنِthe son ofحَزْمٍHazm:رَأَيْتُI sawبَعْضَsomeهَـؤُلاَءِof theseيَقُولُsayingفِيinدُعَائِهِhis supplication: اللَّهُمَّO GodإِنِّيI indeedأَعُوذُI seek refugeبِكَwith Youمِنَfromالْعَصْمَةِthe infallibility!
And Abu Muhammad Ibn Hazm said: "I saw some of these saying in their supplication: O God, I indeed seek refuge with You from infallibility!"
وَمِنْAnd fromهَـؤُلاَءِtheseالْمُغَرُّورِينَdeceived onesمَنْofيَتَعَلَّقُwho clingبِمَسْأَلَةِto the issueالْجَبْرِof predestination,وَأَنَّand thatالْعَبْدَthe servantلَاdoes notيَفْعَلُactلَهُfor himالْبَتَّةَat allوَلَاnorاخْتِيَارٌchoice,وَإِنَّمَاbut ratherهُوَhe isمُجْبَرٌforcedعَلَىtoفِعْلِperformالمَعَاصِيthe sins.
And from these deceived ones are those who cling to the issue of predestination, and that the servant does not act at all nor has choice, but rather he is forced to commit sins.
(۱)(1)زZ::«بِهِ»"with it".(۲)(2)س،S,ل:L:«وَأَكْثِر»"and increase."وَقَدْAnd hasأَنْشَدَهُrecited itالمُؤَلِّفُthe authorفِيinعِدَّةٍmultipleالصَّابِرِينَof the patient(٥۰)(50)أَيْضًاalso.وَالْبَيْتُAnd the verseلِأَبِي نُوَاسٍof Abu NuwasفِيinوَفَيَاتِIn the deathsالْأَعْيَانِof notables(۹۷/٢)(97/2)وَفِيهِand in it is::تَكْثُرُincrease.وَفِيAnd inدَوَانِهِhis anthology(۷۳۰)(730)مَعَwithعَجْزٍthe continuationآخَرَanother:تَكْثُرُincrease.مَاwhatاسْتَطَعْتُyou canمِنَofالْخَطَايَاthe sinsفَإِنَّكَfor youقَاصِدٌare going toرَبٍّa Lordغَفُورٍforgiving.(۳)(3)ل،L,خَا:Kha:«وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ»"And said another."
(1) Z: "with it." (2) S, L: "and increase." And the author has recited it in "Multiple of the Patient" (50) also. And the verse is of Abu Nuwas in "In the Deaths of Notables" (97/2) and in it is: "increase." And in his anthology (730) with another continuation: "increase what you can of the sins for you are approaching a forgiving Lord." (3) L, Kha: "And said another."
