فَصْلٌChapterوَمِنْهَاAnd among themأَنْthatالمَعْصِيَةُthe sinسَبَبٌis a causeلِلَّهَوَانِfor the humiliationالْعَبْدِof the servantعَلَىtowardرَبِّهِhis Lordوَسُقُوطِهِand his fallمِنْfromعَيْنِهِHis sight.
And among them is that sin is a cause for the humiliation of the servant before his Lord and his fall from His sight.
قَالَSaidالْحَسَنُAl-HasanالْبَصْرِيُّAl-BasriهَانُواThey were humiliatedعَلَيْهِbefore Himفَعَصَوْهُ،so they disobeyed Him,وَلَوْand ifعَزُّواthey had honoredعَلَيْهِHimلَعَصَمَهُمْHe would have protected them.
Al-Hasan Al-Basri said, "They were humiliated before Him, and so they disobeyed Him; if they had honored Him, He would have protected them."
وَإِذَاAnd ifهَانَthe servant becomes humiliatedالْعَبْدُthe servantعَلَىbeforeاللَّهِAllahلَمْnoيُكْرِمْهُone will honor himأَحَدٌ،anyone,كَمَاasقَالَsaidتَعَالَى :the Most High:﴿"وَمَنAnd whoeverيُهِنِhumiliatesاللَّهُAllahفَمَاthen there is noلَهُfor himمِنْfromمُكْرِمٍhonorer".﴾"
And if the servant becomes humiliated before Allah, no one will honor him, as Allah the Most High said: 'And whoever humiliates Allah, then there is no one to honor him.'"
وَإِنْAnd ifعَظَّمَهُمُpeople glorify themالنَّاسُthe peopleفِيinالظَّاهِرِthe appearanceلِحَاجَتِهِمْfor their needإِلَيْهِمْto themأَوْorخَوْفًاfear(۲)(2)مِنْfromشَرِّهِمْ،their evil,فَهُمْthey areفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsأَحْقَرُthe most insignificantشَيْءٍthingوَأَهْوَنُand the most easy.
And if people glorify them in appearance for their need of them or out of fear of their evil, they are in their hearts the most insignificant thing and the most easy.
وَمِنْهَاAnd among themأَنْthatالْعَبْدَthe servantلَاdoes notيَزَالَceaseيَرْتَكِبُto commit(۳)(3)الذَّنْبَ،the sin,حَتَّىuntilيَهُونَit becomes easyعَلَيْهِ،for him,وَيَصْغُرَand shrinksفِيinقَلْبِهِ.تhis heart. And among them is that the servant does not cease to commit sin until it becomes easy for him and shrinks in his heart. That is a sign of destruction, for whenever the sin shrinks in the sight of the servant, it becomes great before Allah.

And it has been mentioned by Al-Bukhari in his Sahih from Ibn Mas’ud who said: 'Indeed, the believer sees his sins as if they were the root of a mountain he fears will fall on him. And the wicked sees his sins as a fly that lands on his nose; he says with it like this, and it flies away.
