مَنْWhoخَافَfearedأَدْلَجَtraveled by night,,وَمَنْand whoeverأَدْلَجَtraveled by nightبَلَغَwill reachالْمُنْزَلَthe home.

Whoever fears, travels by night; and whoever travels by night, will reach the home.

أَلَاIndeedإِنَّthatسِلْعَةَthe merchandiseاللَّهِof Allahغَالِيَةٌis valuable,,أَلَاIndeedإِنَّthatسِلْعَةَthe merchandiseاللَّهِof Allahالْجَنَّةَis Paradise.

Indeed, the merchandise of Allah is valuable; indeed, the merchandise of Allah is Paradise.

وَهُوَAnd HeسُبْحَانَهُExaltedكَمَاasجَعَلَHe madeالرَّجَاءَhopeلِأَهْلِfor the people ofالْأَعْمَالِgood deedsالصَّالِحَةِrighteousness,,فَكَذَلِكَso, He alsoجَعَلَmadeالْخَوْفَfearلِأَهْلِfor the people ofالْأَعْمَالِgood deeds.

And He, Exalted, made hope for the people of good deeds; likewise, He made fear for the people of good deeds.

فَعُلِمَSo it is knownأَنَّthatالرَّجَاءَhopeوَالْخَوْفَand fearالنَّافِعَthat is beneficialهُوَis whatاقْتَرَنَis accompaniedبِهِwith itالْعَمَلُaction.

So it is known that beneficial hope and fear are what is accompanied by action.

قَالَAllah saysاللَّهُthe Almightyتَعَالَىthe Exalted::إِنَّIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoهُمْareمِنْfromخَشْيَةِfear ofرَبِّهِمtheir Lordمُّشْفِقُونَare fearful,,وَالَّذِينَand those whoهُمْareبِآيَاتِin the signs ofرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordيُؤْمِنُونَbelieve,,وَالَّذِينَand those whoهُمْareبِرَبِّهِمwith their Lordلَاdo notيُشْرِكُونَassociate partners,,وَالَّذِينَand those whoيُؤْتُونَgiveمَاwhatآتَوْاthey giveوَقُلُوبُهُمْand their heartsوَجِلَةٌare fearfulأَنَّهُمْthat theyإِلَىtoرَبِّهِمtheir Lordأُو۟لَـٰئِكَthey are quickيُسَارِعُونَto hastenفِيinالْخَيْرَاتِgood deeds,,وَهُمْand theyلَهَاfor itسَابِقُونَare foremost.

Allah, Exalted, has said: 'Indeed, those who are from the fear of their Lord are fearful, and those who believe in the signs of their Lord, and those who do not associate partners with their Lord, and those who give what they give while their hearts are fearful that they will return to their Lord, they are quick to hasten in good deeds, and they are foremost in them.'

يَحْيَىYahyaابْنُson ofإِسْمَاعِيلَIsaacالْوَاسِطِيُّthe WastiعَنِfromوَكِيعٍWaqiعَنِfromالثَّوْرِيِّAl-Thawriبِمَثَلِwith itلَفْظٍthe phraseعَبْدِ اللَّهِAbdullahابْنِson ofالْوَلِيدِAl-Walidالْعَدَنِيِّthe Adniبِزِيَادَةٍwith the additionجُمْلَةٍof the phraseمَنWhoخَافَfearsأَدْلَجَtravels by night.

Yahya ibn Ismail al-Wasti narrated from Waqi from Al-Thawri with a phrase similar to that of Abdullah ibn al-Walid al-Adni with the addition 'Whoever fears, travels by night.'

..........وَرَوَاهُAnd it was reportedأَبُوby AbuجَعْفَرٍJaafarعَبْدِ اللَّهِAbdullahابْنِson ofإِسْمَاعِيلَIsaacالْهَاشِمِيِّthe Hashimiعَنْfromابْنِthe son ofأَبِيAbuالدُّنْيَاthe World--فِيinقَصْرِthe shorteningالْأَمَلِof hopes(١١٦)(116)ــعَنْfromيَحْيَىYahyaابْنِthe son ofإِسْمَاعِيلَIsaacالْوَاسِطِيِّAl-WastiعَنِfromوَكِيعٍWaqiبِهِwith itوَلَمْand he did notيَذْكُرْmentionجُمْلَةًthe phraseمَنْof 'whoخَافَfearsأَدْلَجَtravels by night.

It was narrated by Abu Jaafar Abdullah ibn Ismail al-Hashimi from Ibn Abi al-Dunya in 'The Shortening of Hope' (116) from Yahya ibn Ismail al-Wasti from Waqi with it, but did not mention the phrase 'Whoever fears travels by night.'

وَالصَّحِيحُAnd the correctعَنْaboutوَكِيعٍWaqiمَاwhatرَوَاهُwas narratedالإِمَامُby ImamأَحْمَدُAhmadابْنِthe son ofحَنْبَلٍHanbalوَأَبُوand AbuكُرَيْبٍKuraibمُحَمَّدِMuhammadابْنِthe son ofالْعَلَاءِAl-'Alaوَعَبْدِand Abdullahابْنِthe son ofهَاشِمٍHashimالْعَبْدِيِّthe Abdiوَأَبُوand AbuمَعْشَرٍMa'sharالْحُسَيْنِAl-Hussainابْنِthe son ofمُحَمَّدٍMohammadوَغَيْرِهِمand others,,كُلُّهُمْall of themعَنْfromوَكِيعٍWaqiعَنْfromالثَّوْرِيِّAl-Thawriبِهِwith itبِدُونِwithoutالْجُمْلَةِthe phraseالْمَذْكُورَةِmentioned

And the correct narration from Waqi was from Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Abu Kuraib Muhammad ibn Al-'Ala, Abdullah ibn Hashim al-Abdi, Abu Ma’shar Al-Hussain ibn Muhammad, and others; all of them reported from Waqi from al-Thawri with it without the mentioned phrase.

أَخْرَجَهُIt was narratedأَحْمَدُby Ahmad(٢١٢٤١)(21241)وَالتَّبْرِيand Al-Tabariفِيinتَفْسِيرِهِhis interpretation(۳۲/۳۰)(32/30)وَتَمَامٌand tamamفِيinفَوَائِدِهِits benefitsالرَّوْضِthe gardenالْبَسَّامِthe full

It was narrated by Ahmad (21241) and Al-Tabari in his interpretation (32/30) and in 'The Benefits of Al-Rawd Al-Bassam'.

قُلْتُI said:: يَحْيَىYahyaابْنُthe son ofإِسْحَاقَIsaacالْوَاسِطِيُّAl-Wastiلَمْdid notأَقِفْfindعَلَىonتَوْثِيقِهِhis authenticationوَكَانَand he wasصَدِيقًاa friendلِلْإِمَامِof the imamأَحْمَدَAhmad.

I said: Yahya ibn Ishaq al-Wasti, I did not find his authentication, and he was a friend of Imam Ahmad.

وَعَلَيْهِAnd thereforeفَمَتْنٌthe text(مَنْ('Whoeverخَافَfearsأَدْلَجَtravels by night))لَاdoes notيُثْبِتُestablishإِسْنَادَهُits chain of narrators..

And therefore, the text ('Whoever fears, travels by night') does not establish its chain of narrators.

وَاللَّهُAnd Allahأَعْلَمُis the Most Knowledgeable..

And Allah knows best.

وَلِهَذَاAnd for thisقَالَAbuنُعَيْمٌNuaym:: غَرِيبٌStrangeتَفَرَّدَis uniqueبِهَذَاto himوَكِيعٌWaqiعَنِfromالثَّوْرِيِّAl-Thawriبِهَذَاwith thisاللَّفْظِphrase..

And for this reason, Abu Nuaym said: 'Strange, it is uniquely narrated by Waqi from Al-Thawri with this phrase.'
